People need to come to terms with the fact that “fair“ has nothing to do with this. The fair way to do things is not always going to be the best way to get it done. Removing high risk people from the equation helps us all in the medium to long term as hospitals begin to recover and deaths drop off.

Rational adults agree...but apparently there aren’t nearly as many of those as ever once was.

This isn’t a “reward”...it’s the Scarlet S

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in COVID‐19 is associated with high mortality. Mesenchymal stem cells are known to exert immunomodulatory and anti‐inflammatory effects and could yield beneficial effects in COVID‐19 ARDS.
Mortality in patients with COVID‐19 and ARDS was reported to be 52.4%

At 31 days after the first infusion (corresponding to 28 days after the last infusion), patient survival was significantly improved in the UC‐MSC vs the control group: 10 of 11 (91%) vs 5 of 12 (42%), respectively (P = .015). The hazard ratio for death comparing the control group with UC‐MSC treatment group was 8.76 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.07‐71.4), indicating that the control group had a higher risk of death.

Small Phase 1 trial but initial results do look promising as a treatment. Need a larger trial.

Yeah, but it is a thing in other areas that it should be ONLY American citizens, full stop, and I did not want that discussion to come here.

Or maybe that isn't what this post implies.

So we let people continue to spread the disease because they weren't born here? Asking as someone with family who had to work hard to become citizens and others who really don't need citizenship but work here. Sorry I have little patience for this idea and rhetoric I see spewed often.

Is this the new boogie man from the riotous news network?

Oh, for Pete's sake. Since I voted for Trump I guess that means that I'm a white nationalist xenophobe that doesn't want those dirty immigrants to get vaccinated so that as many as possible can be killed by COVID? Where do you people come up with this stuff?

@GoofGoof posted an article from a (liberal leaning) newspaper which I don't subscribe to and therefore couldn't read that had a headline about foreign nationals getting vaccines instead of Florida residents. I agreed that that was wrong and made a quick comment. I guess I should have said US residents who pay the taxes which paid for (or supported borrowing to pay for) the vaccines.

Yeah, not what I meant. Just a simple check to make sure the people getting the vaccine actually live here and aren’t tourists from another country.
I assumed that for you :) But your original phrasing was open for another interpretation, as seen by the follow up that I was trying to avoid promoting directly by quoting your post and not it.

But of course you assumed what I meant knowing nothing about me other than that I voted for Trump and support Ron Desantis' policies with respect to COVID? You open minded people sure do make a lot of assumptions.

It's funny that when I saw the posting and even when I typed "citizens" I didn't have any thought whatsoever about either the article or my comment referring to immigrants in any way. I was actually perplexed when I saw the first post about it and it took me a second to realize how it was interpreted.

Was that article behind a paywall? I don’t remember subscribing. Here’s another one with the same basic story:

I am fine with snowbirds in FL at their second homes getting vaccinated there even if they aren’t from the US. What’s definitely not ok is people flying into the US to get the vaccine. The other article referenced people going online from their home country and booking vaccine times and then coming to get it.

It was behind a paywall for me (maybe I've clicked on too many of their articles). I agree with you completely. What I have a problem with is the same as you, people flying into the US to get the vaccine. I don't blame people from other States doing it but hopefully as more states follow the CDC Desantis Plan and open up to 65+, fewer will have a need to do this.

It’s doesn’t mean you’re that AT ALL...

It means that those concepts are not a “deal breaker “ for you 😉👌🏻✌🏻

Do me a favor, do not quote me and put words in my mouth so to speak. Thanks. I didn't even say anything about political leanings or you. Just that I'm sick of specific rhetoric against immigrants. Full stop on that. You read into it greatly.

Though specifically to you, all need vaccinated. Don't care tax paying status. All need vaccinated in my eyes period.

Apparently, I am not the only one capable of making incorrect assumptions. Given WDW's location, and its visitor demos I believe there are several posters here who are Trump voters, and I would not assume they intended to reinforce the most literal interpretation of "American citizens." Expressions of agreement, with nothing to add, usually involves clicking the "like" button. So I assumed you were trying to add or reinforce something beyond simple agreement, and since there are only 10 words in your post, the options are limited. Despite your belief that we only know your voting record, after the last many months we all know a lot about each others posting styles. And I responded more toward your tendency toward specificity and not your politics. Two people can use the same word or phrase and one means hand-waving generalness and others are defining boundaries.

For the record, I am HAPPY to have mis-interpreted your post.

Yea, because no racists or xenophobes voted for Hillary or Biden... Go ahead and believe that if it makes you feel better.
Your words. Not mine.
Perhaps you didn't notice the question mark. Good to know how you view anybody that voted for Trump.

I request the same courtesy about words being put into mouths. I didn't say anything about immigrants. If you thought I might have been making that reference you could have questioned me instead.

Eventually all need to be vaccinated but while supply of doses and capacity to inject the doses is limited, the senior citizens 65 and over who have contributed financially over the course of their lives to make the purchasing of the vaccine possible should have priority.

I replied instead of using the "like" button because the post about the foreign nationals was in response to my post about people from other States coming to FL to get the vaccine.

I apologize for the assumption. When I saw several responses that all seemed to imply that I don't want immigrants to get the vaccine it caused me to assume the reasoning behind the implication.

I meant it as a generalization and synonym to residents. I should have been a little more verbose in the post to also indicate that my issue was related to the current situation where there are far fewer doses available than people in the 65+ group who want them.

For the record I am completely in favor of Governor Desantis' efforts to use churches to try and build trust for the vaccine and get more people vaccinated in underserved/minority communities.

I 👏 didn't 👏 quote 👏 you 👏

Seriously why are you doing this when I didn't say a single word to you. You seem to think I care about trashing based on politics. I don't. I'm neither republican nor democrat. So stop assuming. Stop arguing with me. If I want to say something to you, I'll quote you. So stop acting like I even said one word to you about this.

Believe as you wish about taxes, but I find that to be a bit assuming since you don't know what they've paid or where they lived prior

J&J to begin distribution by March, quantities and ongoing #s TBD.
There is going to be an issue if J&J comes in at 80% effective. There will be a not insignificant number of people who will want the "better" vaccines. Sure, 80% is more than enough to get to herd immunity if enough people get it but when people get vaccines their motivation is to protect themselves, not create herd immunity.

I bet if you asked people who get the flu shot why they got it and didn't give them multiple choice, the vast, vast majority will answer with something that translates to "I don't want to get the flu." I doubt that more than 5% of people who aren't in the healthcare industry give any thought to trying to create herd immunity to the strains of the flu that are in the shot and that is probably a very high estimate.

To get people to just get whatever vaccine is available, I think will require incentives. Not even financial, although those will help. People who get shots will have to be allowed to do things that violate COVID protocols as a reward for getting the shot.

Speaking for myself, really the only reason I don't want to get COVID is that I don't want to lose my sense of taste or smell for a potentially extended period of time. My personal motivation to get a vaccine is to minimize the chance of getting that symptom. Therefore, I want to get the most effective vaccine possible. If I have a choice to get an 80% effective vaccine today or wait a couple of months to get a 95% effective vaccine, I'd rather wait.
