You know what's funny?
I mean what the heck are they expecting people to do? Get laid off/furloughed and then try to compete with the 15,000 others in the same position in your city for the 52 publix jobs available

Apparently, they want to ensure unemployment benefits are capped at 100% of your current income. So, not give more through this bill than what you were making. They believe it is just a drafting error...

Not the biggest fan of Apple as a company (he says while typing this on his Mac*) but it's nice to see their leader step up and for them to not only offer platitudes (like so many other companies are doing) but to do something completely out of their wheelhouse that costs them, in support of the greater good. Would be nice to see some of the other most profitable companies in the country world follow this lead instead of just focusing on how to preserve their bottom line, right now.

but honestly with the new reports of kiddos and young adults being affected badly by covid-19 and we have an 8 year old and an infant... I don’t know if I want him working in a grocery store 😬😬

Sorry to hear about your husband. :(

I think the bill is trying to prevent giving people too much money, who don’t earn that amount anyway.. something like that could very well have such people staying on unemployment too long.

I had to quote your section above.. what new reports are you talking about?

For a married couple, it is up to $150,000 per year for the full amount. I would venture to say that the households of most posters here are making $150,000 per year or less. Additionally, a smaller version of the payment is available families as high as $199,000 per year.

So, yes, I would venture to say that most posters on this board will receive a payment. And, also, I think you way underestimate the number of families making less than $75,000 who go to Disney.

Pretty much wipe out the entire population of Disney fans from the NE Metroplex (DC to Boston) except those fresh out of the house...

"After a tumultuous Tuesday of conflicting calls for stay-at-home orders, curfews, and other attempts at slowing the spread of the coronavirus, Hillsborough County officials found compromise Wednesday and asked attorney’s to draft a “safer-at-home” directive and nightly curfew, restricting residents to their homes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Friday."

"Apart from the mandatory curfew, all Hillsborough residents will be asked to stay in their homes 24-hours a day, seven days a week, County Administrator Mike Merrill said. Still, there are exceptions to help maintain “quality of life” and access to essential services, like grocery stores, banks and pharmacies."

Just heard that the number of people who actually have the Coronavirus could be orders of magnitude more than what is confirmed. This means that the death rate could be lower than reported. No one knows how many people actually have it. But we do know that it’s more than what’s confirmed. Furthermore, it is not mutating rapidly.

As in not even going out for exercise??

I’d have to search for a link, but the original republican proposal was not a blanket sum, but based on income at all levels, as in lower income too.

At the end of the day, Andrew is correct in that they wanted to get this out as quickly as possible with the least amount of paperwork (requirements) to hold it up.

I apologize for my disgust and cynicism over the news today. I guess that happens when you wake up and have to start calling people letting them know that they either no longer have a job, or are furloughed for nearly a month, and may not have a job at all after that. Trying to tell them what resources are available, based on an overview email from HR.. and then seeing that most of these people won’t even see this “government bonus”.
The whole thing just sucks.
This is the worst part of the whole situation. Having to tell people you care about and worked side-by-side with for years that there may not be a job for them when this is over.

So according to an Oxford study, HALF of the UK might already have the Coronavirus! That’s insanely GOOD news because it would mean that only 1/1000 require hospitalization. That means that we could see these lockdowns reverses sooner rather than later. It means the death rate is less than the flu. They still have to do more testing to confirm this but it is a glimmer of hope.

It's in the story....

Merrill’s order also permits residents to “enjoy the outdoors as long as physical distancing is observed along with other recommended sanitary requirements.”

I can’t click. I went by what you posted and didn’t see it.

That’s not “stay in your home 24 hours per day”

I didn't write the story. Do you know of any orders in the US where you can't go out for exercise, if you follow social distancing regulations?

No, that’s why the wording is so strange. Instead of shock value, I wish they would just clearly paint a picture containing information. Write about the order, clearly point out the ‘quality of life’ part,. And that it’s not really stay in home for 24/7.

This may change, depending on what the actual bill says, but this is what the NYT is currently reporting -

If someone doesn’t have their bank account info on file with the IRS (70 million people do), they may need to wait up to four months to receive a $1,200 check.

What is clear though is children can be carriers and put others at risk.

Not children, but we just had an 18 year old and a 21 year old die over here from the virus. The 21 year old had no underlying medical issues.
Indeed. Sadly, we have a 3 yo little girl tested positive here. No precaution should be considered excessive at this point.

I'm wondering what will be included in the extension announcement. Will it simply say closed until x/xx, or will it be detailed as to what parks/resorts/restaurants will open when and at what capacity.
