Yesterday I kept thinking to myself, "I know October 2nd means something, but what is it?!" Then I realized it was the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half!!! Woohooo... I just wanted to say congrats to all those who went out for it. I can't wait to hear about the course and see those rare character pictures!

CONGRATULATIONS! :sohappy:

Thanks, Holly. I just got home and as soon as I can get the clothes in the laundry, I will start working on a photo/trip report.

edit: Done! http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=639206

That was the toughest of the 5 half marathons I have now done!
Doug,
Seriously... it beat me down. Granted, I had been on vacation in WDW for 4 days so I was tired going in... but the 75 start temp and the 90% humidity was brutal at times. Just ask the lady who pulled up on mile 12.5 right as you were going to the wodden part of the board walk and blew chunks. OMG... it was horrible.

I didn't think the temperature was that bad for me. (I'm a native Floridian and have been training in weather pretty similar to Orlando.)

Did anyone think that mile 11 - 12 seemed a bit longer than the others? I talked with a couple leaving Epcot, and they seemed to think the same. Maybe it was because it was a narrow path & we couldn't run as fast... Just trying to see if anyone else felt the same way.

Oh, 75 start and a 70 degree finish was nice compared to the 90+ up to 101degree temps I ran in all summer. It was just the combination of the 70's, plus the humidity and the fact that I started the race already sore, tired and mentally challenged to stay focused in some areas. I saw more people that I have before pulling up with cramps. I had one in my left ham and my right quad, but I knew if I stopped to address them, it was all over.

I didnt think 11 and 12 were longer, I think it was just the narrow streets as you mentioned. Plus, with all the turns in DHS, it just made it mentally seem longer.

I had a great run (1:59), being from Florida I thought the weather was the best we've had for a LONG time and I was very happy. The after party was crazy busy, I'm glad my wife and son didn't want to buy tickets (they waited at the Finish line for me), I traded my drink ticket and got my family two Fish and Chips. We went over to EPCOT the next day and had a blast.

I wore my Garmin and it says I ran a total of 13.32 miles. That stinks, next time I'll hug those corners better. :ROFLOL:

This was my first half marathon - but I finished in 3:31 and was very proud. I'm a walker so I knew my time would be slow, but I really pushed myself with this one. I agree, mile 11 did seem long but it didn't help that the CM posted as you were leaving the Studios said she didn't know where mile 12 was located!

Congrats to all finishers! I'm looking forward to January and hopefully some improvement in my finishing time. :)

Hey all. I don't have an offical report becuase, well, I just ran.

As I am still on vacation, I have not had time to sift through the data, but my Garmin was set to record a 31.1 mile run and it timed me at 2:27 (from the start line) and my chip time was 2:28 (I forget the seconds) so it sounds like I went 13.2 as well.

The last mile did not seem long to me. DHS is a royal pain, I had to break stride so many times becauase it was so crowded. It really took the wind out of my sails. I was forced to walk twice, just because I could not get around people. Re-starting made that last mile seem longer (And running by the Beach Club pool at the end is just sick :) )

I think I stated this already, but it wasnt crowded when I went through there and had to break stride, but I will say that the narrow streets, the hard turns and the choppiness of that section were hard mentally.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation. I need a vacation from my vacation. :)

I didn't stop to talk to any CM's. Good thing though! Good luck again in January - I hope to run my first marathon then too!

I'm running my first full marathon in Jan too, let me tell you, I'm a little nervous about it. When I crossed the finish line Saturday night I was so happy it was over. In January that finish line will be only HALF way, (shudder).

94 days......Let the training begin....... :hammer:

Figment,
I am doing the 1/2 in January and am SURE I will have walk a bit of it. My goal is actually to run 3 walk 1 run 3 walk 1 etc. I am really worried about meeting the Disney pace of 16:00 once I figure in bathroom stops etc. Did you find tht walking you were able to meet the requirements easily and how strict were they on the 16:00 pace? Thanks for any info!

I saw people dashing off to the port-a-potties on the side of the road and hopping out of them in a minute. There's plenty of restrooms, but I didn't have to use any of them.

For the Wine and Dine Half, I know there were some people that didn't make time, but I know someone who walked the previous 1/2 in January and made time just fine. She even said she had time to take pictures of everything. I think just plan on trying to walk a 15:00 mile. The 16:00/mile rule takes place after the last person has cross the start line (at least that's how someone here explained it to me), so if you're a bit ahead of that you've got some extra time. :D

Good luck!

Congrats everyone! It sounds like it was a lot of fun. I had the same complaint last year about the TOT13K having too narrow a path in many spots and being poorly lit in spots, so unfortunately, that seems like something they can't get quite right. But to be able to run through WDW at night is such a cool thing that it's worth it!

You will be fine for January! I am not a runner (or very athletic) so this was a big distance for me to conquer. I pushed myself harder than I had ever walked (thanks to a boyfriend with long legs who set a fast pace) but even with walking the entire way, I was not close to being swept in the slightest. I think we started with a 14:30 pace, got to the 5K mark at a 15:00 pace, 15:30 at the 15K mark and finally slowed to a 16:00 pace by the end. And there were still many, many people behind us when we finished.

I find that I tend to walk faster when I'm at the Endurance events just due to the fact that I get caught up in the excitement and quicker paces of those around me. So even if you find yourself training slower than 16:00, I guarantee your pace will improve when thousands of people are running/walking beside you. :) I've been participating in Disney Endurance Events for 2 years and have never had a problem with finishing so I know you'll be fine! I always tell people if I can do it, anyone can! :)

And as far as bathroom stops, let me tell you I have a bladder the size of a walnut and my biggest fear was needing to use the facilities during the race, and getting held up. As long as you make a pit stop or two before you get into your corral, you shouldn't need to stop during the race. I hope that helps alleviate some fears for you!

I only did the 5K and only stopped at the water breaks. The energy level was incredible. You all have me fired up to try a half. Can't wait!

It definitely seemed long for me.

I know in the full Marathon, I have had pacers tell me that the mile going through the Boardwalk area is a bit long. And my watch definitely was about 1/10th of a mile off for a bit over in that area.

That will be my first full, too, and just like you, the finish of this race has me a little worried. I can remember at the end of the ToT 13ks I did in years past being able to really push it at the end. With only a half a mile left in this one, I had to take a walk break. I was so freaking tired.

Like you said, though...94 days. That should be plenty of time to be in shape to make the full EASY, right? :lookaroun
