Sooo... perhaps I'll let the resident Floridians answer this. Who is the governor hoping to please with today's announcements? I know how much of Florida's revenue comes from hotel taxes, so is he hoping that if everything opens up, the tourists will just come flooding back in? Although I can't speak for everyone in the north east, I can tell you that a big reason why nobody around here is planning on a trip to Florida (including the snowbirds) has nothing to do with restaurant and bar capacity, and has everything to do with the levels of COVID-19. Until the state gets a better handle on this, don't expect too many other states to lift their travel restrictions.
The State University System in florida will meet next week to begin outlining the process should furloughs be needed.

I want things to go back to as close to the old normal as soon as possible, but the decision to lift all restrictions is a huge gamble. If it fails, that man will never hold public office again.

FIFY. Like I said before, it blows my mind that so many think getting rid of restrictions will make things better.

Are you saying this not for ulterior motives? Woah cowboy.
I deleted half my post because I thought it got into P-word territory. That was what I left.

However, Depression-era economic and p-word policies have been battling it out in the theoretical ever since. Now things have turned very empirical. COVID is a proxy for so many things. Chickens, roosts and all that. So given that Florida’s options are limited (although some are self-imposed, but there are National limitations too.)

Covid management on so many levels has really been a lose-lose. Everything comes with a price. How much, how long?
How bout dah?
I get that. People keep saying we have to learn to live with Covid but are against any restrictions. I look at how things have gone here where I live. Restaurants and bars have done well with limited capacity and the mask mandate. Outside of theme parks, everything is back to open here and the majority has learn to live with wearing masks and physical distancing. Then you Floriduh, where they think it's the restrictions on why people aren't coming to visit.

Working from phone is awkward. Will delete.
Yes! There seems to have been some update to the forum software that makes replying awkward when there are quotes involved. I have had to switch it to the mode that shows the formatting.

What? I have no idea what you’re suggesting. No clue.
Florida is more dependent on “superficial” tax revenue that basically every other state. That’s by design due to policies that were made decades ago.

It seemed like you were trying to dispute that? If you weren’t, I misread it.☹️

No. I was born in 1969. Florida is known for no income tax. Sales tax is 7.5%. I don’t know what is “superficial” or not. I live here. You don’t. I simply state what is. Whatever you’re trying to argue it’s a red herring because it’s non-sensical.

So Florida is not sales tax dependent...got it.
We’ll move on.

I think another issue with the direction Florida has gone is any business that still wants to maintain strict protocols are going to get even more pushback and conflict from people who see this as the green light to do whatever they want.

I feel for all the front line workers having to deal with those types.
