First coronavirus death confined in WA state. In Trump's news conference, doctors confirmed the female who died did not travel or come from another country.

More mongering. The Seattle Tacoma area has a large East Asian population that frequently travels to...you guessed it..East Asia. SeaTac has multiple non stop flights to Japan, Korea, Taiwan (non Communist China), and Communist China Hong Kong, Peking, etc.

As of the 7th of January 2020, 21 people died from the normal flu

Since I began the thread, I assume I’m mostly to blame. And it’s a thread topic I should never have posted in the first place.

Unfortunately, many fellow NYC hypochondriacs such as myself (literally every local I know, as surprising as that may seem to non-New Yorkers) had been discussing it that particular day and I couldn’t help thinking of my upcoming trip and whether it would be cancelled.
That’s not what I’m saying at all...the unknown messes with all of us.

I was just taken aback at how some of the failed stabs at downplaying this by awful national and international leadership were quoted near verbatim on here 2/18. I’m not blaming the messenger...I do blame the morons who are supposed to protect their people.

If you’re attempting to suggest this should not be approached with maximum caution - I think you should volunteer to be a first responder.

What unworthy sources do you get news from?

If you believe some of this is sensational - it is - make sure there isn’t the same on other outlets to take the position of authoring “the counter”

All I believe is that one person died in a nursing Home...but none of the people that have gone in an out of there are contained.

The second part seems of relevance.

I've traveled to the Seattle area every few months for the last 20 years to my company's office in Snoqualmie and have quiet a few coworkers in the area..One who just came back from Shanghai visiting his parents for New Years. So my information is just hearsay ?

I recommend following the mod's request. Claiming that you can determine how someone votes is as offensive as claiming that you can tell them how educated they are, how much they earn or what their ethnicity is. This is no place for making prejudiced judgments.
Again, "Tell me __ and I'll tell you ___" is a common rhetorical device. It was a way of pointing out that this issue (along with many others) has a political component. Regrettable, but true.

For what it's worth, I agree with what you say.

Finally, I am in favor of closing the thread. Or moving it .... to ... the politics subforum. ;)

Just remove my name from it. One step in there and I’ll have to add who knows how many more to that ignore list!

I know. That place is where you go if you want 50% of the community to hate you. And the other 50% to pat you on the back.

Because I do believe that almost everything is political, I do love how this forum manages to avoid it! (Mostly.)

I’m all for differing points of view but when I’m questioned to be anti-American? Nope, leave it to that forum. I have enough anxiety as it is!

No mongering. It's fact.

No...you’re just not looking at this with proper apprehension because you don’t want it to be a big deal?

Is it the stock market? That thing about the Chinese over reporting their economic value/production to the whole world and it being exposed?

Yeah...that’s “bad”. Time to buy gold.

I think the more cautious approach to the virus thing is warranted right now...then back it off and breathe a sigh of relief

Almost had me there, sucked into the whirlpool of the nebulous keyword jumble.

There is and will be an impact from whatever Coronavirus infections occur. Some industries like travel, entertainment, container shipping, and inexpensively manufactured souvenirs with Disney copyrighted forms and logos will experience it more than others. Speculation on market performance and or interruption will drive stocks down.

Others will profit as they attract eyeballs for their media with headlines which may or may not be based on fact.

Just cancelled the Berlin travel expo. One of the largest in the world.

Planned for a year or more and widely attended so all those people are not going to the show.

Lots of containers not being dropped in Long Beach this month. Lots of merch comes in there from China as if you didn't know. I wonder what a gift shop would look like without the gifts? Buy your light sabers now folks, they may be worth much more on e-bay later.

The worst part to me is it is not like a switch flips and they can start unloading ships again. The merch has to be made, shipped and here before that happens. Union is P.O. 'ed about this.

Are they “rejecting” stores?

Or is it all they can afford with the costs of goods rising off the charts?

There has been reporting on this for a decade. But not enough. There’s a “shadow game” going on behind the public eye.
I know of two in my neighborhood that are quite offbeat. They reject name brands, shop at dollar stores and Costco as examples, drive domestic used vehicles but live in posh gated golf communities, are established business professionals, and take their yearly European and Far East vacations staying in 5 star resorts.

It's a fact that 20 more people have died from the flu in Washington State than the Corona virus.
But the Flu started months ago, this thing just started.
I am not a panic person at all, but you can’t compare something that started in September (seasonal flu) to something that just popped up in Washington State.

I don’t think it is a plague or a pandemic, but I don’t think we should assume it is nothing either.

On stock- We lost 11 dollars a share this week on Hubby’s stock/retirement - That is hard pill to swallow for sure though.

NYSE could close trading floor
No domestic travel for Amazon employees

Over something that many are insisting is no worse than seasonal flu? Not trying to be snarky, genuinely wondering what exactly is going on here. Has to be worse than we are being told. If this is all media hype then why are these huge organizations acting this way and impacting their business? I have to say the way the dominoes are falling I would not be shocked to see WDW close for a bit.
