Interesting downtick in the 11:00am Florida update. The daily infection rate is way down. 110 at 11 vs 6 - 700 in the days before. Why?

1. Maybe it is Sunday and few reports were processed so tomorrow will be more?
2. Maybe the reduced testing due to lack of test kits?
3. Maybe we see a huge increase at the 6pm update for the day?
4 Maybe it is working?
5. None of the above or all of the above and it is a fluke?

Totally off topic— since my husband is a cast member we have always wanted to do a Disney Cruise but we don’t know how to utilize the discount or the cheapest time to book. Assuming he has a job at the end of all of this we’d love to book one eventually. Any advice? We know the discount is good but we’ve heard you have to pay upfront and can only be booked a few weeks out?

Your husband needs to check the DCL Discounts tab on the HUB. There you will see a running tab of what cruises are available for a Cast dicount, with info re: total cost, cost per day, and taxes/tips. Cruises availability varies from 2 weeks to several months in advance.

You can find available cruises on the HUB. Some are further out than others date wise. A plus or drawback depending on your preferences is that you’ll get the second dinner seating and be seated at a larger table with other cast members. You can always request a separate table or dinner seating if it’s available. The HUB should walk you through required payments and such. It’s possible that openings will open up once they’re in service again with some travelers too scared to travel yet. When booking you couldn’t pick your room number but you can pick your category of what’s available. Good luck. I’ve been on eight Disney cruises. They are so much fun. We’re hoping to take another either August or September. Castaway Cay is very relaxing and beautiful.

I saw the cases go down the other day and then a major spike for the second update. But I’m hopeful too 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I wonder if summer has anything to do with that. Rescheduling is going to be tricky for my parents for a few reasons-
1. They hate Orlando in the summer, when they do vacation in Florida during summer it’s beach vacay only.
2. Their grandkids have other vacations already planned with their own parents. I have one planned in late June (though up in the air now). My sister has one planned in July, no way they will cancel that one.
3. Our kids start sports seasons again in August.. after missing so much of spring soccer, we don’t really want them to miss any of the fall season.

Also, the spring sports are so up in the air right now... no one knows if seasons will be extended, which could put them to late June.

So they have to find weeks that work for everyone. I wonder if many other families are thinking the same about their kids or just not a fan of Disney during the summer months.
Those things may factor in too. My personal opinion is that most people will stick closer to home this summer. The thinking is there is always next year and maybe by then a vaccine is available or the virus will just go away. For people with trips already planned in July or August they may wait it out and see what happens. I don’t see a lot of people booking something new for the summer months with all the uncertainty. This also completely ignores the millions who have much less job security or who potentially lost some wages during this down time.

This ^^^^ And I'll be honest, unless I'm really sick I will not go to get tested, assume I have it, and quarantine myself - more than the shelter in place and only go out when absolutely necessary - that I'm already doing. I'm sure others feel the same, so the true numbers of those infected will always be an educated guess.

In NYC people have to wait in lines, outside, to get tested - no drive through. Again, not going to happen unless I were seriously ill.
This is what my family agreed on. Unless one of us is on the verge of death, we're staying in and away from everyone. I get wanting to be tested but it isn't worth it. Just ride it out* and if you become extremely ill then go get medical attention.

*unless you have some immune system issue then I'm not sure what to do there.

I don't know. I'm not so sure shelter in place is doing anything other than making the deaths a garden hose filling a pool vs. a fire hose where they both get to the same result just one takes longer.

Looking at Italy, they have been on national lockdown for almost 3 weeks and although the growth rate of cases has slowed, there is no real sign that they are getting to the other side of the curve. South Korea took 2 weeks to go through the entire "hump" in the curve.

That's why I was curious about the timeline. If the idea that many (most?) people will get it eventually, less whatever happens with with a vaccine, then it makes more sense. Otherwise, it's a massive increase over what we're seeing so far in the US. And, as someone who's going to wind up spending at least two months at home, it's rather disconcerting.

The "Staycation" was born after 9/11 and furthered after the housing crisis in '08. I agree with you.
Even trips to a more local beach or local national or state parks seems like much lower risk and is often much cheaper and much easier to cancel or change on the fly. I know I am going to need some kind of vacation when the dust settles on all this. I have a WDW trip planned for August, DVC room booked, flights and park tickets purchased. I am in wait and see mode right now. Not going to cancel but I want to see how this plays out. I definitely would not be booking a new trip if this one wasn’t already planned.

Agree with all of that. I think so much of it will be dependent on ones situation and/or fears. From what I’m hearing from friends and fam, everyone is still doing their summer vacations as planned. Some are still holding out hope for their spring break vacations as well. (most of my circle has kids in catholic schools so our spring break is really an Easter break which puts us later than most public schools).

However, I’m rethinking my June trip for 2 reasons, I don’t think it’s a good time to take off from work given everything that’s going on right now. And also, I’m taking a huge hit income wise, if it bounces back right away then it’s fine, but I have no way to know what the other side of this thing will look like.. and I don’t know if a several thousand dollar vacation is the best thing to do even if being present at work wasn’t a factor. My stay itself is already paid for, and I don’t know if I will get a refund if cancel, but there’s still a lot I will spend on top of that.. so who knows. There’s a lot of factors right now that are just unknown.

Not likely to head to wdw this summer, but man I do hope my family can go to the outer banks with my parents and brother’s family. That’s planned for august right now. :(

The former commissioner to the FDA (2017-2019) is suggestion this as a roadmap to reopen.

Here is a direct link to the report -

Seems like a reasonable plan. Many projections show a national peak by mid to late April so things could go down after that and we could start opening things up in May. Florida seems a little behind so it may be a little longer for WDW. Probably lines up with a June 1 opening.

You'd like to think so. But WW2 should have been a lesson for humanity. Yet, every country has continued to wage war (albeit on a smaller scale). And now you got the crackpot over in NK firing missiles during all of this.
The world has quite a few crackpots. I wonder if even Armageddon would change their mentality (especially since they’d be in a bunker)

Are the staying in a rental house? If so, I can’t imagine the issue with it. Unless some just don’t want to be around anyone not in their household.
