Vaccines aren't available in your country?
vaccination its a MESS. slow to a crawl, corruption rampant everywhere, desorganization, stealing . + the most available vaccine its the sinopharm crap that its turns out now it requires 3 doses..and effectiveness is lower then expected. population 33 million and we are vaccinating 13k dosis per day...so yeah.

This is by no means a definitive answer, but here's an article that looks at the question of how well at least Moderna and AstraZeneca prevent the spread of COVID-19 (data was lacking for Pfizer-BIONTECH). Short summary, there's at least some promising reasons to suspect that they do substantially lower the risk of spreading the infection.

Ignore the clickbait headline, though. The hypothetical "nightmare scenario" it references would be if the vaccines only prevent severe illness, and have no effect on transmission.

I'm going to take a gamble that general weight gain is true.
I'll also state that by and large the population of this country learned no lesson from this pandemic.
Have people largely vowed, or more importantly will make an effort in their personal health that would enable them to handle such a respiratory virus the next time around?
Are they teaching their children a lesson learned from The Great Pandemic of 2020/21 that the overweight, and those with lifestyle related conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular, conditions etc. did so poorly, and that these people should make an effort to secure their own health in the future?
Not likely, and certainly in very small numbers.
Here's what "we" learned: Carry on like you usually do, don't change anything about yourself, and when the next pandemic comes along - a vaccine will be available in less than one year.
So you learned, off of a bad article and a “gamble” that weight gain increased, that people won’t change anything about themselves? Wow. Amazing what a year in a pandemic, how it can teach people different things.
This is what I learned.
I found out that many of my fellow citizens didn’t care one bit about the safety of others. I found out how much our essential workers need a raise. I found out how some people will go to any lengths to help neighbors and people they don’t even know. I found out how spiteful some are when they aren’t allowed to go out and get a burger or order of fries without a mask on and then claiming their freedoms are being taking away. I found out who some of my neighbors are and they are good people. I found out how it took the government from April-may of last year to the end of December, 6-8 months to help out hurting businesses and people YET it took 24 hrs after GameStop went crazy to have meetings and committees and hedge fund accountants to be in DC. Government again working for us. 🤦
I guess we all learned different things but obesity never entered my mind. But I guess it could be if true.

Granted, I haven't been in high school in several decades, but I remember a large portion of health class being about good diet and healthy living. Are they not teaching this stuff anymore?
It may be taught but it is harder to put into practice when you can’t safely walk anywhere and good food isn’t available nearby. The ease of having stuff brought to you for the past year certainly hasn’t helped poor habits.

As a largish lady of advancing years I am absolutely sick of the holier than though attitude towards obesity. It implies that if you are overweight it is only to be expected that you will at some point catch COVID-19, then the results will be worse and why should society do anything to save you?
Well nobody knows why someone is over weight, is it due to a metabolic disorder, a hormone imbalance, genetics, an eating disorder, mental health problems or simply because they enjoy food?
People who are obsessed with their weight and physical appearance tend to be dismissive of everyone else and ignore or ridicule the struggles of the obese if they try to adjust their weight.
What should have been learnt through this pandemic is compassion, kindness and good will instead we find dismissal of death, financial difficulties, physical appearance etc. regularly appearing in postings.
We need to remember that every life matters, the ability of everyone to survive financially matters, a kind word is more powerful than a dismissive statement and it requires everyone to cooperate and support each other if we are truly to defeat the pandemic across the world.

6th grade health class is sorta optional here and consists of a 9 week grading periods. But to take it means completely skipping other classes. The other classes are Library, gym, STEM, art, each 9 weeks, then Choir or Band both run the full school year. They put their class choices in order of preference then find out their schedule first day of school. Since health was DD12s least favorite she doesn't have it this year.

My DD has some class choices in 8th grade between STEM, world language, music, PE, art.. but health is required for 1 trimester in both 7th and 8th grade. Actually, in 2 weeks they are starting a lesson called "super size me" that looks at the fast food industry.

As a competitive gymnast, she has also had some talks on nutrition through her gym. But it is tough when we are in a society completely surrounded by junk food.

6th and 7th grade health here both had that (We're only as far as 7th here). I took very little health classes in HS myself, but by that point we had already been taught about diets.

Early on there were a few heartless "grandma was old anyway" posts, but I haven't seen those in awhile. Hopefully they've gone the way of the "people are selfish and don't care who dies" posts. Neither position is very helpful, in my opinion, except as a feel-good measure for those who have nothing of substance to say and just like to trigger others.
I’ll agree it’s much more civil. Which is 99.95% likely the result of the hoaxers mostly disappearing...

...but we still have the “sons of Liberty” and the “economists” with thinly veiled rationale that boils down to essentially: “I want it!”

..:we were born during the day...but it wasn’t yesterday

Sure, I just don't think it's fair to categorize the conversation of yesterday in one of those categories. Which is what started all the new hullabaloo today/yesterday.

My fault though! I shouldn't engage in a back/forth with someone as it never really results in anything that means anything.

I don’t disagree that a lot of restaurants are at best breaking even at 50% capacity. You are assuming they would be filled to 100% capacity if they were allowed to be fully open. I don’t think that would be the case for most restaurants and that is my point. How many of those restaurants are full to their 50% capacity limits and turning customers away? I haven’t heard many stories of people going out to eat and not being able to find a table. The limits prevent some restaurants and bars from packing in people, most likely on a Friday or Saturday night. A large number of restaurants aren’t filled to capacity most of the time even with a 50% cap. Not all of the loss in demand is mandated by the government. A lot of it comes from people altering their behavior. We’ve seen from mobility studies that as cases dropped in areas people did more and as cases spiked people pulled back on activity. It’s possible that some restaurants could have actually done better if they were consistently filled to 50% capacity because cases were down and more people were eating out.
It's Friday and Saturday night that the restaurants need full capacity to turn a profit for the week. There are plenty of restaurants I've seen near my house that have long waits on the weekend where pre-covid the wait was never more than 15 minutes at peak times.
Way back in the beginning when masks first became recommended the narrative was that masks should be worn anywhere in public where it’s impossible or impractical to maintain 6 feet of distance. Remember the one way arrows on the ground in aisles in stores. Over time we’ve sorta just determined that masks are needed anywhere in public because as it turns out people are very bad at distancing. Now that could be a chicken or the egg situation and maybe people ignore distancing because everyone is wearing masks. Either way, I agree with the point that masks would be less relevant if people actually maintained 6 foot distancing, especially outside.
The other issue with masks which I observed a lot in Las Vegas last week is more people than normal just coughing away with no attempt to cover the cough because they are wearing a false sense of security. Covering a cough with no mask on is a far more effective way to prevent disease transmission than not covering a cough with a mask on.

Plus you constantly see people touching their mask with dirty hands to adjust it.

Since I exercise on vacation which I normally do in my house, the one benefit of Nevada's mask mandate is I'm now prepared if I am ever bound and gagged and manage to free my feet I'll be able to run away with restricted airflow.

Of course, removing your mask to smoke in the casino is fine and not a public health issue at all.

In the announcement from the Governor on the 25th about vaccine eligibility, he mentioned all Floridians age 18 and older will be eligible on April 5th.

However, it looks like the state will be clarifying that 16 and 17 year olds will also be eligible on the 5th.

more worrisome is that they are open to essentially Everyone and the state is at 26% vaccinated.

people are not taking this seriously enough...it’s going to ruin the whole thing.

if people want to avenge past economic grievances, red herring issues or an election result...vote the next time. Don’t kill people and wreck the fabric of the country instead.

I think the state is only 26% vaccinated due to supply, not lack of demand or any bizarre political motive based on an election result.
