I am so tired of people in the United States demanding "lockdowns" or saying they have been in lockdown, that lockdowns are coming, that lockdowns are here, or that they have been locked down or quarantined. Did you go to the store without having one day and time to be allowed to leave your house? Did you walk your dog? Did you go through the Starbucks drive thru? Pick up Chipotle or have it delivered?

Not a single United States citizen has been locked down in their home country. And #quarantinelife is not picking up your Dunkin' frap and going to a physically distanced holiday tree lighting.

Lockdown means you are literally not permitted to leave the inside of your home without legal ramifications. Other countries have locked down. Quarantining means you are locked down *and* isolated from anyone else, save for someone you live with. Visiting neighbors and friends in the driveway or driving by for a gift exchange is physically distanced socialization. But can we please stop using the phrase lockdown to describe things like temporary suspension of indoor dining in restaurants? It's being thrown around so freely these days. Even those like that are demanding Disney close and just emotionally type "maybe DeSantis will lockdown now" or "LOCKDOWNS WORK" would not likely support an actual lockdown where they could be fined or arrested for stepping foot in their driveway if it's not their prescheduled "outdoor recreation hour".

We're on "stay at home suggestions" in the United States and that's all we've ever been in, even in the strictest states. Your #quarantinelife in #lockdown is simply staying away from others and not going out in public as much.

None of us in the US have been locked down. So just stop it.
Without the day and time restrictions, we sure as heck were ordered locked down in Broward county, FL in late March/early April. There was an order by the mayor that we were not allowed to leave our property of residence except to do something "essential." You were allowed a certain number of feet (300 or 500) to walk your dog. The mayor said it was enforceable but I'm not aware of any instance where they tried to enforce it. You are wrong that everywhere was just suggestions.

He’s got a point, though.
Have we not been talking positively about the vaccines? Have we not talked positively about the stability of the virus vs influenza?

Have we not been positive about the things everyday people can do to save lives vs all the fatalistic, “The virus is going to get us all anyway, so we might as well give up. People are going to die anyway.” The amount of “giving up” talk that gets used to justify people doing what they want, and we’re the ones that get hit with the “not positive” stick.

Looks like our broken government finally agreed on a relief bill that could be voted on as early as tonight. Highlights include:
  • $300 federal unemployment supplement
  • Direct payments of $600 to many adults.
  • Some families are also expected to get $600 per child.
  • $300 billion into small business assistance including Paycheck Protection Program loans.
  • temporarily keep in place pandemic-era programs that expanded unemployment insurance eligibility.
  • put critical funding into the distribution of the two FDA-approved Covid-19 vaccines.
  • send relief to hospitals, many of which have struggled to keep up with a flood of Covid-19 patients.
  • put new money into education and transportation.
This is welcome news for the many people and businesses that need help to get through to the finish line that the vaccine hopefully brings.

Ill believe it when its voted in. Its a pathetic bill, but I guess we can't expect much more right now.
This would have been pathetic if it came out when the other bill ran out and people really needed it.

The fact that people have waited months for this? Way beyond pathetic.
I know the news of this is trickling out and none of us know for sure the exact wording but I’ve been checking everywhere and I can’t seem to find if unemployment would be extended again. I see the 300 bucks as a extra.. also seen reports of 10-16 weeks but it never says whether that’s for the 300 bucks or are they extending the unemployment also. If anyone has a answer I would appreciate it!

I guess my opinion from lurking and then recently joining is the fatalistic "omg LOCKDOWNS NEED TO HAPPEN" "omg DISNEY NEEDS TO CLOSE" "OMG I AM BEING RESPONSIBLE BY STAYING HOME AND YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM FOR EATING IN A RESTAURANT AND GOING TO DISNEY" rhetoric combined with the ad hominem comments when discussing things is just tiring. But what do I know?

They are all opinions by posters, not news as you called it. That’s what a message board is..opinions with fact based links or studies to prove what they are saying needs to be done. Most good news like vaccines.. or death counts or positivity going down is welcome with open arms here.

“Democrats made concessions over unemployment benefits to secure the checks. While the original gang of moderate senators proposed reauthorizing federal programs for gig workers and the long-term jobless for four months, the new agreement would continue federal programs for unemployed Americans for just 11 weeks, a source familiar with the talks said, to offset the cost of another round of direct payments.

The final deal would give $300 per week in federal unemployment insurance to laid-off workers on top of their state benefits for 11 weeks — half of the $600 benefit Congress passed last spring but still larger than any boost the program has seen in previous years.

Democrats also won an extra 11 weeks of compensation for people who have been unemployed for so long they’ve run out of both state and federal benefits, as well as language easing repayment requirements for workers who were accidentally overpaid by a state workforce agency.

But Republicans won a gradual phase-down of federal programs. Workers won’t be able to start a new federal claim after March 14, but will be allowed to continue receiving benefits until April 5 if they started a claim before then. A gradual end to federal benefits would mean there would be less of a “cliff,” where millions of people get cut off at once, pressuring Congress to act.”

Thanks! It’s mostly what I have read also but as you can see, it says through mid March for the extra 300 but nothing about whether regular unemployment will be extended for another 13 weeks or whatever. I’m assuming since it runs out.. the extra weeks that is at the end of this month, that it would be. But, I’ve assumed a lot of things and it doesn’t always work that way.

That’s the most clear article I read. Thanks!
