Exactly!!!!
I keep saying this. I feel like everyone is just blindly hysterical because they’re told to be hysterical. The media is basically useless right now. I turned it off in disgust today, and can’t even bring myself to turn on any so-called news channel at this point.. and I’m someone who watches a lot of cable news.
It’s just all too surreal.
Give us REAL DATA.
Here is a very detailed article from the NY Times citing CDC studies. A noteworthy quote "And, the calculations based on the C.D.C.’s scenarios suggested, 2.4 million to 21 million people in the United States could require hospitalization, potentially crushing the nation’s medical system, which has only about 925,000 staffed hospital beds. Fewer than a tenth of those are for people who are critically ill."
Worst-Case Estimates for U.S. Coronavirus Deaths (Published 2020)
Projections based on C.D.C. scenarios show a potentially vast toll. But those numbers don’t account for interventions now underway.www.nytimes.com
Probably because he doesn't want to look like he is doubting the great Dr. Fauci. He may not even have been given that data. Florida doesn't publish data of hospitalizations. The CDC might not even be collecting that data. This is the agency that totally botched the testing rollout. So, why doesn’t the VP say it, unprompted? If the media is so terrible, why wait for them?
I disagree and find that to be an extremely unfeeling blanket statement. You’re getting as hysterical as those you’re attacking.
I haven't read the bill but it seems to have been written, based on reports, with the thought of stopping the spread by having sick people stay home from work. I don't think they considered the insane shutdown of the whole country as being a possibility. There will have to be a new bill to address that which will add a few trillion to the deficit.Am I not reading it right or are there shortcomings in that bill that was passed? I only see 2 weeks paid leave... for illness or caring for someone ill... the country is literally shutting down for probably 6-8 weeks... how does 2 weeks help?! The alternative suggestion was to file for unemployment. I’m so confused as to how this helps?!
Nobody on this forum had provided ample facts because the facts that are needed have not been published or disseminated.Ok. It must be soul fulfilling to solve the problems of the world on a Disney forum, rolling your eyes at anyone who has provided more than ample facts and statistics.
Did something change where the CDC was allowed to release these sort of guidelines without the approval of the Vice-President? I doubt Pence would authorize it, if Trump didn't allow it. If you want to be literal about it, then yeah, he didn't SAY it, but I'm not sure that matters, with the way the administration has set the "coordination with the CDC."
I feel like everyone is just blindly hysterical because they’re told to be hysterical.
No, Boris idea is what Tallica and DisneyCane were suggesting. Just let everyone get infected and not close anything down. Let sports and concerts go on, get everyone infected and try to isolate the vulnerable people.
Even if that exact info isn’t made public how can you guys be so sure nobody has it. People whose job it is to handle these situations have a lot more info than we do. You are assuming the numbers are much better than discussed publicly and this is all an overreaction, but what If you are wrong and the numbers are actually way worse. It might then be irresponsible for the government to share that info with the public and create an even bigger panic, but would explain all of the moves being made. Can you point me to any website or transcript of how many tests have been conducted in each county, of each state, and how many of those who tested positive were critical, severe, or mild?
I’ve asked this here and on FB, I’ve googled it like crazy.. I’ve watched so many press conferences and read so many “updates”
Not one person has been able to show me those numbers, nor have I been successful in finding it myself.
It's a legitimate approach and is something that I advocated but once the media and public step in it's unworkable.
Once March Madness and the NBA, NHL, MLB were cancelled we lost the opportunity to try that approach because that approach relies on carrying on as usual and not shutting down life.
No government in the world has taken this seriously. Europe has not taken this seriously and are being rewarded. We are about 12 days away from being in a similar place. The U.S. has offered assistance to China but was turned down. How is a vaccine made from a novel virus when no sample exists? It would be one thing if we were fumbling about and Europe had their stuff together. But Europe is in huge trouble so I think it's unfair to blame and finger point. This virus has been something nobody has ever seen before and is just really hard to tackle.
At first it was, oh cute, funny Corona virus that just effects China and Asia, interesting topic of conversation and joking, it will never make it over here. That was basically the attitude.
And now it's here and life has been cancelled.
I haven't read the bill but it seems to have been written,

I realise that some out there are panic-buying and doing other silly things, but aren't you exaggerating just a tad? If we take this thread as an (admittedly tiny) example, I'm really not seeing much in the way of blind hysteria.
I believe we are adjusted to singular event disasters and then a period of recovery. Hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, whatever they are, they are usually over quickly. It's a sort of disaster rhythm we've gotten into. This is something different. It feels like it should be over and we should be recovering. I believe that mindset has some impact on those behaviors.I think even kids are at this point. My son understands that all of his sports are canceled, but then he’ll say “I think we’ll be back next week. We won’t stay canceled.” Or the polar opposite when he’ll just get sad and say “Mom, do you think this spring is totally ruined? It feels like it.”
My heart breaks for kids right now. From kindergarten to seniors, especially 8th graders and seniors.. what a bad time for them.

MGM Resorts International Statement On Temporary Closure Of Las Vegas Properties
/PRNewswire/ -- MGM Resorts International (the "Company" or "MGM Resorts") today announced its decision to temporarily suspend operations at its Las Vegas...www.prnewswire.com
Schools are closed for a minimum of 3 weeks, I’m dreading a longer time frame will be announced in the next couple of days.
All sports are canceled for more than a month.
Bars and restaurants are closed.
People are reading supermarkets Hurricane style, but with an added weird obsession with toilet paper.
All of this is happening in areas who don’t even have confirmed cases.. so, no, I can’t say that “hysteria” is an over exaggeration.
Next time you need major heart surgery, feel free to jump on a plane to Naples. Good luck with that. And all of the medical breakthroughs coming out of Sicily...Ok, this comes from wikipedia.
But your statement couldn’t be more wrong if you tried:
In 2000 Italy's healthcare system was regarded, by World Health Organization's ranking, as the 2nd best in the world after France,[3] and according to the World Health Organization, Italy has the world's 6th highest life expectancy.[4] The life expectancy at birth in Italy was 82.3 years in 2012, which is over two years above the OECD average.[2]
