You know what's funny?
Anyone experience this? I’m fully vaccinated, not boosted. Son came down with a runny nose and cough just before Christmas and was fine after 2-3 days, but we cancelled Christmas activities with family just to be safe.

Day after Christmas I started feeling blah. Aches, sore throat, runny nose and stuffiness. Wife shortly followed with the same symptoms. Neither of us got fevers. We each tested negative twice waiting 48 hours between tests. Started feeling better and the only thing that remained was the occasional nasal congestion. Haven’t really slept well the last week and a half as a result.

Well last night I started to feel blah again. Really tired, body aches, no appetite. Took ANOTHER rapid test. Still negative. Could this be a case of consistent false positives+long mild covid? We live in South FL btw, so we’re sure in the thick of it right now. If this isn’t covid, it’s one hell of a cold.
It could be any number of infections or viruses I imagine. Other things are still around. I have had a few things over the last few months but it was never Covid.

For sure. It’s weird and annoying because I don’t think I’ve ever had a cold/virus/flu last this long. And then ultimately reappear. Guess it’s possible I picked up an additional virus that isn’t covid since my immune system would still be weak and in recovery mode.

Likely hit with 2 different things. Happens more often when immune systems are fighting than you think. Flu and other colds are high here too. Or so I thought I read

Similar experience but eventually we all tested positive. Are you using the same brand every time? We switched brands and got positives immédiates. The BinaxNOW only picked up on of the six in our house. If all of you are negative the odds are it isn’t Covid. Yes there are false negatives but with multiple people and different test brands it’s unlikely. Only a pcr test will give you a final word. Oh and we found the higher and longer you swab the better

That's what's happening in our home right now. We thought we had covid, got tested twice, all negative. Finally went to the doctor, it's a cold. Unfortunately it happened during the holidays, so for my wife it hit her extremely hard and became bronchitis: she's pregnant, and couldn't be seen by her OB until yesterday to find out what she could take. Now she's on a full regiment of approved meds and waiting for an appointment with an ENT Doctor.

We're in South FL as well (Coral Gables) - there's a really nasty cold going around. My wife and I both got it.

hall of fame game missed the point GIF

No, I didn't miss the point. Omicron is much more infectious, it's infecting more people in all age groups. Kids end up in the hospital for various reasons all the time. What we need to know is are kids ending up in the hospital at a higher rate with Omicron then other variants. The article does not address this.

LOVED SPG. They had the best hotel options, point system, service and perks. In my opinion that has all gone down hill since Marriott took over. I switched to the next best option and that was Hilton.

We were extremely loyal to Swan and Dolphin when we went for our Disney trips. Now it’s mostly Waldorf or Signia BC.
Being a longer Hilton peep myself ( 3 years to go before lifetime diamond status and sitting on over 800k points). Stayed at a Hampton Inn last night and took a look at the "free breakfast" this morning and asked myself "what in the he'll is that??". It was some type of ham/cheese/bagel type thing. Not the typical nerf of letters.

Contemplating a switch to Marriott.

Whether your suggested strategy is a good idea or not, it is pretty obvious the strategy we have in place right now isn't working. Really, as I have alluded to in the past, I don't really know what the goal is right now.
Join the club.
Save lives?
Limit hospitalizations?
End the pandemic?
Keep kids in school?
Just test as much as possible during each wave?
Focus on vaccinations?
Yes
All of these things cannot be goals or part of a cohesive strategy at the same time. Some, yes. All, no.
Well, you might want to brace yourself…

All kidding aside probably a result of the varying levels of government, various health organizations, etc. I think no matter what the strategy will be/is variable if got no other reason than so many entities/organizations involved.

Then add to the mix that people aren’t homogeneous in well, anything… and here we are.

(Disclaimer: the above is not to be construed as political, simply pointing out there are a lot of variables in this.)

It's good that they're breaking these numbers down for people to see. Still, over 6,600 people hospitalized because of COVID-19 is a lot of people. Outside of NYC, you're looking at over 60% of the hospitalizations being due to COVID-19 rather than "just happened to have it." It doesn't really build the case that some people try to make that "it's mostly incidental admissions."

Ugh why the pandemic is not ending yet, this Spring, Summer and Fall/Winter 2022 will be even longer as more mutating as more deadly as the pandemic will be long for years. I hope many people will getting vaccinated as boosters as by Fall 2022 I won't get another booster shot if we will may get another winter surge by Christmas 2022.

For the entire State of NY, 57% of those hospitalized with COVID are there for COVID. When you cut 43% off of the total "COVID patients" it doesn't really build the case that the hospitals are being overwhelmed BECAUSE of COVID right now.

False negatives with symptoms and correct testing technique are extremely rare, so likely not COVID.

Yes

Well here goes our plans but I wonder the pandemic will be ending this year or next year. New normal is not as possible.
We want to go back to normal as they can do something with COVID to be under control this year.
