Trip Report **COMPLETED** The "Hey what's your name" and "I want to ride Home Depot" Trip Report

Hey all
We have been back for just about a day now so I figured why not start the Trip Report!
Also, I'm on call this week so its probably going to be a pretty sparse week sorry!

Who?
Also I am feeling lazy so I'm making abbreviations for mostly everyone
Left to right: My Dad (Jeff) - D, my nephew Max - no abbreviation, my sister Betta (her real name is Elizabeth) - B, my Mom (Mary) - M, Me! (Megan) - no abbreviation, my sister Jill - J and my brother-in law Nick - N
IMG_6938.JPG

When?
April 27, 2018 - May 5, 2018 (B and Max from April 29-May 5)

Where?
Port Orleans French Quarter :) Our favorite moderate

Why?
Celebrating my Mom's 5 year cancer free anniversary! (oh, and it was J and N's honeymoon - aka familymoon :joyfull: )

Day 1 April 27, 2018
2 am...2 am came very quickly this morning...especially since the NFL draft started the night before and I couldn't sleep until we made our first pick :joyfull:
Nonetheless, up I got and got ready to leave for the airport.
We got fancy with our dates sign this time :inlove:

DSC_8334.jpg

We shoved all 5 *yes 5* suitcases into our car and soon enough we were at the airport after a short 15 minute drive (bonus...no traffic at 3 am).
We got to the Southwest counter just after it opened and the one worker was OBSESSED with our luggage. She literally told us if our luggage doesn't show up in Orlando it was because she stole it :joyfull: Our luggage is Minnie Mouse...J actually has the same luggage and the worker was trying to steal hers too and then realized we were all related!
TSA precheck wasn't even open so we went through regular security which was only a bummer because it meant I have to take out my computer and iPad which is annoying :cautious::hilarious:
I was wearing my Wishes shirt that N got me for Christmas!
DSC_8342.jpg

May you rest in peace Wishes
IMG_6526.JPG

There actually weren't any food places open yet so we sat around a bit waiting for J and N to arrive. J actually lost her kindle because she didnt take it out for security (so TSA did) and had to go grab it after an overhead page alerted her of such :joyfull:
After she grabbed it we all went to Tim Hortons but that wasn't open yet either..
Finally 4 am hit us and our usual bagel place opened so we headed there :)
DSC_8343.jpg

I didn't take any pictures apparently but we shared a few bagels and got some water.
Soon enough it was time to board our flight. We got in line and we were like A20-24 I think. There were quite a few people ahead of us but I didn't say anything even though I knew they were probably after us. Eventually a woman in front of me did ask what their numbers were and the woman responds "Group A..." as if the rest of us weren't A :joyfull:. She then said what does it matter if we are all A anyway. The only reason I bring this up is because when we got up to gate to scan our tickets the Southwest worker kicked them out of line and made them wait until it was their turn (they were numbers like 40-41 or something). My Mom turned to me and said "burnnnnn." :joyfull::joyfull:

I'm sure I have talked about this before but my Mom and I like doing new things and then giving ourselves "checks" for them :joyfull: This started as a joke but now we are always looking for Disney checks. So, this day we decided to walk over to Riverside to check out their pool. The walk was lovely!
IMG_6718.JPG

We never really saw Riverside before other than what you see on the buses and way back when we ate at their food court once. So, it was cool to see!
Their pool was neat (or I should say their main pool)! If the water wasn't so cold we probably would have gone down the slide!

The walk back to POFQ isn't quite as lovely when you are wet :joyfull:
IMG_6723.JPG

Anyway we got back to POFQ and started getting ready for our dinner plans!
Jill and Nick were feeling better but still decided to hold off on going to dinner since the thought of food was far from appealing at this point.
We were heading to Fort Wilderness. My goal all along was to call a Minnie Van to avoid multiple buses/boats but I still made us leave super early in case we couldn't get a Minnie Van. Well, of course we got one right away.
DSC_9120.jpg

What's nice about the Minnie Vans is that they have car seats ! Well, and they take you right to the back of Fort Wilderness so you don't have to take an internal bus!
DSC_9121.jpg

Look at me being bossy as usual...
DSC_9122.jpg

Anyway, Max wasn't too sure about the Minnie Van but ended up loving it and kept asking to ride in one. Max was VERY chatty with the driver - it was hilarious. He was super quiet until all of a sudden he said "Hey! What's your name?" to the driver and then started chatting with him about everything. He proceeded to tell him about how he doesn't like "the ghost ride" but does love "Home Depot" which got some chuckles. He also blurted out "hey - do you have a phone?" and the CM said yes do you need it and he said "....no" like he was sad about it :joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: That kiddo cracks me up! We have no idea why he started every sentence with "hey."
Anyway, we got to Fort Wilderness super early thanks to my neurosis so we headed to the playground (after saying hi to some horses!)

Eventually we wandered down to the BBQ path
IMG_6746.JPG

We checked in and got our PP picture. I told them we only had 5 just to let them know (and told them the other 2 had food poisoning) and they were kind enough to mark that down so we could get a refund.
IMG_6791.JPG

Where you wait to be seated for the BBQ there was a pretty good view of River Country!!!!

Did the driver install the car seat for you? We’ve got a trip coming up (in december) and we thought about using a Minnie Van, but the 18 month old definitely needs a car seat.

Definitely fun interaction with Mickey! Oddly the last two times I took my daughter (she was 1 and then almost 2) the talking Mickey went into speeches about her having to get a job later in life!!!! Mickey really brought the mood down :)

Thank you :) I spent way too much time planning that outfit out :joyfull:

He did! They will always install it for you and I believe they carry 2 per car and a rear facing one as well - its awesome!

After checking in we waited forever to be seated. I would say this is the only super annoying thing about the BBQ because they tell you to come early but for essentially no reason other than to listen to the same overhead announcement like 15 times :joyfull:
DSC_9142.jpg

DSC_9143.jpg

Finally we got in and we got super nice seats (which I guess is the advantage of going early when you don't pay for Category 1 which we did not)!
DSC_9148.jpg

You start eating right away while the band comes out and introduces themselves - the band was awesome! I really don't like country music but the songs they played were good!
There are tons of buffet lines so there was no wait at all!
They had tons of options: different kinds of salads/sides, macaroni and cheese, beans, cornbread, corn on the cob, burgers, hot dogs, ribs, baked chicken, watermelon, etc etc
DSC_9150.jpg

DSC_9151.jpg

DSC_9153.jpg

They also had beer and wine included in the cost!
DSC_9152.jpg

The food was delicious!! Really, everything we had was super good!
DSC_9159.JPG

At this point in the day my camera was back to not working again. Example:
DSC_9157.JPG

Ugh...I really tried to not let it bother me but it was a huge bummer! I still have a million pictures though - don't worry!
The characters came out almost right away and you can get up and dance with them! It was soooo cool! I literally started crying a little when I saw them! They were adorable in their BBQ outfits!
DSC_9162.JPG

Funny story that one guy talking to Mickey was the same one who played Six-pence the two times we saw Hoop Dee Doo!

Oh, they have desserts too! Shortcake, other kind of cake and different kinds of ice cream! (Oh also, tons of pop machines and drinks like lemonade and such).

Max had his first ever Mickey Bar!

Despite his face he loved it :joyfull:
Anyway at some point the characters were out for pictures so we hopped in Minnie and Mickey's line. We waited a bit only because they had some dances they needed to do so they would come and go :)
Meanwhile the guy with the lasso was performing
DSC_9181.JPG

Finally it was our turn (P.S. my Dad did not wait in line with us - he was happy as a clam to sit and enjoy his food and beer while listening to music :) )

We had an absolute blast at the BBQ!!! Honestly I can not recommend it enough!!! The only thing I think I would change is I would probably pay for category 1 because you get photos before the BBQ and don't have to wait in line during it!
IMG_6788.JPG

We ended up taking a Minnie Van back home as well. We waited a bit for it but it was definitely worth it! Max was very chatty again :) "Hey whats your name" CM - "my name is Joe" Max : "no your name's not Joe" :joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: We were dying ! He said it over and over again until we were leaving the van and he said "bye Joe!" :hilarious::hilarious:
There was supposed to be a glow in the dark pool party so my Mom and I went down to check it out when we got back but it wasn't happening so we stopped to watch the Incredibles for a few minutes. My camera was super bad at this point so I texted @sheriffwoody SOS! We figured out it was just my one lens that was broken because my others were functioning fine. She asked me if I dropped it and I said no but the more I thought about it I realized I did indeed drop it at the airport when we were heading down (at 5 am hence why I forgot).:cry::cry::cry::cry: I would be without that lens for the rest of the trip and had to use my old camera at times. So, be prepared for posts ahead with either super zoomed pictures or not super great quaility. My videos were definitely the hardest part about the broken regular lens. Super bummer that it happened so early in our trip but I guess I should be grateful it lasted as long as it did while it was broken the whole time and also grateful it wasn't the actual camera!
Anyway, off to bed we went!

Anyway! We really enjoyed our lunch - as usual. Tony's always gets bad reviews but we enjoy it every time we go!
On the way out we stopped for a quick PP picture (as usual my Dad wasn't into getting a picture)

Next up: pool time!
Wow....that food at Tony's looks so much better than what we got there!! We have been disappointed the last couple of times. Glad to see you had a good experience there! It ALMOST makes me want to put it on my list for our 2019 trip, but not quite.

I know ! My Mom and I decided to never eat at The Edison just in case :joyfull:

I know!!! V and A is soooo expensive I feel so bad for them!
Did they complain to Disney about the Edison?? I would expect they deserve some compensation for that...some Disney Giftcards, or a redo at V&A on their next trip, or SOMETHING. In any case, Disney should be told about it! And they can't be the only ones who got sick from it! What did they eat there?

I was looking at that, too! Very cute! And I love that it actually has a waist. The trend over here is like that, but without any sort of tailoring to the wasteline and they just end up looking like you're wearing a pillowcase. I don't think they're very flattering on ANYONE. But, I see them EVERYWHERE, so I must be in the minority. This one is SOOOOO much cuter than the ones I see here!!

Aw, that's a bummer about the lens. Did you get a new one now?
So which would you say is better: Hoop-dee-doo or Backyard BBQ? We've never done either and we have heard amazing things about HDD, and mixed reviews of BYBBQ, so we have HDD on our list for this next trip.
