Condition of the Tomorrowland Speedway

Electric cars? Way too expensive and don't know even make sense in the real world.

Gas is still way too cheap and electronic c cars are no more energy efficient than gas. In many cas, less.

By the way, I think the Speedway s the worst and most wasted space attraction at all of WDW.

Hong Kong is electric. DLP just went hybrid with new onboard computer controlled cars. At least do that and make it look more fitting.

It really has stuck to its Grand Prix 1980 theme.

Gas is only cheap in the USA. I guess that's why Paris switched to electric.

Whenever this attraction is discussed people do mention that they remember taking their children on it and I think for an under 10, the chance to drive for the first time is amazing to them. But Legoland does it better with their driving school.

I like the idea of re-theming to Sugar Rush though, would it work alongside Wreck-it-Ralph 2?

IF they do a Wreck-It Ralph 2 (hasn't been officially confirmed, though it and a Big Hero 6 sequel seem possible), I don't see why they wouldn't include at least a little of Sugar Rush, as the relationship between Ralph and Vanellope was the key to that movie; you have to at least mention it.

I think if they decide to keep it, maybe GM should sponsor it and make the cars electric, give the cars some special anti-collision technology so you can't actually hit the car in front of you, because that also happens too frequently (yes, I realize some people prefer that, but technically it's not allowed).

The single biggest mistake ever made at EPCOT was to rely on corporate sponsorship in order to operate. Seriously, if they do anything there most certainly is enough money in the coffers to make these improvements sans sponsorship. If they are operating so close to the bone that sponsorship is a requirement in order to be able to improve an opening day ride then maybe it is time to have a going out of business sale...

"But the children! This is THEIR tomorrow!" .

"Ride-splaining" is a great term.

Each time I walk past this attraction I always want to ask the people standing in the queue why, with all the other awesome stuff around them, they are waiting in line for the Tomorrowland Speedway. Then my kids see it, and beg to ride it. Then I become one of those people standing in the queue.

How is this ride still here? I've read every post in this thread and we have yet to have one defender. Everyone I know goes and walks bye it. I can't quite understand this ride. They are all about "building next gen experiences" and every time an attraction is built, they move away from things like this. Yet this giant honking smelly loud thing is still there. Seriously, look at the size of that space.

I don't feel one way or another about TS, and I did like the earlier suggestion about a redesign into Sugar Rush Racers, but it seems to me that the large area that it occupies would be perfect for a new MK E-ticket, or even two smaller D-tickets. TS is probably only second to JC at MK in total land space used by an attraction, which, to me, means that this area should be used for a signature attraction for MK.

That's enough space for a future expansion for Tommorowland at this point.

TS is a ride that we always pass on by. Maybe we will do it again once my daughter is tall enough, but it's just not a ride that is enjoyable.

I agree this attraction needs a serious update. It does take up quite a bit of area in TL but I think the one issue I have about it is-IT'S NOT VERY FUTURISTIC!!! This ride can be made more fun. First of all, switch to electric cars or hybrids like others have previously stated. Rename it to TOMORROWLAND SPEEDWAY: THE COSMIC HIGHWAY. I would first start out by adding some robotic AAs around the attraction. Have them all around, have them interact with guest while waiting in line (which can be pretty boring-although it can be a bit funny when you watch cars bump a little).

Next, at the beginning of the ride have guest go through a cosmic tunnel to start their journey (similar to SM)

Or

Then during the center part of the track where the vehicles pass over each other have guests going through a building with futuristic city landscapes using either physical sets or projections and/or 4K HD screens.

Of course using small scale models. Also, have TL like music playing throughout the attraction while riding around. Just a thought.

PS-I do also like the Sugar Rush idea.

My thoughts:

1. It really should go away- it no longer fits the theme of TL (if it ever really did)
2. There is not even anything to really look at. Why not add some interesting topiaries? Futuristic scene/robots like another poster said? Would that be really expensive?

I understand kids enjoy the feeling of driving, but when I went with my two year old, they said not only could she not "drive" she could not sit next time me when I drove. I didn't realize that they would not let her even sit next time as I drove.

I just feel like the real estate is too crucial to waste on this outdated experience. Rip it up and give us something for FL and something for TL....

See that's the thing, if they wanted to keep it, upgrading it CAN'T be that expensive (for any reasonable upgrades).

I've mentioned before they should just remove the track entirely and make a futuristic simulated version in a building and leave 3/4 of the land open for other things.
