News story like this every day.

“Anti vaxer dies 1 week after anti vax rally”

Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t seem to move the needle at all.

This is just my opinion but I think the dumbest thing we did as a country so far was the Stimmy checks.

Those should have been flat out bribes to get people vaccinated. I would be willing to bet we would be at 95%+ vax rates if you got $2k after your second shot.

One thing greater than stupidity? Greed.

I can tell you, financial / weird incentives haven't seemed to work in Canada.

Do you know what raise the vaccine uptake rate? Vaccine passports and restrictions on non-essential activities for the unvaccinated.

Just admit that the vaccines did well at preventing infection from the early variants, and that was a key component of their abilities, and this was touted by experts around the world…and then we can move on.
Yes, I well remember the days when getting vaccinated was touted as being "fully protected". I called it horse-manure then and it's horse-manure now. "Just get the shot, and this is all over with - you can rip off your mask!" touted in fancy little info graphics from the White House/CDC.

Clearly, things changed because of Omicron - but the rewriting of history that these things never were said is just gaslighting.

The medical field is an ever changing place . BTW, the talking point of getting the vaccine shot will not change.

Do you mean the financial penalty to people who chose to remain unvaccinated? As that is seeming to work, this sort of fits in the bracket I was mentioning. Penalties work.

But offering people money seemingly does not, at least from what I have seen.
I am all for penalties. Recently the NJ Governor advised he will shortly sign an executive order next week that NJ health care workers need all to get the vaccine. The option of not getting it is no longer an option.

You know what's funny?

The federal mandate doesn’t already cover these workers? Or I guess the scope is more expansive?

i think he issued a mandate requiring healthcare workers to get booster shots. i’ll have to look it up.

I literally just said in the post you quoted that clearly, things changed with Omicron.

I also don't think that anyone here has said anything about this changing the fact that the best idea is obviously for everyone to be getting vaccinated.

What is frankly scary to some of us is that we can't discuss things honestly because, as you have here - it gets twisted into some anti-vaxx nonsense to acknowledge the documented reality of how this has all unfolded. It's like we are some cultists who must ascribe to the current talking points and not acknowledge anything else that may be perceived to be inconvenient to the current narrative. It's been going on since this began.

To be honest, it's the gaslighting that is giving ammunition to the anti-vaxxers more than anything else. When you deny reality to someone, even with the best of intentions, they are just going to dig their heels in even more. And less likely to believe in anything else you say.

Unfortunately, his order is somewhat toothless because he provided for an exemption for "deeply held religious beliefs." I can tell you right now that people who haven't set foot inside a church in years even before the pandemic will suddenly claim to be devoutly religious. I already know people who used that excuse to get their kids out of school vaccine mandates - and one of them is in nursing school. He should have left legitimate medical exemptions as the only accepted excuse.

True, boosters are a part of his order. Currently, workers who refuse to get vaccinated have the option to get tested weekly. This order removes the testing option, but left religious exemptions in place.

Perhaps the report could include the full email that he sent. The use of ellipsis in the first quote clearly shows that they didn't include the entire text.

Until we see the full text of the email, we can't opine on whether or not what he said violated state law.

It should be noted that he wasn't fired. They placed him on administrative leave while investigating.

If all the email did was express frustration and they don't reinstate him then that would be wrong. If there is more to the email or he wrote or said something else which violated the law then termination would be justified.

I can't give an opinion either way due to lack of information but it doesn't stop others from immediately going on the anti-Florida leadership attack.
From the Orlando Sentinel:

In the email to staff, Pino expressed frustration with the staff’s low vaccination rate amid an infection surge blamed on the omicron variant.

His email bore a subject line of “Concerned for us and our families!” He wrote:
“I have a hard time understanding how can we be in public health and not practice it! The reasons can be many, but so many of us?

“In order to have a better picture on how this current wave could affect us and the people we served, I ask our analyst to run vaccination data for our employee; shocker! The total number of active staff for FDOH Orange is 568. It appears that 77 employees (excluding contractors and interns) have received their booster dose of vaccine (SUPER LOW), and 219 employees have a complete vaccine series (not even 50%). 34 have only one dose of vaccine (missing second dose and booster).

“With those numbers we should expect many of us to get sick and be a vector between the workplace and our families, and to impact the clients we serve. To be precise, yesterday we have to cancel all prenatal appointments in a clinic because the lack of providers. I am sorry, but at this point, in the absence of reasonable and real reasons, it is irresponsible not to be vaccinated. We have been at this for two years, we were the first to give vaccines to the masses, we have done more than 300,000 (OCDOH) and we are not even at 50%, pathetic.”

State authorities were unclear whether Pino was placed on leave for urging employees to get vaccinated or compiling their vaccination status.

The anti vax nonsense as you described has plagued our health care system for one thing if some had not noticed. Hear them out, but as companies and elected officials are doing so, punish them with various penalties for their foolishness and lives lost.

His executive order that he is expected to sign next Wednesday roll up the sleeve , get the Fauci Ouchie, no more testing for unvax workers if still want to be employed

Had the employees self reported, no problem.

If he went into individual health data, big problem
