I would think and hope the US could handle the situation by implementing appropriate travel bans from the impacted countries, but leave our tourist spots alone for visitors with no issues.

There's been no evidence of an active response from the U.S. You can still travel to Italy, Korea, and Japan.

Once it gets to the U.S. (It has) There is not much stopping it. China is an authoritarian regime that can do what has to be done. The Chinese people are very disciplined and as such have been obliging to extremely invasive restrictions, which have decreased the rate of infection dramatically in China.

It will be next to impossible to get a response anywhere near the scale of China within the U.S, and in addition to that, thus far the government has shown that it is not taking the threat seriously.

Agreed. However, I just don't see the need to actually close the US parks if the US case incidents are so tiny. I would think and hope the US could handle the situation by implementing appropriate travel bans from the impacted countries, but leave our tourist spots alone for visitors with no issues.
I think the question will come if the US incidence is no longer tiny but still not widespread, and the CDC says to avoid large gatherings. Unfortunately, by drawing visitors from all over the country, WDW is a great way for the disease to spread from one locality to another.

I have a trip scheduled in 3 weeks and I’m backing off from making any noncancelable reservations.

Are current crowds being effected at all. When do we expect to see a potential effect.

No and I had some 2020 non work related plans regarding home improvements and leisure travel. At this point, I am in no mood to spend on these matters.
If you’re still working...paper losses should be just that: paper

The stock market is like a casino now...you were never guaranteed what the pumped up value of your stocks were last week.

You know this - of course. Hold tight before cancelling anything.

I think that goes without saying - if you have lost money (even on paper), most practical people will cut down on luxuries until things get better, and will start putting more aside in safe places in case things get even worse.

So if the market doesn't recover quickly from the virus effect - mostly a hit to supply chain - the parks, and any torist related businesses - will suffer.

I think this is the big thing. This economic crisis was “started” by a virus...but it won’t affect Disney in the US with cases (not yet)...

This is about its impact on China and the supply chain. Western businesses are finding - finally- that they’ve gotten in TOOOOO deep with an unstable player...the Chinese are having a hard time keeping a lid on it.

American businesses have taken this ridiculous stance since I was in college:

“We see tremendous growth opportunities in and working with China...we have no clue how things actually function there - if at all - but that’s good enough for us”

Plans are now formulated for a closure of one or both US parks. Paris is following government advice and taking precautions (hand sanitizers are out on every shop counter, in restaurants etc.)

Theres a lot of meetings happening quite a lot.

We're due to visit Paris very soon. Right now I’m hoping for the best and assuming the worst.

I'm due to be there in a week so I have my fingers crossed for both of us.

I believe the State of Florida has indicated that any data regarding potential virus cases being watched in the state is confidential??? :cool:Regarding Iger stepping down it has been suggested he left Disney in good financial situation. Then he would not have to deal with the potential financial fallout :arghh: from the virus.

This is accurate, right down to Coke's artificial sweeteners. The company has made public that concern.

What’s funny is that coke’s flavors were developed at IFF near me..:and the majority of corn is grown in the US...and sugar comes from subtropical regions...

And Chinese shutdowns could cause the fountains to dry up.

Sometimes the truth is easily identified in looking at the obvious

Has Disney started putting letters about Coronavirus in their guest rooms? I visited during the H1N1 outbreak in 2009 and there was a letter covering concerns when I checked into my room.
Good question...

I would guess in my experience that they are probably prepped to do that now. And will start posting those types of notices if there are more US cases early this week.

Their sanitary teams are on mandatory OT...you can be sure. Last thing they need after the 5 o’clock CEO switcheroo is a disruption to their domestic parks in any way

In regards to flu numbers, it surely didn't cause a huge hit in paper loss on my stocks in the last week. Blame it on Corona. Just came back from church. No more handshaking, only nod to each other.
Yep same here this morning, but several years ago they used to state due to flu season we would not "share" the peace by shaking hands for a good 4 months or so.....and its really not a bad idea. If I have a cold I inform others they don't want to shake MY hand per se.
Not too concerned about paper loss on my retirement accounts, if you have over ten years to go you're not touching it anyhow....hopefully! Here's to hoping and praying things get better sooner than later. :angelic:

People are straying off topic again. I was also guilty of same earlier, but will try to get people back on point this time. I know it's difficult to discuss the impact on WDW without discussing the economy as a whole - especially the stock market, but please try. Thank you.

Has anyone seen any specific instances, such as lay-offs, decreased number of guests, people wearing masks and gloves, etc?
I was at the Magic Kingdom yesterday and it was absolutely packed with people. No signs of a pandemic............yet. Give it a few weeks.
