So this is themed to Spain, rather than what americans call 'spanish'?
I guess in that respect it's not too different from putting up a hotel tower themed to a region in France next to the Caribbean Beach Resort. Spain was a colonial power in the region the rest of Coronado Springs takes its theming from, and France was a colonial power in the Caribbean. If you were going to look for cultural similarities between former colonies and their colonisers, both Catalonia and the French Riviera would also be weird choices for both the US Southwest/Mexico and the Caribbean, respectively!

The events planning video above has spread some confusion in my mind. It seemed to give the impression that the new restaurant/lounge area being built in the middle of the lake is a facility for those attending conventions (with dedicated event spaces etc). Is this actually going to be available for non-convention guests at the resort or other Disney guests? Does anyone know?

It's a restaurant. It's going to be available like a regular table service restaurant.

It's a tad classier than your standard Disney table service, to appeal to convention-goers.

Not to mention the entire video is directed towards convention organizers. They're going to describe everything as con-centric.

I get that, it was just that the text overlay during the restaurant fly-through referred to networking spaces, private meeting spaces etc. Plus the seating capacity I have seen referenced is quite low, so I am wondering if this space is going to be rented out to conventions rather than being generally available.

Edit: just found a touring plans article saying villa del lago will seat 60 guests plus designated group areas seating an additional 90 people -- so presumably 40% of tables for regular guests and 60% for conventioners.

That last piece of concept art Steve posted looks like it shows a check-in desk to the right hand side.

EDIT: Or is it a bar? Now I'm not sure.

EDIT 2: It does look like a bar. One would hope all 2400 potential guests are not all forced to one reception desk.

I'd be happy to check-in at the bar while I check-in for my room. I"ll have a martini and a room with a pool view, extra olives please.

Huh I wonder what's been upgraded. Did we finally move away from Wireless G and move to AC and better client handling?

I believe that the new lobby is set up a little like Animal Kingdom Lodge, in that you enter on the second floor, but a staircase in the back leads you down to the second level of the lobby, which I believe, is where the pictures bar would be located.
It would appear that's been hiding in plain sight this whole time! Looking in the back of the concept art labeled as "entrance gallery" in the video, there are some guests leaning against the railing looking down into the lobby below. The big multi-story light fixture is also visible beyond them.

Looking at the art from the lower level, the railing is rendered in more detail, but the light fixture appears to be the exact same

I don't remember there being a significant grade change between the existing parking lot/road and the lake, so it will be interesting to see how this gets incorporated into the overall site. It should make for a much more dynamic experience than the old flat design
