The University of Florida updated their Omicron predictions for Florida today see: https://epi.ufl.edu/covid-19-resour...19-omicron-wave-projections-updated-0105.html

Effectively they expect it to peak by mid January and bottom out by the end of this month, there are already signs the case increase may be starting to slow or transmission has already peaked in Florida. Close to 80%+ of the people in Florida will catch it according to them. Deaths are projected to be 1/3 less than Delta even with way more cases. Part of the reason is Florida had its Delta wave earlier this year, where the midwest and Northeast were going through it when Omicron was introduced. So Deaths may be more in the Northeast/Midwest because of that.

Good news is that by mid to late February projections have cases going below they were at the end of November in Florida. The projections have been fairly accurate (until Omicron hit), you can see the others. Bad news, before then it'll spike hard and be a pain in January for all types of medical care facilities.

Florida was 9th out of 50th in testing in the US this past week too. Even with all the lines, etc. ICU use has decoupled from cases in Florida as well.

I can't see on the reports where you stated 80% of FL population will catch it?

I recall flying in summer 2020 on a plane one time with approx only 30 passengers on a 737 and all could spread out and lie across our seats if we wanted to. Upon entering I could smell the strong disinfectant in the air the cleaning crew used prior to us boarding. Several times the flight crew advised us upon the deep cleaning the planes are going through. Fast forward to 2021, the few times I flew there was no noticeable scent of disinfectant spray and no more talk from flight crew of deep cleaning the planes to combat covid. I still used my antiseptic handiwipes and wiped the entire seat, arm rest, tray table etc just as a habit.

Similar experience here. We were at the back of the plane, so they had started cleaning the front by the time they got off - I didn't see any "deep cleaning". Also, 2020 they handed every passenger a sanitary wipe (and water/pretzels) getting on the plane. This time we had to ask for wipes and we're back to flight attendants traipsing down the aisles and reaching over everyone.

Having just returned from the US, our domestic flights between Atlanta and Myrtle Beach still had the announcement regarding deep cleaning at the gate and we were given wipes as we boarded - this was flying with Delta. So it's still happening on some routes.

I am happy that the planes are being cleaned between flights, but does that really help in any meaningful way against Omicron being it is an airborne transmitted virus as opposed to being primarily transmitted via droplets on a surface you touch?

Any supposed "deep cleaning" only happens overnight anymore. I've found it somewhat amusing that when it is time to board on American, the app tells me that my plane is thoroughly sanitized and ready for boarding. There have been several times in the past few months that, even on the first flight of the day, I open the tray table and find crumbs. Definitely doesn't give a high degree of confidence in the "deep cleaning" that they are supposedly doing.

Probably minimal, the CDC changed their recommendations nearly a year ago to say that there is no significant risk of Covid from surfaces.

The Miami Herald reported today that for the first time since December 10 that the 7 day average of cases decreased. Based on numbers released today Florida is averaging 56,611 cases a day or 263.7.
It should be pointed out that of December 10 the average number of cases was only 1,700 or 7.9 cases per 100k. Just think about that. Less than a month ago Florida was averaging 7.9 cases per 100k and today it is 263.7 or almost 30 times more cases a day. Hopefully, the decrease will happen as fast as the increase.

Is funny how we have not heard about the classification of "super spreader event", either predictive or post event, in many months.
Maybe I have missed it.

Oh, we can go round and round about this.

We can ignore the medical advice. We can look past the emergency rooms... and the people who sweat and suffer there. We can find comfort in the fact that everyone dies, especially old people. We don't have to see 800,000 dead Americans or 5,000,000 people worldwide as a possible concern.

As a citizen, you get to choose whether you are willing to be cautious for the sake of people you don't know... or you'd just as soon focus on your rights to have fun and go unmasked and unvaxxed. If your fun and those particular rights are greater concerns to you than the harm you might inflict on others, well, this is Florida, and you'll have people cheering you on as you do it.

Reason can't stop you. Your conscience can't stop you. So awaaayyy you go.

I hope the pandemic will be ending by mid summer 2022.

Do you give permission to have fun unmasked but vaxxed? Asking for a friend.

Fun? Like the recent crazy charter flight fun like unmasked, drinking, vaping etc during the flight from Canada to Mexico where 30 of them are quarantined in MEX because testing positive? BTW, the whole group is stuck there. Canada and the charter company won't fly them back home. Better keep charging on that credit card for unexpected expenses.

I have no choice on mine. Pfizer all 3. 1st and 3rd were pretty identical. None were really bad. My spouse's doctor gives like for like and so all 3 were Moderna. He had zero issues with any - mild arm pain with them. I'll let you know how my 14yo does after tomorrow with dose 3 Pfizer. I posted somewhere but majority in studies has less for 3rd than 2nd. Those who mix and match risk more on 3rd shot. Might have been the mask thread if not here.

Edit: Here's the article https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsa...f-the-booster-knocks-me-out-what-if-it-doesnt
"Indeed, side effects of the boosters are mimicking those of the initial doses...

People who mix and match brands, however, may be more likely to be down for the count."

I am too but no breath holding here lol
This definitely, J&J first shot so booster wasn't the same brand. Felt worse than the J&J. Maybe has to do with the amount of antibodies activated the first time and apparently has as good of memory as me lol
