I've heard similar elsewhere. My question is where will they go for work if they quit? I think these are bull headed threats.

I'm still iffy on mandates. I flip flop on thinking they're good or not but tbh I'd rather my health and fire and police be vaccinated. Wish it weren't such a divide really.
Plenty of suburban FDs hiring. There have been quite a few early retirements also. That is where it really hurts, losing all that experience.

Also, I've known people who were on a wait list to get into a police or fire academy because they were full, so even if 20% walk off the job that doesn't mean that they'll be down 20% of their employees. There are plenty of people waiting for those jobs - especially in places that pay well.

Florida is paying $5000 to come work there

Talk to any chief and they will tell you they are shorthanded and have been for years but the reason they are that way is the county. state, city etc will only give them money for a certain amount of staff. The FHP is short a lot of people and supposedly they were fully funded so they are having trouble finding people that will work for the offered wage.
Solution is always more money and a commitment moving forward to maintain that funding level. There is an unwillingness to spend for a service that doesn't pay back material things but allows society to keep operating and a safety net.

They are offering $5000 to move to Fl - for crap wages. $19-$22 an hour is not worth uprooting your entire life.

Have we seen any company that had more than 1% actually leave once the deadline came?

Didn't WDW mandate it for cast members? How much staff did they lose over it? Did we get any reports of departments that lost any significant number?

We've seen that what people say, and what people do in this scenario is very different.
This is part of what I've been reading. Also while some could leave, there are not jobs for all.

In response to FL that really is only an answer for those who want to move. $5k is not enough. Not sure it would cover moving expenses based on quotes my friend moving 350 miles is getting.

Again while I am not 100% for it in all cases, the fight against is baffling. Quite a few friends in healthcare are required certain vaccines yearly and now all of a sudden stupidity gets in the way. Very baffling.

OCPS is reverting back to its opt-out mask policy for kids in school (*note the projection of December 3rd, or sooner, for masking to become optional for Adults).

One item some don't know is if one gets into a motor vehicle accident in Central FL for example, one may have to wait for many hours on the side of the road for FHP to show up. Orange County law enforcement could come to the scene but only Florida Highway Patrol can investigate and write up the accident between both parties.

Seems police are paid like crap all over the nation:

I'm pretty sure the 5k bonus is for State police and I was unable to find a fancy graph for their salary, however I did see a number of job postings:

I dunno, I might jump at an opportunity to move from NY to West Palm Beach for a pay increase if I'm going from 50k to 60k and keeping more in my pocket tax wise.

Do these people really think things through? They could just get a free shot.....

It's more than that for those who would make such a move.
Many (most?) who would do so, are likely fed up with life in say the northeast, like NJ and NYC.
Incredibly high taxes, extremely high cost of living, mayors that don't have your back...
Oh, and more winter would be a plus.

Yeah I see way higher for NYPD in multiple places. The base may start in the 40s but all the extras add up

Nothing personal but money isn't everything and many would rather never move to FL. Even from Ohio I wouldn't want to make the move and I loathe winters.

In 5 1/2 years NYC police officers make $85K per year not including overtime. They start in the low $40s as a new officer. If you are an FHP officer the dept sends you where there is an opening anywhere in the state of FL.
