BREAKING!!!!* More info from Disney Meetings Blog...

Man, those pathways are *lit*!!

*Am I blogging it right?

I think it is funny that they make it feel like a business/convention adults only hotel in the video but we all know kids will be running down those pathways screaming with the Mickey Ice cream bars melting down their arms because this hotel is still smack dab in the middle of Walt Disney World and no matter how beautiful they make it that will never change. Looks nice though.

I imagine that the tower rooms are going to be pricier that the motel-ish room, thus reducing the number of children in the tower. I think it'd be a lot like the Swolphin now. Sure, there are some children, but with no real child-friendly facilities like a play spot, and with monstly conventioneers, the child-run-amok issues are greatly diminished.

Clearly, that's the model they expect most of their conference people to use. I only hope it works better for them than it did for my party, where 25% of us couldn't charge anything to her (Not-so-)MagicBand.

Do you have a lot of Magic bands on your account? Once you surpass a certain number of active bands it can start to cause problems in the internal systems. Also one family that rarely travels with anyone but themselves having accounts for each person oh Lord the problems I've had to fix with that.

So...they are basically showing that the main lobby area will look like that of one of their cruise ships...okay... :hilarious:

I actually feel like I see a lot of direct inspiration from Barcelona and Spain in general here as opposed to the Mexican feel of the old Coronado springs.... The color glass and lamps/chandeliers especially..... looks really nice and a good theme for a higher end business hotel.

Nope. Nobody has more than 2 active bands each. They all have their own accounts, though, but were linked and active on the reservations.

Once again... I like the look of it in the new video. It's modern while keeping with the Coronado theme.

Will check-in and concierge be moved from the existing location to the new tower.?

Or maybe it's going to be an innovation in resort design where the lobby and front desk (by day) will double as a lounge and bar (at night). :)
This would make a lot of sense for a conference destination. People tend to stack up around the lobby waiting to meet each other. Likewise, referring to bars by name is annoying when people don't know them yet. It's very nice to be able to just say 'we're in the lounge by the check-in'.

It’s better now than it used to be. Our family of four probably has 20+ and haven’t had issues in the last 2 years

That's what I thought at first, but I looked more closely and it seems to be a bar - with barstools, a single bartender, and bottles lined up against the back wall. That said, that bar looks sooo pretty! :)

That said, would this be the biggest use of space for a resort bar on property? It's enormous and even has an balcony area overlooking the bar. It really seems much more like a lobby space, to your original point. Hmm.

Then again, I could see this being a great private party area as part of a convention.

Bars exist in lobbies. Look at the cruise ships. Didn't the new Aventura (down the road at Uni) open with a bar practically in the lobby?

Even with this new video, I'm sorry to complain, but one of the things that I liked so much about the Walt Disney World property was, aside from The Contemporary, it's lack of high rise hotels. The Wilderness Lodge is about as high as I like my hotels. There are dozens of 15 story towers scattered all over Orlando. When you went to Disney, you escaped all of that. Now two of the Moderates are going to have obtrusive towers? Sorry. No enthusiasm for either, nor Bay Lake Tower for that matter. The just announced nature themed hotel is more my style and what I came to expect from Disney.

I guess something for everyone? Though I do feel bad for the guests who have to live in the shadow of the tower.

BTW, I concur with the posters upthread who mentioned the desires of the conventioneers plus the seeming current preference of many guests for less-sprawling resorts. I wonder if this is also a preference of the car-free DME folks? I know that the sprawling resorts sometimes feel less convenient to me when I don't have a car. It could all be part of the nefarious plot! :)

I do agree that the mid-rise places seem to strike a good balance.

I still say the hotel looks more like modern mid eastern rendition than themed to colonial Mex-USA.
These lamps scream , towers and details scream "Turkish mid eastern" to me.
