After a full week in isolation, I thought I would venture to the local Target to get a few food supplies and one thing bugging me I didn't have(really needed a new air filter for the HAVAC), and I saw why this thing will spread. It looked like any other shopping day, I saw no wipes for the carts(sure hope someone is wiping them) none in the check out line, people walking way too close, not respecting space(one guy stood in the same spot in the aisle for literally 5 mins, while I waited for him to move so I could get a look at what I needed). Anyway I came away from there not feeling great about this slowing down anytime soon and not in a hurry to go to a store( I really thought there would be more cleaning measures). Oh and they didn't have my size filter. I kept my distance, cleaned my hands in the car...but still.
I can verify that the same is happening here. We've taken to wearing a bandanna around our nose/mouth when we go out, to err on the side of caution, and going forward will be a bit more vocal in politely asking people to please allow extra room.
In most areas the utility companies have announced they wont be cutting any services during the virus outbreak. So on its face it sounds suspect... never underestimate the number of scumbags that will pop up during a crisis to try and make a fast buck.
Oh, I'm well aware of that. His initial story was very convincing. Moved in with his low-income grandpa to help, heat had already been shut off when he moved in, it's propane, so he can only get it from the company that owns the tanks...it took about 20 minutes (guesstimate) for people to see through his bull when he didn't seem enthusiastic about all the help that was being offered. One person literally had already packed up her car with 2 space heaters and groceries and was asking if anyone wanted to pitch in. He's got a pregnant girlfriend (verified by the same people calling him out).
If you are that concerned, I suggest you wear a mask, even a DIY mask when you go shopping. It wouldn't be a perfect thing but it would give you some level of protection... and just standing for 5 minutes waiting for someone to move is really probably putting in as much risk as simply walking past them unless they are having a coughing fit.
We've been keeping hand and surface sanitizer in the car and wore bandannas out today.
Little update. We were both tested for influenza and covid. Our influenza tests both just came back negative, so you know what that means. Winner winner chicken dinner. I am 95% sure my wife will be positive for covid. Just trying to stay positive. Odd are in our favor. I’ll be happy to chronicle our experiences. My 14 year old son is now having symtoms.
Thanks for the update. Continued prayers! 🙏

I don't know if it will make you feel better or worse... but one of the reports from China stated that some people with the virus would also experience digestive issue like diaherra... but more to the punchline, those that experienced the digestive issues were more likely than others to require more intensive medical treatment. SO if you didn't really need to have all the TP you could fit in your cart your in a lower risk group than people that actually had a use for it. At any rate, start counting down the days you've had it, if you make it past 8 days you should be on the road to recovery and not have to worry about heading to the hospital.

Saw a Charmin add on TV today. Seems like a waste of advertising dollars. It’s also just plain mean;)
This could be a good time to buy stocks in the companies that make bidets... I know after this is all past my wife is going to insist on installing one so we don't have to go the any more TP hunts.

Do you know who you’re responding to?

Trust me I did not stand right next to them lol, that was the frustrating part, I couldn't see that my size filter wasn't there lol at the other end of the aisle. Made me think of this song...

One of my favorite tshirt shops has this available now

I haven't been sick this past week, but my wife's coworker had tested positive, and she was given the test Monday, so we waited on her results which we got a negative result this morning.

That’s great news! Was she in close quarters with her coworker? These are the stories I want to hear, someone testing positive and then the results of the people around them.
This is the best sort of data that we can have.

And now they’re reporting that WMATA (metro) has to shut down the 2 metro stations closest to the Tidal Basin to prevent crowding on the platforms and on the trains.

these choices people are making are why this situation is going to last longer than mid-April/May at this point.

As someone who both has a child who could be significantly impacted by this virus, and someone whose work is entirely on hold as long as schools are closed and social distancing is a must, it is incredibly frustrating to see these cavalier attitudes.
