You’ve misunderstood his meaning. The quotation in question: “And so we are revising our quotes, our central best estimate of the reproduction… something more, a little bit above of the order of three or a little bit above rather than about 2.5.

In other words, he now thinks the infection rate may be slightly above 3, whereas previously he thought it was closer to 2.5.

This does not represent a major shift in his thinking or modelling. See the following from back in January:

“Ferguson, whose team have been modelling the disease for the World Health Organization, said they estimated the virus had a reproductive rate of 2.5-3, meaning that each person infected would potentially transmit it to up to three others.”

Thank you! I thought the phrasing was odd, but I figured it was just a British thing. 😄

I'd like to give a shout out to @marni1971 right now. I've been a member on this site (and MouseBits, where I would eagerly wait for new uploads of Martin's Ultimate Tributes) for over a decade and have enjoyed Martin's videos for many years.

We didn't have a trip planned when all of this happened, but man are we down in the dumps. The past few days, my husband and I have been watching a bunch of Martin's videos to cheer us up.

Thank you, Martin -- I know I'm far from the only one in this community (and the greater Disney Fan Community) to appreciate your work, but now more than ever, they are providing a little escapism and happiness when it is so dearly needed ❤
And I thank you. You're very welcome ☺️

Well its going to be a while, Shades of Green canceled all reservations out to the 15th of May today.

Yup, thats where the CDCs 8 week social distancing guidelines took us basically. Not really a surprise. Its just a question of what Disney will announce and how close to that mid-May date they get to actually opening.

Its also in line with the Military travel restrictions until around May 11th.

the lung effects of this are devastating..i have copd..and am really worried

Just remember that it hits people differently. While I don't have COPD, I do suffer from asthma but if didn't cause me any trouble breathing. The headaches and fever have been the worst parts of it, even though the coughing has been on and off from the beginning I never experienced the shortness of breath some do. So don't worry yourself too much, because you may not get it in the worst way, but if you spend too much time worrying about it that isn't going to be good for your health either. If I had just listened to the bad stories coming out about this I would have been writing my last will and saying goodbye to everyone when it hit me because the media has spent an inordinate amount of time reporting the people that died from it. But remember most people don't die from it.

To be fair though, going from 2.5 to 3.0 is a 20% increase.

Has anyone officially had their reservations canceled? My mom has not heard anything from Disney regarding their April trip.

I’m wondering if it’s just a flat out cancellation, or if they will work with guests to keep all of their same FPs, and dining (also extras- they paid for EMM & a desert party) for when it opens, within a month.
I guess the biggest problem could be resort availability for those dates.

@wdwmagic Do you have any knowledge or heard anything about this? Meaning people who had reservations cancelled in March due to closure.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Wednesday was our FP+ day for our trip starting Memorial Day weekend. It felt a bit weird to be making FP's for a closed park, but we'll hope for the best.

disney hasn't made any announcements about April yet. Should be coming any day now though. They can reschedule but they will lose their FP & dining reservations.

Is this for certain? I would think Disney may try to work with people, I really have no idea though. I haven’t seen anyone on this site who had vacation scheduled and cancelled by Disney when they announced closures. I do personally know someone who’s trip was cut short when it happened, but that was only by one day and they were already there.

That’s the thing I’m so curious about, if (and it’s looking quite likely) they open in May, then everyone would have already made their selections for that time.

"Union leaders are asking Disney World to keep paying its workers and providing insurance through April 30 as employees aren’t being told when they can go back to work next month."

“As March 31 gets closer and closer, however, we have no decision from Disney,” wrote Matt Hollis, who is the president of the Service Trades Council Union, a group of locals that represented 42,000 Disney employees, in a letter sent to Disney leaders on Friday. “Cast members are in the dark, worried how they will pay for their rents or mortgages and feed their children.”

Besides the anxiety it’s causing the CMs, the silence doesn’t do anything for Disney’s image. They need to make an announcement before any more delay.

Previously, all Disney auditions had been canceled or postponed.

In addition to the new not-canceled auditions for Awesome Mix Live (mentioned above), DL Paris now has auditions back happening...
