There are jokes/jabs about how one hides bad architecture by planting ivy or trees. The center of the promotional art is not the new building, but trees...
It crossed my mind that they might be hiding something else behind those trees. There could be other things they're not willing to announce yet, but I'm not holding my breath.

The center trees cover the bulky, boring middle of a hotel tower that is, in all likelihood, a mirror of the side that is shown. While this image was probably generated from the "blueprints" of the tower, any surprise elements could still have been easily excluded from the rendering.

Is it just me, or does the artist's rendering look more like a Las Vegas style hotel rather than an American Southwest or Mexico City inspired hotel?

I had the same thought as well. It's your standard high-rise hotel. Nothing really sets it apart. Swan, Dolphin, The Contemporary, even the Bay Lake expansion all have a unique design. This just screams average to me.

Grade "A" Funny...
Egad, I'm actually going to roll with a negative post for once.

CS has always been at the top of my list, and as others have covered, it truly is a masterpiece of theming that has flown under the radar in numerous ways. I've made it a point on many evenings to sit down on a bench and just take in the lake and the beautifully illuminated El Centro across the water while Florida's nature provides the evening symphony. It's been an absolute slice of heaven.

My gut reaction is that all of that is going the way of the dodo, and that's pretty sad.

Again, as others have mentioned, the scale of the tower compared to the existing structures seems waaaaay off, in addition to the theming of the tower apparently clashing with the existing design harshly. While the floating gardens and bridges do have attractive points in my imagination, the beautiful open expanse of the lake will be only a memory.

I'm going to really miss that.

Considering it's almost due west of Fantasia Gardens, could this be what the balloons were for?

No. @marni1971 has mentioned there is a consideration by Marriott to build a Swolphin tower on that spot taking over the parking lot, tennis courts, and cabanas, but leaving the miniature golf. The foot print of such a tower is larger than the Dolpin's current footprint.

I honestly think that started happening when Art of Animation opened. It is classified officially as a value resort, but it is clearly in a different league than the other values, in terms of quality but more importantly in terms of pricing. I think it's getting harder and harder for Disney to have broad categories of resorts that everything neatly fits into.

I always thought, and I could very well be wrong, that AoA was pricier because all the rooms are suites, no?

At least there isn't a giant animal statue on top of it....:cautious:

Be easy on the place- it's only concept art!

And we all know what's Disney's track record is regarding concept art once we see the finished product or revised art. Just look at Toy Story Land.

.... ah damn :arghh:

I mentioned this elsewhere, but the trees are my favorite part of the concept art. They do a really good job at classing the whole thing up a little bit, and seem to be reminiscent of a lot of Herb Ryman's concept paintings for EPCOT Center. For instance compare the new tower:

That said, I agree that it's bad news when the focal point of your concept is a clump of trees blocking the view. Any 15-story tower would be a tough fit for the hotel's existing theme and buildings, but this one seems especially ill-conceived

In a way, the hotel's impending fate reminds me of Ms Piggy's introduction in MuppetVision 3D:
Stadler: Isn't it lovely?
Waldorf: Yah. Too bad they're going to spoil it with a pig!

Plenty of high rises in Mexico, just not at Coronado. Doesn’t fit in with Casitas, Cabanas or Ranchos.

Besides "Mexico" I don't know what any of those other things are.

FWIW. I have never, nor will ever stay at Coronado Springs. I just thought it was a pretty picture.

So, basically, it doesn't effect me....therefore...it's not a big deal and you guys are all wrong and stop your bellyaching.

Those are the building sections. Sort of how cbr has Aruba Jamaica... Ooh I want to take ya..... Sorry that is a bad habit.

Anyway the theming of the resort is really incredible and has always been my go to moderate, when I could still afford moderates, or value...
You can stand anywhere around that lake and just scan around and just admire it. The place is huge but the main building and the pool are the only things that sort of stick out bit for good reasons.

I'm excited to see more dining options because the ones there were already superior to any other mod or below. However, I am on the fence about this new structure.

You just lost all rights to complain for when you see this 15 story tower from Kilimanjaro Safaris.
