Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

This may be disappointing to you: but I hope they don’t open and you get compensated.

This isn’t the environment you want. It will be 96 degrees and that’s not gonna be comfy.

Maybe low crowds I guess...hope for the best for you.

It is going to be miserable. We go every summer with the kids and the FL heat combined with the humidity is horrid, but non of the measures put in place are going to change or make the situation worse. Well, maybe the bus situation might be worse, but we are renting a car so...

What I am hoping comes from all the higher numbers and union protests is that Disney actually decides to enforce the rules that it has put into place. My suggestion is to have 2 security guards, not cast members, positioned maybe every 50-100 feet on the walkways enforcing the rules. If people refuse to follow the rules put in place that they have agreed to follow then they need to be escorted out of the parks and told they are not welcome on Disney's private property anymore or maybe until the pandemic is over like the airlines seem to be doing. I also like the Disney do not stand here references rather than the stand here or X's that others use. It is very clear where you are not allowed to stand. It also makes it easier for me to point to the do not stand here marking when others encroach on my family's space. Plus it also is easier for my kids to understand where not to stand. My kids understand the rules and if a sign or marker says do not stand here they absolutely will not.

Surprised about the Disneyland opening delayed. California is doing something good and right for a change but I still think the state is a hellhole.

I think you got it backwards. They are not doing the right thing and it is a beautiful state.

All the leagues are gonna fall by July barring a miracle at this point.

I didn't think that anything could delay this opening, then you went and brought this up. If the NBA deal falls thru, it might make Disney rethink opening. I do feel that some of the reopening is to make the NBA feel that Disney has a handle on things.

While it isn’t at all feasible, I’d buy a front row seat just to watch. But in all honesty, the lack of enforcement will be their undoing. And yes, you can play the scary music and cue the lightning. But it just isn’t at all possible. The pandemic has brought out the best of humanity and dregged up the worst (which we always knew were there but have now been brought into Technicolor).

People will break the rules. Rules aren’t sexy. Sex sells.

I wouldn't be surprised either way. If in the next week or so, things appear to be cresting, it might still work out ok.

If positivity rate/hospitalizations/deaths spike? Then who knows..

You're probably right about this. Even if Disney did delay the opening of the parks, DVC will still be open. Only about a .1% chance Disney would close down DVC again.

Why keep cast members on the West Coast safe, but not on the East?
Why is it safe to visit one park but not the other when both states are experiencing astronomical coronavirus cases?

Yes.

In short.

But the other side of that is I have have no belief Disney wants to open in July at all. My guess is there’s no money in it for them. This is for PR/politics

Without DVC...I think they wouldn’t be open till next year...just a hunch

I would say no. I live in a state that's spiking. Hospitals are not overwhelmed. I think the media overblows a lot of it. We are not walking back anything as far as I know. In March we didn't know a lot about the virus. Now we know it's not very deadly, most people have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic. COVID will be around for a while. We have to learn to live with it.

Hospitals are not overwhelmed... yet. Numerous municipalities are seeing some of their hospitals fill to capacity (Miami, parts of Texas, Arizona). This is not going to look good in a week or two if it keeps up and there will be no choice but to walk things back.

They are not closing because they want to look good, they are only closing because the state government is forcing them to. I see almost 0% chance WDW delays opening.

I'm a So-Cal native that moved out. Although I have issues with a lot of things they do the state is breathtaking. Anyone that doesn't think so needs to take a drive up the coast from San Diego to the border of Oregon.

Yep, sure would. I mean just about every single business that is open is putting their employees at risk. Grocery stores, fast food, etc etc. Employers just have to do what is necessary to try to keep them as safe as possible. Like enforcing the rules. Opening today or opening any day before an effective vaccine is widely in use is essentially the same thing in my opinion. .

I did that drive on highway 1 all the way up to Seattle. California coast is the most beautiful drive I've ever done.

So far it’s only the state of CA that is delaying the DLR opening. The company hasn’t said they want to delay because of safety they said if the state waited until after Juiy 4 to approve their plan it wouldn’t give them enough time to make the opening date.
