Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

When we were going to eat at the Hollywood Brown Derby for lunch, someone asked if all these people across the way from the restaurant were in line for a parade. They commented no they're in line for a queue for a ride. We went last March, the week before Disneyworld shut down and were one of the first to ride Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad. At about lunch the queue to the ride was as long as the opening day that we went. When we first rode the ride, we waited hours to ride the new ride.

The lines are long because each group is 6 feet apart.

Next vacation? We need a vacation from our current one. Our dog had to have surgery before we went. We had to keep him sedated since he had stitches. When we arrived after 9 hours, we told our resort that we had a reservation within 20 minutes and my wife needed one of our bags to change. The Yacht club wouldnt even have our bags to our room in time for the reservation and we had to call multiple times to Shula's Steakhouse, and luckily they held our reservation for us. The Yacht club didn't even care. We just wanted a break. . .

That’s because Sam manages the Yacht Club.

Lets start todays number report with some good news. There are now just 18 states with 20 or more cases. The country is still averaging 19 cases per 100,000 but is down from 20 yesterday. Florida is still at 24 but NY is down to 42 while NJ is at 50 and Michigan is at 57. Hopefully, this is the start of another big drop over the next 2 or 3 weeks. With 33 states at or below the national average it is clear the end is near.

Why did you give bell services your bags with clothes you needed?

The even better news in that report is that in their small study strong protection was indicated against the South African variant. 800 trial participants, 9 cases all in placebo group, 6 of which were the SA variant. Also, the 91.3% appears to be against infection. It said that it was 95-100% effective (depending on how you measure severe) against severe disease.

No, it isn't a problem. Florida is really lagging behind in disbursing the vaccines.

Florida is 39th. Thanks Ron
Let's not go too crazy. With a few outliers on the high or low end, the vast majority of States are within 3% or so of FL. It isn't like FL is drastically lower than other large population States. According to the CDC, FL is 28%, CA is 30.7%, NY is 31.1%, TX is 25.8%, MI 28.6%, IL 31%.

Is it great? No, but, it's not like there is some kind of disaster going on. Some of it could be people not seeking out the vaccine right now because they think it is too difficult or just don't want it. @JoeCamel, you just posted yesterday about a bunch of walk up slots available near you. Every time I look at the CVS website, there are multiple locations throughout FL with appointments available without any kind of virtual waiting room.

Exactly, only CA and TX have administered more doses. Looking at the % of population vaccinated alone cannot be the one factor to look at. So we in New Mexico have the highest % in that area. Whooptie Doo, we have a far smaller population, so swinging that % one way or the other is more easily attained. Florida's focus on elderly first takes a bit longer to distribute as those folks aren't as mobile. Now that younger ages are eligible, if they opt in, doses could get in arms at an even higher rate.
