coolers?

A friend of mine (its not me, honest) is going to The World this weekend. She used to 'sneak' a cooler into the park to defray the cost of drinks. But now with the heightened security she's concered about them not letting her in with the cooler. I thought it was a general rule that coolers weren't allowed so I don't know what will happen. But I told her I'd check it out.
Any one have any experience with this?
(its not me, heck, I feel guilty leaving WDW to go to Universal for a day, I'd feel even worse trying to sneak a cooler in!!)

I think it would be the size of the cooler .. I keep my video camera, tapes and batteries in one of those soft padded coolers instead of a camera bag which is just a bit larger then a six pack cooler. so I guess if she was sneaking in awhole lot then they might say something. I laughed about your sneaking off to Universal ( ugh) thats why I love this board more then any other ..there are no post about Universal and the other parks ..this is just WDW :) if someone asked me I would say there were no other places to go in florida ..or the world :animwink: so maybe if its a small one ..and just a few drinks they wont say anything at all

cool, thanks.
And I guess there are other people out there like me, huh. I love the coasters at universal and having grown up with the books, suess landing is really cool, but the entire time I'm there, I feel guilty and by the end of the day I'm rushing to get back to The World! I usually get back into things by enjoying dinner and fireworks at Epcot.
I'm sure there are all kinds of neat things to do in Orlando, but all I need is Walt Disney World!!

Well, I'm not so sure about coolers but when I went a few weeks ago, we all brought bottles of water, sandwiches, snack type foods, etc.....and when we went through security to have our bags checked, most of the security guards either did not say a thing or joked about how they wanted a sandwich! So, I guess it really depends.

I know this is a little bit off topic, but I just wanted to say something about the Universal thingy. A friend of mine (although after his comment which I am about to tell you, he has certainly gone down on my list) who is also a travel agent says to me the other day while I was discussing my Disney plans with him:

"I would never spend the whole time at Disney. Bush Garden's admission is cheaper. I'd go there instead."

This guy has no clue:veryconfu

Anyway, back to the topic. Yes, I'd feel guilty too. Actually, the first time I went to WDW as an adult I thought about how much $$$ I would spend eating and how it would be cheaper to pack lunches. Well, I took a big cooler to the resort, had a fridge and bought cold cuts and bread for sandwiches. Wanna know what we did? We ate at the parks, every single day and loved it! The ham was wasted, and we threw it out when we went to leave, unopened! It is just more conveinent, tastier and all around better to eat at the parks and resort restaurants. Now all we carry is water bottles cuz I still can't feel good about a $2.50 Dasani! LOL!

I wouldnt waste a minute of my time any where else heck texas has plenty of theme parks if that was all I cared about. Its the magic of WDW there isnt any place that compares !!! your right he has NO clue!! and back to the cooler topic .. Disney may frown on your taking in your own food and drinks ..but I really think even they understand trying to save a little bit one way so you can spend more there on something else like ohhh t-shirts !!!

I have a couple of "envelope" style coolers that I bring with me. I freeze juice bags to use as ice, and throw in one unfrozen and one bottle of water in each. Then I stick it in my backpack or tote.I did this last month with no difficulty.

BTW...this board does have a Universal, Sea World, etc forum. This is a relatively small group, so most of us spend time on many other forums...I usually check the "new since your last visit" threads, and stop to read any posts by "buddies", or any that look interesting...sometimes they're both! ;) (just kidding guys...none of you post lame posts!)

Thanks for all the info. I should have been more specific, it'll be one of those 'soft-side' coolers. I guess a more accurately it would called a big lunch bag. Sounds like she won't have too much trouble though. She'll be happy. She can't live w/o her diet coke, and if she had to pay for the amount she drinks in the parks, she'd be broke...fast!
Funny about the food comment, I think a big part of the fun is eating in different places. If you need to save money, that's one thing you can't argue with. But I love eating in the parks, even if its only a hamburger and fries. I can have a ham sandwich any time, but its only when I go to Disney World that I can eat so many different things!!
Thanks again.

No comment about the coolers, but about the visit to Universal.

Whew! I'm glad you said you felt a little guilty about to Universial. I thought I was the only one with that problem.

When we visited in 2000, (my family and in-laws) we spent two days at Universal. This year, the same group is going and the others want to repeat two days at Universal and IOA. I feel guilty about going there, like I am betraying Uncle Walt! But I don't want to be a party pooper so I will go. But I would never spend my last two days over there. Those last couple of days I'm goin' to Disney World!

213 days to go!

Nope, Tink. You guys are NOT the only ones. Actually, I have a conffession to make:

In the ten years we have been going to Orlando we have never (NEVER!!!!) been to Sea World, Universal or any place else. The first time we went down, we stayed off property, but every single time since then, we have stayed at Disney and just like you, park the van at the resort (ALL Star!!) and never move it. Well.....sometimes we drive it to FW to see HDD, but that's it! We are moving down to Orlando in Novemeber, and one of the things I am looking forward to is visitng Disney so often that I won't feel bad about taking the kids to Sea World one day, LOL! Universal is not for me. We got their "vacation planning video" (Disney wanna-bes!) and it disgusted me. Besides, all their rides seem to be thrill rides which we don't do.

So.....you are far from alone!!!!

lucky you!!!!! we talk about moving there, dream about it and just might do it when hubby retires (that way maybe he can finally have his dream of being goofy) Now I have a confession . I have a sister ..she and her family live in Jacksonville, in all the years we have been going we never once went to see them ...hey if they wanna see us we will be at one of the resorts!!! Thanks 2much2do for making me feel less alone :)

We have family down there too. So does my husband. You wanna know what we do? We tell them all which park we will be at and have them come and meet us there, LOL! My family has to drive two hours from Bradenton, but they do it cuz they know we'll never go see them, LOL!!!!!!!!
PS They are kinda Disney freaks too, although not as bad as we are! ;)

2much2do and tink:
You guys are great! Its cool to find others that think the same way. I have to admit, I'm a thrill ride junkie. I've been to Cedar Point to ride the Millennium Force and loved every second of the ride. The rest of the time was spent saying "its not Disney" I know they don't even try to be Disney, its an amusement park, and a great one, but still....its not Disney. Universal's IOA has taken a good step, their theming is much better and there's more to do but (everyone now...) its not Disney!!
I don't have any desire to go anywhere else in Orlando. The last time we were there with my parents, on the way back from IOA (getting back as quickly as possible!) they wanted to look for someplace to eat....not on Disney Property!!! I was appalled!!
Anyway....thanks again for the info, I've passed it on to my friend and she's very relieved .:)

ok just cuz the topic is spose to be "coolers" .. let me say .. coolers a few times! But what I want to say is maybe we are normal and its the rest of the non-disney people that are ab-normal :) and Jedi tks :) I agree.. my could you imagine the nightmare of being married to someone who isnt WDW obessesed? when people ask me if I went to Universial or bush gardens and I tell them no they are just shocked. no one seems to really understand that you could spend months at the Disney parks and not do it all, even people I know who have been. they dont see the things I see ... its not just the rides and shows. my crazy sister has told me they are taking a cruise in June and its not a disney cruise, I said If I had to take a cruise it would at least have a Mouse!!!!! some times being so obessed with WDW can make you feel like your just not right in the head :) well glad I seem to have company in that area and lucky to be married to someone just as crazy as I am !! and as for Coolers I recommend one with a Mouse on it :) see still on topic here ..just barely ..but still on topic

Oh my goodness, I love this thread. We should rename it, though. "How deep does your Disney obsession go?"

I am married to a man who is not as crazy as I am. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a nut, I am an 11 and DH is only about an 8. But, he still loves Disney, enjoys the entire trip, looks forward to the next one, has no desire to leave the World, and (and this is the best part!) has decided he wants to move us all down there!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

You are right, Tink. So many people I know go to Disney and say how great it was, etc., but just aren't crazy like I am!!!!!!

I do sometimes think I must have severe depression or some other disease to be this way. I have to try not to cry at the WDW commercials, and now those McDonald commercials are doing it to me too! Today, my four year old asked when we were going to Disney. I said in seven weeks, to which he replied "That's too far!". I agree. Any day other than today is too far for me!!!!
