Does it matter? We have consistently been above the threshold for expected deaths since last spring. Nationally, weekly total deaths are FINALLY approaching the upper bound for that figure, meaning we’re FINALLY getting ahold of the situation from a death standpoint.

Whether it’s classified as “with” or “of,” the public health reality is that COVID at a minimum exacerbated preexisting conditions or the aging process or whatever and directly or indirectly caused way more death than we were expecting last year.
How does COVID exacerbate dying of a traffic related injury as doctors have testified to in New York? If you are dying of cancer or heart disease then these are your cause of death.

I have it on good authority that if you travel past Warp 10, you'll turn into a lizard person and make lizard babies.
Lt.Paris did it in voyager, don’t remember any lizard babies.😃He was just in all points of the universe at once.
Edit-Excuse the nerd in me coming out in a COVID thread. Continue on.
If Disney bought the rights to Star Trek and put the past series and movies on Disney+ we‘d all be speaking fluent Klingon here;)

Again: If you are fully vaccinated you are protected from delta and highly, highly unlikely to get it. You are free to go about your life. Covid is over for you. If you are unvaccinated you should change that before this thing really hits. Because we have more natural immunity then Britain, and more people fully vaccinated we may not have much of a spike, but that remains to be seen.
I keep reading and hearing that if you're fully vaccinated you're protected from Delta, but is this true for all vaccinated people, even those that got the J&J vaccine? I can't find specific information on this. Everyone in my extended family that is old enough got 2 doses of Pfizer. Everyone but me. Only J&J was available when I finally got an appointment and I thought that was better than nothing. Now I wish I'd held out for a 2 dose vaccine. The other thing that I can't find an answer to is, what if I go and get a second J&J or even 1-2 doses of another? Is that safe to do and would it be a good idea?

Later today we get the second full week report from Florida and finally get to see if Florida's numbers are still going down. Regrettably, there are a few states showing increases but still the NY Times is reporting a small decrease today, an average of 12,294 cases or 3.71 cases a day. Depending on Florida's numbers the NY Times could be reporting a rounded 3 cases per 100k tomorrow, only a decrease of 695 cases is needed and Florida could supply most of that. Florida used to be just over 10% of the US cases and now because of weekly reporting is now 13.3% with an average of 1,626. So will Florida be more representative of the US as a whole or like the few states showing increases? Lets hope it's the former and the US reaches 3 per 100k and Florida drops from 8 per 100k to 6 or less.
To add to this half the states are now at 3 cases per 100K or less. That was the ballpark estimated level that Fauci quoted months ago as when we should be safe to remove all covid restrictions and return to normal. For the total US we would need to get to under 9,930 cases a day to get to that level. Not far now 🥳🥳🥳

If it makes you feel better, I have all the exact same questions with the exact same scenario. No hard answers, but the J&J should be good enough. I've had the exact same thoughts about just getting a jab of one of the others mixed in too. :)

There isn’t great real world info on JnJ because it’s not commonly used in India or the UK. The JnJ vaccine is more similar to AstraZenneca then the mRNA vaccines and so far AZ seems to work pretty well vs the delta variant. Someone posted a study from the UK and 96% of delta variant cases were in unvaccinated people.

I’m no doctor, I just play one on a Disney fan forum…that being said I don’t believe there is any risk with getting another vaccine just in case. I believe other countries looked at mixing AZ and Pfizer and didn’t find an issue. I would talk to an actual doctor first but it seems like it would be safe to me :)

I have. She keeps telling me it's fine (with just J&J). Plus I should exercise more and spend less time on the internet and not in "the chair". Of course, she's been telling me those things since before COVID too. :)

Not sure if we get that update today. I saw on the CDC site they are not updating the dashboard today in observance of Juneteenth. Not sure if FL will still update today or not but the CDC won’t have the National numbers until tomorrow.

On that same note, the CDC "Emergency" meeting that was supposed to be today was postponed for the same reason.

Which makes more sense when you realize that "Emergency" just means "not originally planned, an extra" and not "OMG pants on fire we need to meet RIGHT NOW". :)

The AZ is 2 doses though, correct? If so, is 1 dose of J&J considered as effective as 2 AZ?

1 dose of JnJ is what the manufacturer recommends and what they tested in the larger trial. I believe they also ran a smaller, early trial with 2 doses that showed the 2nd dose wasn’t necessary. So the 1 dose of JnJ has around the same efficacy as 2 of AZ but that was tested vs the original strain of Covid in the trials. It’s hard to say on the delta variant due to lack of real world testing. In the UK they have seen that 1 dose of AZ has a significant drop in efficacy vs delta variant but 2 doses were always needed for the full effectiveness.

I just found an article posted yesterday on a local news site that says that Oxford University in the UK is currently doing a study mixing combinations of the 2 dose vaccines.

"So far, limited data suggests an AstraZeneca shot followed by the Pfizer shot is safe and effective. The combination also appears to come with a slightly higher likelihood of temporary side effects like aches and chills."

That's promising, although I'm not thrilled about the "higher likelihood of temporary side effects". My one dose J&J made me really sick.

We don’t know yet, but seeing as J&J one dose is similar to AZ and about as effective as the two dose AZ it should be ok.
