I didn’t think walking into a bank was even a thing anymore. People still need to walk into banks?
Every time I'm in a bank, everyone I see is there for small business reasons.

My reasons for sometimes being in a bank is A. Cashing savings bonds B. Picking up our order of foreign currency pre-travel. When my Grandma passed, I also had to visit a branch of her bank to fill out a bunch of paperwork to get my portion of the distribution from her retirement account.

As I have said before, most people will do absolutely anything they need to do to get the pandemic under control, as long as those things don't require them to change any facet of their behavior.
That hasn't been my experience. We're still dealing with a very small portion of the population that is contracting the virus. Unfortunately it's still too many. But we have lots of people staying home (you can find many of them on this very board 😄) or canceling get-togethers to say nothing of teachers and kids either working and learning from home or wearing a mask all day at school.

That's what I have been seeing also. I'm in a vulnerable age group and am grateful for all those who have lost pay/profits, sometimes their jobs, businesses that have closed (temporarily or permanently) or modified their services, people who have canceled or modified travel plans, put off life events such as weddings and family gatherings. I could go on and on about all those who are behaving as they should. I live in a large city with many cases of the virus, but social distancing and mask-wearing are the norm.

It's easy to complain about the whiners and overlook the acts of sacrifice and kindness. My father-in-law died last year and my mother-in-law (90) is living independently in her house. This is not a good time to consider moving into communal living, and she has no family in the immediate area. A younger woman who lives down the street from her was laid off from a job as a server at a high-end seafood restaurant. She and her husband have been checking in on my mother-in-law, helping with yard work, shopping for her, taking her to doctor's appointments, etc. No one asked them to do this. There are a lot of people stepping up and doing the right thing now.

I agree in public for the most part people are following the rules. The problem is what's going on in people's homes. There is a reason why the majority of cases are coming from private gatherings. People are letting their guard down at home. Look no further then Thanksgiving and all those that traveled to get together with family. People need to be better at home. Here they have advised us to keep Christmas to your own household.

I know you think I’m pulling my dates out of an orifice but here’s a chart predicting how fast people will be vaccinated and when we can expect to reach the threshold for herd immunity. Can you tell the group approximately which group we will be through by May 1, and when we reach the herd immunity line? And it won’t be like turning off a faucet, virus will still be circulating after that point.

Now, if people believing that it will be May helps people behave in December, January and February, I think politicians will let people do that. But there is a reason Dr. Fauci is talking October, and that next year's Thanksgiving won't be completely normal (although better than this year).

This chart is by the Chair of the University of California - San Francisco Department of Medicine

Why is the rollout linear beginning in January? Is there no built in growth component (increased production, second vaccine available, etc.) in our ability to vaccinate people between Jan 2021 and the rest of the year? Seems unlikely.

Wasn't really the point I was trying to make, but okay.

My mom is a bank manager and when their lobbies were open this summer (they’ve closed again) they would make people take their mask down in front of a camera.. and everyone complained, both about wearing masks and taking them down.
I would complain too. “Wear a mask, except when we tell you not to wear a mask.”

I couldn't find the BC one but did find one from the Washington Post.

Thank you for sharing the above link. Not all data support that it is coming from those types of interactions. I think the "conflicting" conclusions speak to the difficulty in data collection. It seems clear that both public and private interactions are contributing.

But regardless of the source of transmission, I still don't think we can say most people aren't willing to change their behavior. That was what I contended and what Chi84 was replying to.

I think the majority are doing their best. As shown from the amount of traveling for Thanksgiving still not enough doing it. As it's been shown it only takes a few people to spread it to many.

If having lots of restrictions put on everyone is thr solution to the Covid19 nightmare, why does Florida have less cases than New York. According to the NY Times Florida has 40 cases per 100,000 and New York has 41.4. New Jersey is even worse with 48.6 per 100,00 and Pennsylvania at 61.8 per 100,000. Given those numbers in Northern states why can't their residents visit Florida, where science says it is safer, and not return without having to quarantine?

You don’t seem to understand the northeast very well...so I’ll give you a pass there.

But consider this: Florida doesn’t have its tourists. And normally...Florida is full of tourists moving around in close proximity constantly. Florida is a land of transients that aren’t there right now. They’re kinda in “shutdown” by default except for the red hat society.

If you think they should resume tourism...you’ll have a ton of covid. And then Florida will be “desperate” and everyone will be begging for “thoughts and prayers”.

...and Florida isn’t doing that great anyway as is.

We already talked about this being based on the 2 vaccines that are ready. Additional approvals, would change timelines.

The US has like 800 million doses on pre-order from 6 companies and options on 1 billion more. Other countries have weighted pre-order/options differently. I imagine those are already on some sort of fixed delivery schedule, and production efficiencies will have more of an effect on the ability to fulfil other commitments then the countries already at the "front of the line." However, I have seen caution that the production estimates the manufacturers have given are very optimistic, and there is some expectation that what has already been promised will have to be scaled back and not, "oh, we have extra, we can do this faster!" For example, the major manufactures, if all the front-runners pan out, estimate 10 billion doses available by the end of 2021 and have pre-sold as much, but a UK analytics firm only predicts 2-4 billion doses will actually be delivered. This isn't like the US is running the whole show, and so anything extra automatically belongs to us.
