one more thing....

Grizz and the troops have always displayed their dislike for Meet & Greets, The Aladdin and Dino Rama spinners, Mission Space....and on and on.

What you are saying above is that WDW must take into consideration all audiances, but truely, the purists just want them to take into consideration their own tastes.

I do not think a meet and greet or spinner ever hurt one of the D-troops.....I have always wondered why these attractions, which may have a minority fanbase similar to that of CoP, see such attacks from the troops, but the troops do not like it when the tables are reversed.

That Captain Cortex at Intercot is continuing to irritate me with his know-it-all attitude.

Even if it's not General Grizz, anyone who has already seen his posts at Intercot might agree that at least his posting style and attitude are similar to those of Grizz.

He needs to realize that the CoP ain't goin' anywhere and that his sources are dead wrong! And if he won't reveal any sources behind his info, then he's an immediate liar!

And it pains me to see that people like him take advantage of the Internet to spread such mass hysteria!

I'd also like to point that at D-Troops one time earlier this year, Grizz said that his sources told him that the CoP would take its "final spin" this October. Obviously, it's October already and it hasn't happened! What a couple of liars Grizz and Cortex are...unless Cortex is Grizz in disguise, then what a liar he is!

Things like this really make my blood boil!

That's the same kind of crap people are always laying on D-Troops.

Give me one good example of when Grizz bashed Mission Space. Grizz likes the ride, but thinks that it could be better. Like with more usage of animatronics, a better qeue line, ect. While he doesn't hate meet n' greets in general, he does not like it when they replace a good attraction like CoP and Timekeeper with one. Its just a waste. They could do such much more, like replace the god forsaken thing with someting better.

That's all I'm going to say. I don't want to get into another D-Troops debate.

And disneyphillip: ouch, that had to hurt.

I'm not sure why more usage of animatronics would make Mission: Space a better ride. I'm not sure why more usage of animatronics would make any ride a better ride. Animatronics are just one (of many) vehicles with which to tell a story. Their mere presence does not make an attraction better.

How the heck would you incorporate animatronics into a small simulator attraction?!?!?

Sorry, I should've gone into more detail there. Not on the ride itself, but maybe in the qeue like a robot or astronaut or something.

Generation: IMO, animatronics do make a ride experience more entertaining. They certainly make the fine line between a Disney ride and a Six Flags. I find them very entertaining especially ones like SIR.

Let's see... like the one at CoP? IASW? Timekeeper? Space Mtn? SSE? CBJ? UoE? JC?

Should I go on?

:p

how can you make CoP que line any better, its just like other attractions that use the same system, the number of people that they have seats for in the theater is corraled into a pod and then when the theater opens they go in, same goes for dumbo. IASW cant have a better que that area is such a bottle neck that any more expansion would make that area worse, thank god that they converted the old skyway to a stroller area and it made that area such a vast improvement. JC is fine because that like many of the attractions were built before the thought of having the que being part of the attractions, like splash mtn. Space mnt. has a great que because in the hottest of days you at least get to stand in a hallway with air conditioning. man would i love to have had that when i worked at the many adventures of winnie the pooh or snow white or dumbo

I love the fact that all of those attractions (with the exception of Space Mountain -- an extremely massive E-Ticket) include more than one animatronic (some dozens).

So true!

BTW: Its, "FORGET YOUR CARES and join us bears in the great out doors." ;)

Ahhh, thanks. I always thought that was kinda wierd. Never saw the Vacation show live, but I've seen "Disneyland Fun" (loved it when I was little!) and got the HCOE Disneyland CD a while back, and thats how it sounded on the CD. I definately see thatfitting, because it was in Disneyland Fun as well. Thanks!

I still miss... the greatness of AMERICA SINGS--

I second this sentiment! Possibly my favorite Disney attraction of all time. I'm very happy the soundtrack is available so I can relive it regularly.

Okay, how many themeparks in the world have a combination centrifuge and simulator? How many themeparks have impeccible theming? How many have Mickey?

There is more to a themepark than if it has animatronics. I can see animatronics at my local putt-putt. Disney is more than it's animatronics and quequ(? I hate that word) lines. Anybody can do that.

The D-Troops just have a really hard time of realizing that Disney is NOT ABOUT NOSTALGIA!!! Disney runs deeper than that.

Disney is most certainly about nostalgia. To see that, all you need to do is notice how often their advertising relies on it, especially for aniversaries and re-releases. How many times is the 1937 movie Snow White advertised as "the one that started it all"? And how about the whole theme of 100 Years of Magic? Or the "Remember the Magic" theme for the 25th (you know, the one with the Pepto-Bismol castle)?

Of course, as I have said before, the MK itself (like DL) is designed with a balance between the nastalgic (Main Street USA and Frontierland) and the fastastic or futuristic (Fantasyland and Tomorrowland).

The thing is, as you said, Disney IS deeper than nostalgia. It is also broader. But that is not the same thing as saying that nostalgia isn't a critical PART of the company and its popularity.

This is all that I have ever heard the troopers/"progressives"/traditionalists/grizzlybears say. They never said (at least Griz and the others I recognize) that new things or improvements could not be made -- Griz especially looked for that (like with Wishes and PhilHarmagic, both of which he liked and said so). They only pointed out the value of some things from the past.

And I agree with them here. The nostalgic IS important, and has been even since the beginning. And it remains so today. Parents want to experience new things with their children, but they also cherish balancing that with sharing things with them that they experienced with their parents. Don't tell me that that is not a major influence in return visits to DL, and now MK.

The thing is, Disney has to keep that delicate balance. Which things to keep, and/or how to "update" them is wonderful and healthy debate; but the value of nostalgia in general to the Disney organization is clearly vast and deep itself .

I love to see the debate here, where so many people know so much; but I cannot understand why both sides have to get hurtful so often. Disneyphilip, all Gregory did in his most recent post was to quote you in a way that showed why he disagreed with you. Nothing to report, as far as I can see there; but I do think that hurtful personal language from either side should be reported -- or better yet not said. Just discuss facts and opinions.

My two cents again, which probably means I have given about six cents by now... but anyhow.... :lookaroun

Of course nostalgia is important to the guests and will be utilized fully by the advertising divisions, but nostalgia alone should not be the reason for keeping an attraction beyond its useful age. When the attraction no longer benefits the bottom line and costs more to maintain and keep open than is feasible when noone is in line, then it's time to axe it and look for the next opportunity to create traffic.

WDW is not a museum

WDC uses nostalgia to their advantage.....it makes people think of the better times in their life, when they were younger, when life was less complicated.....

It does not take an old attraction to enforce the nostalgic feeling.....

Progress will continue, and hopefully, new "classics" will be born. My biggest complaint with all of this is that unless a replacement is identified, why close or seasonal attractions. If there is a new idea for WOL, close it and get on with it, ditto for COP (although I do have a soft spot there, and visit every trip).

The worst possible fate is to close it and hang a for rent sign on the door, or leave it as a vacant duckpond for 10 years (20K)
