We have some of the world's most effective marketing and entertainment minds available in this country. One only wishes we had leadership that saw the need to mobilize that talent in a similar public health information campaign, rather than just tweeting lies and self-aggrandizing distortions.

It doesn’t help that one of our key ‘leaders’ in entertainment and hospitality has consistently been afraid to show their own characters in masks.

One thing I’ve been struck with is how even Disney’s Covid signage / markings are pretty, well, corporate. For the most part, they could be at the front door of an office building or taped to the floor of a big box store. Missed opportunity, especially to connect with a key demographic in younger kids. As I’m out and about, I consistently see parents wearing masks but allowing their kids to not, for whatever reason. If Disney had attempted to ‘recruit’ kids with a little lighthearted fun from Mickey and the gang, maybe it would have helped the situation?

In my opinion it’s not the kids we need to recruit, it’s the adults we need to recruit, the kids will follow. Besides that, It’s the adults that are in any danger, not the kids.

There is precedent for Disney using its characters in government information and public health campaigns:

(The last few minutes of this one gets a little weird...)

(I wish Walt had taken this message to heart)

Too bad they don't make new episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse anymore. That would have been a great vehicle to reinforce kids about mask use.

Kids are less likely to suffer negative consequences, but they can still be carriers of the disease. And that Kawasaki-like syndrome that has been seen in kids with COVID-19 is scary enough to get them on board too.

I agree with the first part of your statement. In my experience the kids do just fine. At my kid’s schools there‘s little issue with masks. As long as everyone has to wear one nobody cares. It would only be an issue if it was optional and some kids decided not to.

I don’t agree that kids are in no danger. They may not get as sick or as seriously sick in general, but children have died and have ended up in the hospital with serious side effects.

I'd have to agree kids seem to be adapting easier than adults when allowed, once we found a mask that fit well (which seemed to be the main issue we had) and was comfortable for DD12, it just became another accessory available in different fabrics.

Sometimes, you can get to the adults through the kids. At the very least, communicate to them and allow them to feel included. There’s been a huge lack of messaging and disconnect with kids through all of this. They’ve been sitting there watching the world burn, and sometimes parents can’t or won’t find ways to talk about it on their level. Disney should have been finding ways to fill that dead air (just think of the brand building opportunity it could have been!)

I admit, I'm kind of a Deutschophile and was very fortunate to have the opportunity to live there for several years. I love this public health campaign, which roughly translates as "Become a hero also, stay at home- Together against Corona":

Typical dry German humor, but also typical in that their government is genuinely trying get their citizens to do the right thing.

How about this from Malaysia.

It may have something to do with protecting copyrights and/or trademarks.

How many damn times can people repeat the same falsehoods?!?

NOBODY is safe...because everyone can vector. Seriously...some people need to read actual medical opinions on this instead of their crappy cable sources.

Good thing you live in Canada. Since you can't go to WDW, no need for you to be concerned with what decisions are being made in regards to capacity.
Does anyone have any data showing WDW is some sort of super spreader location, or is folks just assuming????

You would think the mainstream media would love to nail DeSantis if they had even a tiny bit of evidence!

That’s not what anyone is saying...

What we’re saying...cause it happens to be the truth...is that it’s rising everywhere and since Florida is NOT doing everything it can...it makes wdw vulnerable.

Whether you like it or not...Disney can’t “magic seal” itself off from the outside world. We’ll also find out that there were of course positive tests amongst employees and customers all along...later. Especially if rapid test are deployed (they will be I would guess). Word will get out.

I apologize if you did not mean to come off as antagonistic and/or obnoxious.

Canadians are however allowed to go to WDW. The decision making and continued US spread informs return quarantining requirements, which significantly impacts feasibility to go. Therefore, the capacity decision making actually matters quite a lot to Canadians!

It kind of doesn't matter at this point though, significant International travel won't return until wide spread vaccine availability.

...no one in the US is restricted from going in practical purposes...

It’s just our collective consciousness and quarantine guidelines result in 50-75% of us from the “heavy hitter” areas won’t touch it.

I had a trip...could have worked it...decided it was irresponsible to put anyone in my area at risk...or possibly carry it to the beach club.

One positive of all this is that most of us are proud of our state governments doing what they have...difficult, unpopular choices at great financial loss to us all...

I know two states where we mostly have a great gratitude/appreciation for our officials...and that is not the normal case.

Give you a hint: Both states start with “New”

I live in Long Island and feel that the majority of people are not big fans of Cuomo. Not trying to start an arguments, Just sharing my personal observations from countless conversations I’ve had
