The Biden administration on Saturday put Johnson & Johnson in charge of a Baltimore contract plant that ruined 15 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, and moved to stop the facility from making another vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca, senior federal health officials said.
The extraordinary move by the Department of Health and Human Services will leave the Emergent BioSolutions facility solely devoted to making the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine and is meant to avoid future mix-ups, according to two senior federal health officials. Johnson & Johnson confirmed the changes, saying it was “assuming full responsibility” for the vaccine made by Emergent.

One cruise was enough for me.
It confirmed my suspicion that I'd much rather stay at a real hotel that is on a beach, than to be in a floating hotel that only visits beaches.
That was my exact feeling after one cruise. All of the restaurants/watercoaster/etc. are like: "it's amazing that they can have this on a boat!", but then you remember that they also have the same or better versions of this *not* on a boat.

I think an exception for me might be a Mediterranean cruise like my parents once did that visited Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia. I can see the appeal of waking up each day in a new city/country without having to navigate borders and foreign roads. (I tend to like the challenge of navigating foreign countries, but I can admit that is stressful.)

I thought the ultimate goal was for ALL people, regardless of age, to receive the vaccination? From the conversations thus far global vaccination for ALL is the eventual objective. I do not see it as a major issue that a young person slipped through a wait your turn crack. It is not news anymore that people have been jumping the line. I am sure the people administering the vaccinations are doing their best to enforce the "wait your turn" rules.

It's not a "fairness" issue. It's a safety issue. Are we assuming an 8 year old would require the same dose as an adult? It hasn't been reviewed or approved for 8 year olds.

And if the child had an adverse event? Who's legally at fault? Who sues who first?
And according to the news, the local health departments are trying to determine what to do next., Does the child receive a 2nd dose? Or not...? Is it safe...or not?

Such a debacle!

There is something about a cruise though. I’ve only taken 2, both Disney and the one to Mexican, Grand Cayman and Jamaica was just amazing. Sure we could have stayed at any of those places for a vacation but we wouldn’t have because we are not lay on the beach all day people. Don’t want to stay a week or so at any of them but a splash of a full day with some fun excursions, I’m in. If we take another it will be the Europe one. They are fun though depending what you are looking for.

Certainly it's a "to each their own" situation. The explosion in the number of cruise ships in the past decade indicates that most people really enjoy them.

I certainly get it: no meal planning, no driving, same bed every night. It's really easy and that's what a lot of people want for a vacation. And we certainly enjoyed our cruise, it's just not what I'm personally looking for in a vacation.

I’m with you on that. I love going places and doing my own thing. I love the meal planning, driving around in an unfamiliar place, exploring on my own. Nothing beats getting a good travel guide for an unfamiliar area and deciding what you want to do and not do. Planning a vacation is a hobby for me and I enjoy it. I know a lot of people that are the opposite. They want everything done for them with no hassle and you get that with a cruise or a vacation with a tour group. It is a matter of preference.

That’s a good solution all around. The biggest issue that drove the mix up was that the facility was manufacturing 2 different vaccines so requiring they focus on one makes sense and since JnJ is approved and being used it makes sense they focus on that one. Since the government is ultimately buying whichever doses they manufacture it makes sense they would make the call to switch to just JnJ. That should help to get the facility approved by the FDA and get the deliveries ramped up. Good move.

Update: I originally had Moderna dose 1 on April 6. I was able to call this morning and get Pfizer on April 5. This is key since I’ll now get dose 2 before my Disney trip on 4/29.

My thoughts exactly.
I'd bet a European river cruise, or Alaskan cruise is a much better and different experience.
But a cruise to Caribbean islands?
I much rather stay at a nice hotel on the beach that I can go to and from at will.

Though nationwide, cases continue to rise, I'm looking at you Michigan, at least average deaths continue to drop. Granted, they typically lag, we'll see where things stand in a few weeks.

What’s supposed to be happening in December?
I think that’s when the micro chips activate ;).

In the history of vaccinations there has never been a vaccine that has resulted in an adverse medical condition that didn’t surface for a year or more. That’s not how the science works. The vaccine is out of your system completely well before a year. All that is left are anti-bodies and t-cells which your body produced in reaction to the vaccine which are virtually the same as the ones created by natural infection so if those cells cause a problem (highly unlikely) anyone naturally infected would have the same problem. I think people mix up medications which are taken continuously for months and years that can have a cumulative impact on your organs that doesn’t show up for months or years with a one time vaccine.

The benefit of a Caribbean cruise: instead of the "same old" beach every day for a week, you wake up to a completely new and different beach at a new port. I LOVE the endless possibilities of planning shore excursions, choosing between snorkeling, culinary tour, beach day, ziplining, rafting, etc...

I'd much rather a cruise than (1) week at a hotel.

I do not know about everyone but I felt nothing being COVID vaccinated. Am I supposed to be disappointed?
Have to second this. Nothing adverse with 1st or 2nd Pfizer.
Nothing to worry about. In the trials over 80% of people reported a soar arm, but all other adverse reactions were under 50% of people. Headache and moderate fatigue were in the 40 percentile and things like fever, chills, severe fatigue and other flu like symptoms were in less than 10% of people.
