Fun? Like the recent crazy charter flight fun like unmasked, drinking, vaping etc during the flight from Canada to Mexico where 30 of them are quarantined in MEX because testing positive? BTW, the whole group is stuck there. Canada and the charter company won't fly them back home. Better keep charging on that credit card for unexpected expenses.
Did they test positive upon arrival in Mexico? If so, they didn't get infected on the flight so the question is moot.

It was another bad day for the Covid numbers. The US is now up to 184 cases per 100k. RI is now the state with the worst number at 391. NY is second with 360 and NJ is third with 343. Florida, as the Miami Herald reported is at 264. Finally NYC is at 472 and Essex County NJ is at 453. Further to show how bad it is in NJ, every one of the 21 counties has over 200 cases per 100k plus 16 of them are in the top 100 counties in the US.

All of these places where the Omicron wave started in mid December should peak within the next week. A month from now these stats should be much lower.

You apparently haven't traveled to Mexico
Proof of vaccination upon arrival - No
Covid test upon arrival - No
I haven't traveled to Mexico since around 10 years ago when my wife and I had our crappy sandals stolen off the beach in Cancun when we took a 10 minute walk. After that, we made the decision never to return.

If somebody was that desperate to steal those I would have bought them sandals if they had asked but to have them stolen like that made for an unpleasant vacation.

It could happen at any beach in the USA. I went to wade in the blue waters in Miami South Beach for just a few minutes and when I returned my prescription glasses were stolen which were underneath my beach blanket. Luckily there was a eyeglass store open on a Sunday near Ocean Drive and they made me contacts. I still love going to South Beach, BTW.

This is the interesting thing based on the numbers. RI has a vaccination rate of 77%. The state with the lowest vaccination rate is Idaho at 46. What is unbelievable is Idaho has the lowest Covid19 7 day average of 51 cases per 100k but RI has 391. Something is wrong here and no one has an answer. We are all in the dark. I expected the vaccine to work and while it has reduced deaths and hospitalizations it has not solved the problem and we continue to get Covid spread and more deaths.

Population Density. RI is over 1000 people per sq mi. Idaho is just under 20. Absolutely not unbelievable at all or unexplainable

If it were just population density then Alaska and many other states would be much lower. Another interesting fact is Florida is currently averaging 0.09 deaths per 100k while the country is averaging 0.42. That appears to indicate Florida is doing a much better job treating people. In any case I think we should study what Idaho is doing to keep cases down and what Florida is doing on treatments because Florida has an older population than the country average and a death rate of one fourth in US average.

Give it time. Most of the inter mountain west outside of CO is just ramping up our omicron wave after a late delta peak broke just before Christmas.

Could be many of the vulnerable in Florida have died and many others are being protected more?

It takes longer to hit some areas. Honestly there are tons of reasons why. Just like my state rural in some places isn't as bad. How people live absolutely does make a difference. Just because Alaska isn't exactly the same doesn't mean it doesn't play in to Idaho. I think if you look at Idaho you'll find answers that won't help as a whole. Much like my areas where vaccination is under 20% many didn't even seen covid hit home until more recently. They just hear about it on the news. I'm not about to take what they did as gold. When you don't interact with people it's harder to spread and a complete shut down cannot happen for many places now. Florida honestly now has likely more younger people getting sick and therefore not dying. Look at overall. As someone whose parents are foolishly moving and currently in Florida I can tell you their healthcare has been crap lately. Please stop using small data to prove some place is better. 7 days is only a tiny window and ignores pasts.

When the pandemic will finally be over? Late Spring/Summer 2022?

I agee the single 7 day average is only a single point in time. That is why Florida has a total of 292 deaths per 100k is more important. Same is true for New York's 307 and New Jersey's 330, which are both higher than Florida. However, since Covid19 was supposed to hit seniors harder than others, that make Florida's medical treatment even better.

Now, none of the numbers mean anything. We don't know. The CDC keeps saying the outbreak is for the unvaccinated but the numbers in States with the highest vaccination rates are worse. I have said for over a year we need to test for antibodies but the government has not done this. I contend that if we tested for antibodies and took steps to either vaccinate and boost only those without antinodies or advised those without them that it was their responsibility for what may happen that we could beat this. However, if we continue down the path of just testing for covid19 we will never end this because there are just too many people who lose antibodies quickly or never develop them.

Whether your suggested strategy is a good idea or not, it is pretty obvious the strategy we have in place right now isn't working. Really, as I have alluded to in the past, I don't really know what the goal is right now. Save lives? Limit hospitalizations? End the pandemic? Keep kids in school? Just test as much as possible during each wave? Focus on vaccinations? All of these things cannot be goals or part of a cohesive strategy at the same time. Some, yes. All, no.

Get vaccinated, get booster and we WILL end this pandemic by Summer 2022.
