That’s still crap.
NYPD officers need two years in military or 60 college credits to apply for the job. Starting salary in the low $40s, with 5 years making $85K, then with 10 years , making in excess of $100K is not a bad deal not including overtime.

It's more than that for those who would make such a move.
Many (most?) who would do so, are likely fed up with life in say the northeast, like NJ and NYC.
Incredibly high taxes, extremely high cost of living, mayors that don't have your back...
Oh, and more winter would be a plus.
Wait til they hit the wall of humidity and the bugs. 20 years was enough

What is the cost of living?

But many would. There is a reason, or reasons, the population in Florida continues to increase at a swift pace.
Let's be real here going to FL from NY is like culture shock to some. And vice versa. For all those who you find would, I wouldn't be shocked if you find as many if not more who would rather cut their foot off. This is my view working with NYers though as my office is based there. What some love about FL many hate with a passion. Again goes both ways.

I also live in an area that keeps expanding. But we're not as extreme. I love FL but you couldn't pay me to move there for sooooo many reasons. I love to visit but I wouldn't live unless retired. I'd sooner move to NY than FL and nearly did but like the middle ground of Ohio.

As long as they stay on the east coast of FL it will sound like home

You know what's funny?

Fair enough. I was only stirring the pot a bit. :)

i do stand by my statement about crap pay. But that’s pretty much the deal for cops all over.

Yeah some jobs don't pay enough. Cops are one.

And it's cool about "stirring the pot" I assumed you had a bit of pride too in Florida.

It definitely won't be the quality of certain foods. The NY style pizza advertised in FL pizza places is a joke, bagels, Chinese food, etc, nothing like the quality up North.
Oh my yes! Pizza and bagels, why are they so hard to find in Florida? Even my state does better than they do. It's sad honestly. Another compared to midwest for my husband is steak. Why is it is darn hard to find good steak? DH went to a "top steak house" in Tampa and quietly laughed when he got back (I didn't go as I don't eat red meat)

Stamford CT won't agree with you. 98% of top earners in the city are cops, police chief earning $300K and average cop salary $120-130K.

I like states with lower costs of living. And not horrible winters. Lol
Some day I'll be a snowbird. Winters suck. I bought a car late last year and it arrived in mid-Jan with snow tires. Couldn't get tires at that point so couldn't drive it if it snowed. Should be swapping wheels soon for winter ones. I hate the cold.
