The land border re-opened yesterday to Americans who are fully vaccinated and have a negative COVID test within the past 72 hours.

The requirement for air travelers to quarantine in a hotel for three nights upon arrival ended yesterday as well.
Wow, I thought Canadians were smart. Test or not it seems like the wrong time to drop restrictions on cross border travel

I'm not going to excuse vax rates down here but I can tell you first hand that between vacationers down here and it being so hot people are staying inside, I think it is having an effect on the spike. Come winter, I believe an elevated case count will migrate north as people move indoors. But I hope Delta burns itself out before then.

Those plans were announced before the delta wave really caught fire, so that means that the planning probably preceded the announcement by at least several weeks. Knowing the speed of government, kind of hard to pivot away from such a major undertaking in less than a month.

Really hoping that the US border reciprocates soon. My wife hasn't seen her family in over two years.

You know what's funny?

Also, Canada is not immune to what comes with closing the border...they have their own interests, and special interest groups as well.

We have a flight booked to Toronto in December to see my family in Ontario over Christmas. I hope it is all more settled by then. As of right now, I guess I need to test prior to flying in, and then prior to heading home? Who knows by then.

Ahh, I didn't know that particular event was fully vaccinated. But I think my point still stands for large events where it is not a requirement. They should do vaccine pushes while they have an audience.
Fully vaccinated or negative test within 72hrs of entry. I think it was a 4 day event do people that wanted to go all 4 days would have been required to get tested twice. Once before, then again on one of the days it was being held. Plus masks at indoor locations required by all. Their twitter account gave stats

82% of British Columbians over the age of 12 have received one dose of a vaccine, with 70% fully vaccinated.

Hospitalizations and deaths are significantly down. COVID cases are going up a bit as restrictions have loosened but are still way down from the peak.

BC has less cases per capita than every single US state except for South Dakota.

This is a gradual re-opening with two important conditions on all travelers (vaccinated AND tested). The risk to Canadians, where vaccination rates have eclipsed the USA despite them having a head start of several months, would appear to be minimal.

One could argue that the restrictions are being lifted too soon just as one could argue that it's important to lift restrictions as the situation improves. Lots of people have friends & family across the borders of the two countries, to say nothing of tourism that both countries benefit from.

Agree or disagree with the move if you want, but when it comes to who is smart and who is handling COVID better, there is no comparison.

I’m currently viewing this whole vaccination thing like I do parenting. Not only is bribery completely wrong, it’s also absolutely necessary.
Some have tried various forms of bribery to get the state residents to roll up their sleeves and get that needle in their arm - beer, cash, marijuana, donuts, state park admission, and the list goes on. If we think that all the unvaccinated are masking up then that's fantasyland. More need to get vaccinated. Some will have to or else they will be laid off ( news flash - the ones who refuse to get vaccinated per their company policy and are fired will not be eligible to collect unemployment ).

Correct, you'll need a negative COVID test within 72 hours before your flight to Toronto, and then another test within 72 hours before you flight back to the States.

If your return flight is less than 72 hours after your first test (like a weekend trip), you only need to get tested once.

You should verify how many tests you need. My friends flew on the redeye to Croatia with no needed covid test. Prior to the return back to the USA, a negative covid test needed to be taken at the hotel prior to going to the airport ($30 US dollars ).

The arm.

But to actually answer the question from what I have observed, a lot of places. On top of the usual any store with a pharmacy, you have churches creating the best situation out of a memorial service where they are inviting people to come get vaccinated.
Hilarious and not at what what I was looking for. Not the memorial services, of course.
