Connections Cafe and Eatery

I mean, Journey Of Water is under construction, which means there are finalized plans and art... Show us some details from that....What is to come... Something people are really interested in. We have all seen the image of the Walt statue for Dreamers Point, how about an overview of the area it is going in... What is around it... The interactive Fountain...I guess the wishing tree thing has already been value engineered out of the project, but rather than talk about a sign, talk about what we are going to see when the walls come down... Give us something to look forward to and be excited about...
no one will ever be excited about a sign.... no matter how you explain it with corporate buzzwords and word-salad.
I appreciate the font...I really do... but this is not worth posting about.
Well a lot of people were pretty excited -- in the wrong way -- about the removal of the purple signs. So, there's that...

I mean…don’t read his IG if you don’t like what he posts? He’s pretty consistent in what he thinks people want to read. This is a thread about Connections. He posted about the new marquee. If that is not exciting, feel free to visit the coronavirus threads for more excitement.

He’s pretty consistent The marketing intern is pretty consistent..

Fixed it for you.

I don't read IG. But, I do read WDWMAGIC forums. Seems if it shows up here, it's fodder for discussion. I'm sure the imagineers working on AI and advanced robotics are envious of TheZach's IG account, after all.

I think a sign is the most excitement we can expect from this thread right now lol

Maybe GotG will have more exciting theming details? Let’s hope. $450 million better have paid for premium quartz tiles. Not that fake crap like Gringotts has. Gringotts better look like Walmart compared to GotG!

Meanwhile the BurgerFi down the road has a sign very much like the one that now sits on Connections Cafe. The difference, of course, is that I don't expect BurgerFi to deliver world-class design.
But that's the thing - BurgerFi COULD deliver world-class design. That's called innovation.
Compare restaurant designs of the 70s and 80s (Long John Silvers, custom themed McDonalds restaurants, etc;) to the mass produced minimalism of today (*cough* World of Disney remodel *cough*) Even food delivery systems and packaging. REAL art happens everywhere.

But that takes work, effort, risk of failure (and of course, increased costs)

I like behind the scenes pictures like this too - but they're supposed to ENTICE and ALLURE "lookit my CVS sign" does neither of those. Contrast that to a partial closeup of some custom floor tiling or unique lighting fixture alluding to the store's design and concept... Something that would peek at the real design taking place. No, he went with the marquee which indicates there's not much in the store's design to trumpet.

The sort of reactions these posts about shops and restaurants are a bit much for me, particularly in the context of how people talk about the original EPCOT Center. People will wax lyrical about the genius of Centorium and Communicore, then complain about Creations and Connections being too confusing and for using alliteration. Centorium's early 1980s department store look was appropriate, yet Creations' 2020s Apple Store look is too generic. The use of a uniform design style was good in 1982, but boring and lazy in 2022, etc., etc.

I am very critical of a lot that Disney is doing these days, but, good lord, the reactions to Zach's posts are over the top.

I mostly agree with you, but I do think part of the reason his posts get the reaction they do is because they themselves are over the top. They're full of hyperbolic language waxing poetic for paragraphs about something very simple -- they'd likely go over better if they were just straightforward "Here's what we're working on next!" type posts.

I do agree with that. I'm honestly surprised he (or 'someone') hasn't adjusted the tone a little given the reactions.

Still, I am kind of use to hyperbole from Disney so this kind of just makes me shrug.

Eh, we're just having fun with the names. I don't think it can be argued that I'm generally pretty positive about Connections, Creations, Moana...wait...MoNations?

Have we gotten so cynical on here that we have a zero tolerance policy for him to be passionate about the things he does?

I get it. Over-written paragraphs about details and backstory etc. can clearly become annoying to people on here, but isn't it possible that they're also just the byproduct of a guy who geeks out over what he gets to do on a daily basis?

Look, I'm not exactly the biggest Riddley fan (probably out of a misguided jealousy that he has the job he has), and yes, I've made a few cracks on his behalf here and there, but it's clear he has unfairly become this board's punchline/scapegoat for any and all disdain for Epcot.

It's all just a bit much sometimes.

Yeah, I have to remind myself that sometimes the public spokesperson has a job to do that's mandated by someone who has little if any decision making power about what happens or gets built.

In many ways, I don't see him treating his Instagram as a "personal" account (ie, something he posts to on his own whims) but more as a corporate mouthpiece that he's allowed to add his own flair to.

So, if anyone is to be hated here, hate his boss.
