BTW an asymptomatic covid outbreak seems to have taken place inside a Disney cruise ship and so far no one is talking about the potentially massive lawsuits that will follow.

I understand that everybody can’t be saved and that the economic and social price are massive and almost incomprehensible but when you fall into the vulnerable category it colours your perspective.......... I’m still a Mum and my husband is still a Dad and a brother. We still lead active lives. We pay taxes, council tax, provide public service, play in a brass band and generally don’t feel ready to give up life without a fight. Please don’t give up on us- if the roles were reversed the aged wouldn’t give up on you! I know that’s very different but even vaguely suggesting that the vulnerable should be left to take their chances is horrific for someone in that category!!
...ahhh. I was wondering where you were from when you reacted to my reference to “the troubles”...

Now I don’t have to ask. Cheers. 🇬🇧

I've avoided posting about this because the other articles I've read link back to just one report here -

Has there been any other confirmation?

This is the same ship right?

It left New Orleans before the cruise lockdown and returned to San Diego early. Doesn’t seem overly negligent.

That's what the author of the linked article is saying. However, I've not seen anyone else confirming it with new reporting not going back to the same article.

The Worldometer count is about to tick over to another day, but it's showing 9,000 fewer new cases today than yesterday. Total deaths were up by 1,200 though (edit: but that is fewer new deaths than yesterday). Most of the states with the most overall cases saw fewer new cases too, including NY, NJ, and FL. It looks to be the first time there have been fewer new cases from one day to the next since March 21.

That could mean things are STARTING to work...could.

People let up now and it blows any progress apart.

Very good need. Thank you for sharing.

Absolutely not.

Now, it *may* being flattening, but you can *absolutely not* say it is with just one day's total being less than the previous.

Just look at the chart, there were other days in which the number went down. Imagine if you proclaimed on that day, "The curve is flattening!!" You'd be absolutely wrong.

You can hope this is a sign of a flattening... but it is most likely not. The latest IHME projection still has Florida short over 800 ICU beds when it crests at the beginning of May.

Interpret the data as you wish. There was a 37% drop in new cases from yesterday to today.

As far as the IHME model. Besides the fact that it has so far overestimated (by a lot) the hospital bed demand it isn't accounting for hospitals expanding ICU capacity by transforming other facilities (such as operating recovery rooms) into ICU beds to prepare for a surge.

It's not "people going on a hike." It's non-family members socializing together and ignoring the 6ft distancing while doing so that I was referencing.

I agree the scouts shouldn’t have been on a hike. But that’s a separate problem. People will never 100% follow rules.

My point is those scouts hiking are not going to make this last longer... in general we’ve closed down the country, that will make a difference.
