Meaningful bribes haven't been tried. I'm pretty sure that if you gave people $1,000 tax free for getting vaccinated, a good percentage of the holdouts would get vaccinated. It should have been tied to the last stimulus.

An approach that wouldn't be without controversy though. Not just the contribution to government debt, but the notion of taxpayer dollars being used to influence a personal medical decision.

Not to mention the reputation hit, as people in countries that are desperate for vaccines see people needing to be paid to do something that just about everyone else would consider a privilege.

You know what i would like as a solution?

Honesty.

With less than 50% of this country vaccinated, it would make sense that out in public 50% of the people should be masked.

Yet they’re not.
Well don’t hold your breath we don’t need any more deaths caused by the unvaccinated.

What is it going to take? Another even worse variant that impacts the unvaccinated in greater numbers? I'm struggling to think of anything else other than bringing back strict restrictions.
Large daily death numbers. A variant that burns through the unvaccinated fast enough to create 500 or 750 daily deaths, maybe 1,000.

I thought we would get to 150 daily before calling it "done", and felt bad that that number was to high. We're more like 200 and calling it over. That's country wide, there's clearly areas that are way below that rate and really are done locally, and then some that are above it.

I'm not saying we will get to a number that high. I'm saying a number that high is probably what's required before anyone isn't just done. I think we're going to go up for the next 2 months, but I doubt (hope) we don't get over 500. We've bottomed out for now.

There's 3 types of people left unvaccinated.
  1. Those to young.
  2. Those with conditions making them unable. (Or vaccinated but doesn't work.)
  3. Those who haven't, either don't care, don't want to, or have structural issues getting vaccinated.
The first group will solve itself eventually. They're working on a constrained timeline of some sort. For instance, anyone who was 11 when the first shots were given to anyone is almost all eligible now. They're just aging to 12 and getting it. Once 5-11 is approved, that line will move to 4 year olds. Almost anyone who was 4 in 2020 will be eligible for the 5-11 age group by the time is approved.

The second group is in trouble. They need the rest of us to cover for them, and too many are not. This is the group to feel bad for, they've got a long timeline ahead of them with no clear end date. I wouldn't expect anyone in this group at WDW for a long time.

In the last group, those with the structural issues are getting some reach out, mostly. Hopefully we'll overcome those issues and support them.

For the rest, some will dribble in over the rest of the year, then there's the rest.....
Or you watch the world burn around you, take your vaccine, and hope your house doesn’t catch on fire.
I believe that's the national plan for the rest.

I can assure you that many immunosuppressed are out and about in public at their jobs, including WDW. At my central FL tourist job, I know which of my fellow employees are vaxx'd. But, the general public on the other hand...leave me no option but to mask up while interacting with them indoors.

At this point, I may likely have to wear the mask indefinitely, as it seems we are NEVER going to get to 70% vaxx'd.

Offer them a firearm, you could get them for less than $1000
That’s kind of racist but ok!

In my area the overwhelming majority of people who are not vaccinated are African American.

I know what your joke was inferring, but kinda funny how we have no problem belittling one demographic, while protecting another from any criticism.

Seriously and legitimately it could help with those who have financial issues getting time off too.

I'll go get vaccinated again for a full $1000. :D Paid fast passes anyone?
Not joking, but being paid for the trial convinced my son to want to do it for the teens last fall 🤣 school schedules vs trial schedules just didn't work.

I read it as referring to white people who support a particular politician...because they certainly aren't lining up to be vaccinated, and they certainly like their guns.

Yes
Delta put's us almost back to square 2. Not quite to the start but a massive setback, probably setting us a year back.
I don't want this happen but we will end Delta variant by 3-6 months to end the pandemic in USA again!
By the way by fall, all states will have indoor masks mandate again if Delta variant will gets worse soon.

From what I'm reading, the requirement of vaccinated people wearing masks indoors is not based on data showing that vaccinated persons are getting sick or spreading the virus. It's because unvaccinated people are not wearing masks and there is currently no way to distinguish vaccinated from unvaccinated. So everyone is subject to the mandate.

This is clearly a problem, but one of a different nature and in need of a different solution. A number of posters have speculated throughout this thread that if not enough people get vaccinated to solve the problem, it is going to become necessary to take a serious look at vaccine passports - regardless of how unpopular they may be with some segments of the population. Even DeSantis, in his EO, reasoned that we didn't need passports because a good number of people were getting vaccinated at that time. If that's changed, then the solutions have to change. The people who did the right thing by getting vaccinated are not going to stand for being treated the same as those who did not simply because no one can tell the difference.

"Emergency authorization for Covid-19 vaccines in children under 12 could come in early to midwinter, a Food and Drug Administration official said Thursday, a move that could bring relief to many parents who have been unable to vaccinate their children. The agency hopes to then move quickly to full approval of the vaccine for this age group.

One sticking point for some families who remain hesitant, the official said, is that the vaccines currently in use are administered under emergency use authorization and have not been given full approval by the FDA. Full approval, if it comes quickly after the emergency round, could alleviate that concern."

"The regulatory agency is asking for four to six months of safety follow-up data for kids under age 12, the FDA official said. Just two months of follow-up data was required for the clinical trials in adults.

That additional data could make the process of granting full approval easier. Six months of follow-up data is needed for what is known as a biologics license application, or BLA."

"Pfizer said in a statement to NBC News it anticipates results on its clinical trials in kids ages 5 to 11 sometime in September, and then could apply for emergency use authorization. "Data for kids 2 and under 5 could arrive soon after that," the company said, adding that results on kids ages 6 months up to 2 years may not be released until October or November."
