Much like early Delta, I’m seeing a lot of locals/acquaintances testing positive.

We made pretty careful Christmas plans: go to a cousin’s house, just the two of us plus her, and order in rather than risk a crowded restaurant.

Cousin came in contact with a friend who tested positive. Cousin now has a fever and is waiting for test results.

So we are just staying home and ordering in!

Our cases went from the 300-400 daily range to 2000 in just a week. And those numbers are low because wait times to get tested have ballooned.

Omicron is spreading like wildfire and anecdotally many people I know are, for the first time, having friends and family members test positive.

The question is how much hospitalizations are going to go up.

A whole lot of people are about to find out why they should have gotten vaccinated.

Most people aren't LIVING IN FEAR HIDING IN THEIR BASEMENT. I'm all for masks, vaccine passports and social distancing but I'm also been living my life. I still go out to eat regularly eating a bunch of unhealthy food and not exercising. Been to lots of hockey games and my local amusement park many times. I also wear my mask and am fully vaccinated. I don't call that living in fear.

I’m perfectly willing to admit that I am living much more cautiously—and yes, at times fearfully—than I did before the pandemic. It’s great that you feel confident enough to do all the things you’re doing, but I just wanted to say that there’s no shame in treading more carefully (which is not the same as being terrified, of course).

Don't get me wrong I am cautious with my life. Like I said I wear my mask everywhere and keep my distance from others. According to some living like that is living in fear.

That article is a bit misleading in the remote for a few of those named colleges. We have friends attending some in the article. They are simply remote for a week to allow for testing when they come back. So letssay they return on the 19th, that week is remote but they're back at the dorms. Once people test they plan to do in person the following week. Per messages that went out in the last couple of days.

My prediction is that many colleges will extend the period of remote teaching beyond what they’re currently announcing, as happened with the initial closures back in 2020. Just a hunch, and I may well be wrong. I think we’ll all know a lot more in the next few weeks. Either way, what an awful way to see in the new year.

Seems reasonable

I don't feel sorry for anyone who chose not to get vaccinated and end up getting Covid. TBH with how the majority have acted through the past 2 years I'm beyond the point of caring anymore. I have learned a lot about much of humanity the last 2 years and it's not good.

Todays depressing numbers. The US is up to 56 per 100k. NY is at 124, with NYC at 159. NJ is at 109 with Essex County at 191. Florida is at 68. We may not be able to trust the numbers for the next few days because of Christmas Holidays and the same for next week due to New Years. Therefore it will be almost 2 weeks before we know how bad things may have gotten. Be smart, wash your hands and wear a N95 mask.

I am no longer holding my breath universities can afford or will do the right thing. Too many friends teach with many at one of the largest in the nation. Their whispers are just to finally remove the unvaccinated from campus. They just shut down emails as a warning this past week and to push boosters. Given I know people who directly lost jobs due to 2020 closure in person, I don't know what to expect or what to hope for. One was close to retirement and pretty much unemployable due to age. A week or so remotely allowing students to be on campus is one thing. An entire shut down is another and has catastrophic chain events. Not sure you realize too, many schools start back in just over 2 with students arriving in just over 1 week. They don't have much time to figure it out.

Indiana will not update their pages from Dec 23rd-Dec 26th. Then again Dec 30th-Jan 2nd. I assumed most states would follow similar.

I’m not just speaking for myself, but sharing the murmurs I’m hearing from my colleagues. To be clear, I’m not claiming all or even most universities will take this approach, but I think a good number will.

How are you going to feel when someone who vaccinated gets Covid?

Do you feel levels of sorrow based on the degree of vaccination?
