It’s funny, in order to avoid the construction views next year, we booked our BounceBack for POR.Photo update as of Thursday, October 26, 2017. The view from the temporary bridge. The red roof in the left background is one of the cabanas.

It's amazing how fast a high-rise can go up. I used to work in a 20-story building, near the top floor. It was interesting watching a new building being built next to us, and how fast it went up. And, the guys that drive the concrete float "cars" are crazy. No way I would want to drive one of those as close as they go to the edge of the building!
The Disney Meetings Blog posted this photo on Tuesday, October 24th. Although the structure is the same, the colors seem to be different than the original concept art. It seems that gold has replaced the teal spirals cascading down the center of the building.
In my opinion, the building screams Viva Las Vegas!

I actually like that look - and definitely going after their targeted convention market. That concept photo just goes to show how little themed the tower will be compared to the original buildings. It doesn't fit in and looks even more generic then it was before.
There was also a concept image of the lobby released.

DittoViva Las Vegas for sure
Depends on the size of the convention. The one we do has less than 1,000 attendees, and we much prefer self-contained locations, with the hotel and meeting space under one roof. Helps to keep the attendees inside our bubble and generates more networking opportunities. As we have grown closer to that 1,000 mark, we've found it harder to find self-contained properties and have done the occasional convention center meeting with separate hotel. In addition to the psychological impact, it costs more to use a convention center than a hotel ballroom.I don't mind the look I just don't like it compared to where it's going in. That's one of the reasons I like Disney Resorts (moderate +) is the unique theme at each resort. This tower doesn't include that. It's nice looking and the lobby is nice but I get a Hilton or Marriott feel from it and not that Disney twist. I'm holding off final judgement until I see it myself, but my first impression isn't convinced.
I'm also a bit confused as I never got the "convention market" demographic. I've attended multiple conventions and most haven't been attached to a hotel. I expect to have to walk or shuttle to the convention center most of the time. The only requirement for the hotels I stay at is good internet and clean rooms. If I'm attending a convention at Disney World I expect a bit more with that Disney Magic but a short walk from my room to the convention center isn't something to inconvenience me. Then again I'm sure Disney has the analytics to support their decision on the tower.
It's actually been there a couple months nowapparently there's now a Preview Center set up at the resort with new concept art and a preview video. A *certain* website posted an article about it last night, including a video of the video. Surprised to see no discussion of it here
