Trip Report COMPLETED- I Couldn't Love You, but Here's $0.25 in Souvenirs- Celebrating 10 Years of Kid Trips to Disney

We began our adventures early on the morning of February 5th. Just before 7am CT, we had my vehicle loaded up and ready to go. I’m not sure how we did it, but we managed some room for the dog so we could drop her off for boarding (aka Camp!) on our way out of town. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. She gets comfortable in the strangest positions...

I haven’t set foot in my office since March 16, 2020, so I have no idea what rush hour really looks like these days or if Fridays are still lighter traffic days...but it was a breeze getting out of Houston.

I have no pictures for you until shortly after Lafayette, LA. I was driving up until this point, but after a series of urgent texts from my boss, we decided to stop and switch drivers. I’m not a big fan of critical conference calls at the start of my vacation, but these days, I’m thankful to be gainfully employed. After I got off the phone, I took a few pics as we were driving through the Atchafalaya.

It’s probably for the best that I wasn’t taking pics prior to this. Everything around Lake Charles, not too far west of this area, is still showing a lot of damage and tarps from the 2020 hurricane season, so it's pretty depressing. I also hate driving over the Mississippi in Baton Rouge, so I was pretty happy to have David at the wheel.

Speaking of David (and everyone else), if you want all of the details, please take a look at my PTR. https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/family-return-to-wdw-take-2.971452/

Now, if it looks rainy and gloomy...it’s because it was. We were at the leading edge of a front that was moving east. The rain stayed with us for a good portion of the drive.

50912470921_c0ff159fa3_z.jpg

In light of everything Covid, we didn’t stop at any of our usual lunch spots. I packed a small cooler full of lunch stuff and we stopped at the Mississippi welcome center to eat. Unfortunately, it was really chilly, so we ate in the car. That didn’t stop a ton of pigeons from surrounding us in hopes that we’d drop some crumbs on the way to the trash.

50912602042_17e37c003c_z.jpg

I was aiming for Tallahassee for the night. That’s usually where we wind up when we make good time, but we’d left so early that we were in Tallahassee by dinner time...even with losing an hour when crossing into the Eastern time zone. We didn't even have traffic with the tunnel in Mobile! Not sure why we decided on Whataburger when we have tons of them at home and this one was way off the highway, but we went a bit out of our way to eat at this one for who knows what reason. At least it had a nice little drive-in area to park and eat.

50915171003_17f6c94374_z.jpg

Somewhere in between Pensacola and Tallahassee, we also developed a bit of a car problem…

50915855166_9bd66c7dce_z.jpg

50931651393_818565f737_z.jpg

Somehow, my front sensor got blocked, which in turn disabled all of my front end safety features...as well as my cruise control. I’d had this happen once before, but it quickly corrected itself. This time, it wasn’t going away. The rest of the trip both to Disney and back would be done without cruise control. I felt like I’d jumped back in time to my first car!

We could have stopped for the night at this point. It was late enough that it wouldn’t have been crazy, but it was early enough that we felt the need to push on. So, I booked a hotel in Gainesville and we kept driving. I lived in Gainesville for several years in the early to mid 90s, so it always feels a bit strange to go back, but it was the best option for the night. It took a little bit of time to get all of our stuff upstairs, but by driving a bit farther this evening, we could all relax a bit and sleep in a little the next morning. And silly...we could be silly.

We slept in a little on February 6th. I think it was around 9am when we went downstairs to grab some breakfast to bring back to the room. It was mainly just some cereal, fruit and hard boiled eggs. We couldn’t sit around too long, because we remembered that I forgot to get cash. I couldn’t remember if the toll plazas had switched to toll by plate (they had) and I’d need some cash for tips upon arrival at WDW. So, we waved good-bye to the LaQuinta…

50931651398_b3907a04aa_z.jpg

And headed to Publix…

50932461472_8a43d76ef4_z.jpg

I didn’t spend a lot of time in there, but it was really strange, because this was the Publix we’d shop at when we lived in Gainesville. It just happened to be the closest to the hotel. It also was in the same shopping center as a restaurant I used to work at for a couple of years...so a real trip down memory lane.

With cash in hand (and an extra stick of deodorant purchased so I could get cash back), we were on our way to WDW. I also got some time to call and set up an appointment to get my vehicle in the shop when we got home (more on that later).

David was driving, so I was actually able to take a few pics on my phone when we arrived.

50915866811_0393bf4a09_z.jpg

This was also his choice of arrival music. I still don’t get it, but he’s got a pretty fun Idina Menzel impersonation. I regret not taking video, but I was taking pictures.

50915996637_5dd07eab22_z.jpg

50915868921_699811458f_z.jpg

I’m sure most of us have experienced this, but between my phone, the MDE app, and our magic bands, they knew that we were on property. I immediately got notification that our room wasn’t ready, so I wasn’t expecting much upon arrival.

50932338506_547527319e_z.jpg

After getting a multitude of welcome homes from the security booth attendant (Kendall had all kinds of questions about this practice), a very nice guy with bell services helped with our luggage (who looked kind of funny at the big air mattress I had in the mix) and a woman, who magically knew it was me, told me she’d messaged housekeeping to put a rush on our room. So, all there was left to do at this point was park and figure out what to do with ourselves while we waited. Since I’d canceled our B&C ADR, we didn’t have any place to be until 5pm...and it was 11:48am. Hey, I told Disney we’d be showing up around noon.

Coming up...managing the wait, first impressions on our room, and an evening in Disney Springs.

Ooof, sounds like you had a rough day!! It's so hard when things go wrong. Are you 100% in person school now for both of them? We started with a hybrid last week, and E forgot she had in-person school on Friday and forgot to set her alarm, so I had to wake her up. But she just jumped up, got dressed, packed her back and ran out the door. I woke her up just in time for her to get everything done. If it were A, it would have been huge drama! E tells me everything, though, so I know when she's stressed out.

Was K's friend ok? We had one of those scares with one of E's friends several months ago. Unfortunately I feel like my husband handled it all wrong and scared the girl off and the girl blocked E on everything. I've had a little training in that area, and he hasn't, and he tried to go in guns blazing, calling all her former teachers and her parents to tell them secrets she had confided in E, so now the girl doesn't trust E, and will be less likely to confide anything again. I feel really bad for the girl, but now we're not in a position to help her anymore. And the reason we pulled A out of his school a couple of years ago and started sending him to a special ed school was because he was being bullied so badly that he said he wanted to kill himself. He was 9. Scariest moment as a parent, ever. We kept him home for a month until we could get him qualified for the special ed school. There was no way we were sending him back to the school where he was. I hope K's friend got some help. Did Sam know what was going on? Could you maybe talk to her about letting someone know if she's facing something?

Our district started offering 100% in person by late August. You can still opt for 100% remote, or remote + UIL in person for things like music and sports. As soon as they shifted to 100% in person, they got rid of the going every other day. The girls just weren't doing well being 100% core classes online, so we switched them to in person by early September. It's made a world of difference with grades and moods. Kendall just has to be there so early that things can get tense. Monday, she has to be there before 6am for weight room day, Tuesday-Friday she has to be there before 7am for field practice days...unless it's a late arrival Thursday for the district, which means going in by about 9am and staying until after 5pm.

K's friend is supposedly improving. I just wanted to show K and her friend that I took this all very seriously so they know they can trust me with these things. David was going to come with us, but he unfortunately showed them he didn't grasp the critical nature of the matter. David has a nasty habit of making us late by going to the bathroom when we need to leave and be somewhere. So, while I'm running out the door, he's casually going to the bathroom. I probably could have used the restroom too, but if it were my kid, I'd hope someone else would hold it and put trying to help and stop this as the priority too. Heck, I was in such a rush I forgot my phone at home. I've heard our kids say it to be dramatic and it scares the living daylights out of me, but it's why I try to keep lines of communications open, keep them involved in stuff to help keep them feel engaged, and spy on them from time to time. Sam will come to me. As she gets older, she'll now tell me if she wants to talk and we'll usually sit down in private. Still, I keep on top of them. I'm sure you were so terrified when you heard that from your son. I can also see how your husband's handling of E's friend's situation could create more problems and hurt the friendship. I was worried about that with involving the coaches, but these parents don't know me, I don't know this girl, and at that point...I just was thinking...need to get someone involved who can reach those closest to her. So, I hope it helps her, but I hope it doesn't strain things with friends who were just trying to help.

Side note...I have pretty much finished writing the report, but I won’t slam you with everything at once. It is kind of funny because I looked down and it’s still 72 pages of stuff! OK...72 Word doc pages with lots of spacing and pics, but still!

Before I forgot, David reminded me to take some pictures of our room’s issues. I honestly noticed none of this at first, but they’re the things you see after a few days. Did it make them unfit for use...no. Still, we always talk about Disney quality and what are we really getting for the $$$$$$. Sorry...not trying to be negative...just honest.

So, nothing catastrophic, but the rack rate on this room is $765-804 a night. Is this the priciest room on property...hardly, but it’s also not the cheapest either and I’d expect better at all of the resort levels. Sure, we got a decent room discount, but you’d still expect a bit better. OK...on to more positive things.

So, while I dropped Topolino’s breakfast, there was no way I was dropping dinner. My parents had been there in early 2020 for my dad’s birthday and had nothing but great things to say about it. Plus it meant I could get Sam to dress up! She is such a tomboy and dressing up usually is a nicer t-shirt and making sure her shorts match. You can’t tell here, but I swear...that’s a dress!!!

50931236971_d8c204227e_z.jpg

Kendall, on the other hand, has always enjoyed being dressy and sassy.

...unless you want to count the ridiculous holiday dresses I made them wear in 2017. I’m a parent...putting them in stuff like this every now and then is my job! Right?

I guess at least they were well behaved in that pic...unlike all of my attempts for a decent GF tree pic in 2012.

OK, enough memory lane for now...it’s dinner time!

I didn’t want my dad walking all the way to the lot to get to my vehicle, nor are any of us equipped for an ECV, so I drove up to the front to pick everyone up. I know I mapped it a while back, but I guess I didn’t realize how close Riviera is to Boardwalk. With the lights in our favor, it was easily under 5 minute and thankfully parking wasn’t too bad.

50936834237_dab2aa5254_z.jpg

I took some rushed pics on our way through the lobby and on our way up, but I really wasn’t wowed enough to stop on the way up. So, anything that required more attention was just going to have to wait until we came back down. I will say that it’s a welcome surprise to get up to the lop and see all of the pretty decor…

There’s really not much to do up there but wait if you’re early...at least that I could see. I wasn’t keen on wandering too much because there were several families with children trying to entertain them in the areas down the hall. At least these two just need screens to entertain them these days.

50936033588_bf0a2ca6e1_z.jpg

While we were waiting, I happened to notice all of the Disney bags that ladies had who were also waiting. One had a Harveys with Minnie dots and then another had a Gucci Donald tote. Part of me would really love the backpack from that same line, but I had a choice...camera gear or bag. Camera gear won. David would also likely give me a whole earful about “needing” a new bag. In this case, he’s probably right.

After getting our temps checked, we were seated in an area along the windows by the deck. Of course, we were in between windows and I’d have to lean back to look outside, but hey...it’s still nice.

I keep thinking they’re playing games when it’s still just the darn menu.

Also amazing to see Sam with her hair down. She still wouldn’t let me fix it to make it look all pretty (I have major hair envy with her), but it’s down.

I think this was the meal we opted to order in stages, but at some point, we took turns outside to take in the view.

It’s pretty out there. Not sure it’s Cali Grill pretty...but it’s kind of tough to beat an MK view. I was also getting pretty hungry, so that could have been impacting my thoughts as well. Thankfully, we came back in to bread.

50936028928_272718c5f0_z.jpg

50936717401_5bb4f09a25_z.jpg

I thought the bread was really good and the oil had a really nice rich flavor. Sam felt the bread was a little on the tough side, which prompted this whole different types of bread conversation. David said he wished he had salt and pepper to season the oil, but he’ll soon get a solution to that. But first...drinks!

The girls got some non-alcoholic fizz thing that had some cucumber element to it. I have a pic of Kendall’s that will be in her appetizer. It was really good. I think it was called a strawberry cucumber spritzer. I wanted to order a pomegranate paradiso, but they were out of the vodka to make the drink. So, I had a French Rose.

50936716626_f8f387e91c_z.jpg

It was good, but the other drink sounded better. David ordered something...can’t remember if it was the Modern Fashioned or the Boulevardier. It wasn’t what he expected. I recall it being something he didn’t anticipate to be served neat, so maybe it was the Modern. He wound up ordering one of what I got after that.

We ordered several appetizers. I got the ricotta.

50936027178_96f1b26250_z.jpg

Kendall shocked us all and got the escargot.

I’m not gonna lie...I was really hoping for a Pretty Woman “slippery suckers” kind of moment. LOL We had a few good laughs at first…

That plate of all of the butter, and herbs and juices also turned out to be great for the bread as well. So, David was pretty happy with that.

Kendall also shared a little…

David and I each had the rigatoni for our entrees.

He, who mocks my food pics, felt he needed a pic of his own. So this is David’s bowl of rigatoni. LOL

Sam got the filet…

My dad got the fettuccini…

My mom wasn’t overly hungry and planned to have a few bites from my dad’s meal, so she just got the gnocchi as her meal.

I think Kendall had the lamb. I almost typed LAMP. Tasty!

50936824522_602cb37c62_z.jpg

I wish I could remember what was so funny. I know it was a Kendall faulty logic thing. It may have been a where did your food come from sort of thing, but now I can’t recall. Too bad, because I seem to remember it was report title worthy. Or maybe it was geography. Oh well.

Whatever it was, she tried to Google it.

Our server also brought over a little treat for the people celebrating an anniversary. I listed a birthday on there, but I guess we’re all going to have a birthdayversary. Horrible pic- but it’s sort of cake/brownie bite with a madeleine cookie.

50936022013_49154efb8c_z.jpg

David wound up taking it.

All in all, dinner was excellent, but it wasn’t what I was in the mood for. I was in a more traditional Italian mood that day and might have been better with Il Mulino. Oh well. Il Munlino doesn’t have that view though.

On our way out, I had to take a light photo...just like old times.

50936820027_7372b79348_z.jpg

We also explored a little before leaving.

It was an easy drive back to BWV. I dropped everyone off at the front, but my mom insisted on coming with me while I parked the car. My good spot was gone. I tried looping around to a different lane, but realized that everything was blocked off with golf carts. I got so turned around that when I pulled down an open lane, I forgot there were cement blocks marking the spaces and ultimately pulled through. At least I was going slow and I’m not the only one who has done this.

After this, it was off to bed...well, after trying to get some laundry to finish drying. Those stackables take multiple cycles for anything more than a small load. We had our earliest start day of the trip coming up.

Coming up...Where’s the resort?, Hating on Daisy, Going the long way to do the right thing, I thought I just hated pink, and my Friends moment.

Oh...and a bag related note...nothing in Epcot yesterday, but my mom found me a bag with near perfect placement in HS today. Of course, my ShopDisney order also shipped today. You know it wouldn’t have worked out like this if I didn’t buy that bag right away. This is what my mom picked up for me!

I know people love Pop, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I mean, I do like larger than life stuff!

While AOA felt very quiet, Pop had life. Obviously, some of that is because their pool is open and it was warm enough to draw a crowd. We decided to head inside.
We liked Pop. Good resort location, good room location. It seemed like a happy resort.

I think Sam made a short joke about K right here and how she makes Baloo and Mowgli look larger than they really are. K may be the big sister in age, but Sam is likely to be taller than all of us when she stops growing. K just wants to hit 5’ in height.
You, and me both, Kendall.

I kind of surprised myself. I really don't need it, but is it really about need? 🤣

I hope I get some good placement with what I ordered. My mom didn't see anything in Epcot today, but she's going to look in Hollywood Studios tomorrow just in case.
During our visit, I got the Pooh (surprise, surprise) crossbody. All of the crossbody bags had the exact same placement. It had to have been planned. I wondered if D&B made the executive decision to do this.

You, and me both, Kendall.

We've never stayed there. With the rooms being converted to have queens, it's definitely a possibility. The only thing that worries me is space.

I had to scold her the other day. We were at the market and saw an old family friend. While still in earshot, K says "WOW! She's tall!" She is, but I had to ask her how she felt whenever people are shocked at her height. She saw my point.

I'm wondering if the store just happened to have a lot of identical bags. If it's the cute classic Pooh print that came out over the summer, I think only the tote had the same print. I know I saw some ladies in my purse group swapping things for placement. Not sure which bag it is, but here are some I found on ebay.

I think one is technically the letter carrier while the other is the actual crossbody, but they both function as cross bodies. Either way, I loved this pattern and considered getting one for Sam to save for her. She's just not into anything like this though, so I didn't do it.

I think one is technically the letter carrier while the other is the actual crossbody, but they both function as cross bodies. Either way, I loved this pattern and considered getting one for Sam to save for her. She's just not into anything like this though, so I didn't do it.
I love that pattern!

Side note...my parents are bummed that they weren’t able to get RotR yesterday. They tried and 7am and 1pm, and nothing. They said DHS, and the parks in general, feel really crowded. I know it’s spring break, but it makes me start wondering how full the parks really were back before the pandemic. I know it feels more crowded with lines stretching out all over the place, but with all of the rumors previously circulating about Disney playing with wait times, ride volume, queues, etc. to give the appearance of crowds...it really makes me wonder what kind of capacity I was seeing in Jan 2020 or July 2016. OK...on with the report.

It’s February 10th and we’re FINALLY going to see the castle!!! ...but first...we need some grub. The food variety...not the Timon and Pumbaa actual grub kind. OK...bad Disney joke, right? I should let you know that I love a good (bad?) dad joke, or maybe that already shows?

My mom had me keep the breakfast ADR for Chef Mickeys, so I canceled the lunch at the Plaza. I am not a big Chef Mickey’s fan...for any meal...but my mom is really nostalgic with it and wanted to keep it. I had at least heard good things about it since it opened in non-buffet form and was trying to be optimistic. It was a 7:45am ADR and with transportation being kind of strange right now for pre-park opening stuff, we opted to drive. So, I trekked out to the parking lot in the fog and looped around to do pick ups.

50936818867_91b226fb6e_z.jpg

My parents decided to do their own driving and met us there. They decided they would meet us at MK later. I think their initial thought was that they couldn’t lift the ECV into their rental vehicle, but my dad was also spooked because a CM told him MK was the least ADA compliant park of the bunch and it would be the one park where he’d have a lot of trouble with it. I really wish he hadn’t listened to them and I really wish he’d gone with my brother’s suggestion of getting the DAS pass, but he’s an adult and I can’t force him. Still, driving to the Contemporary on an MK day didn’t feel like the wisest choice...but I also didn’t really want to Lyft or Uber. So, it was what it was.

When we arrived, the guard at the entrance was super cheery and we had a good laugh about him already letting in my dad. He also noted that we were in matching shirts so he knew we were together. Yeah...my mom bought us all matching color block Mickey shirts. They go perfectly with K’s new ears. We were instructed to park in the lot section furthest from the doors since they had a function going on. When we got out, we could barely see the Contemporary.

50936018968_9c44ab9825_z.jpg

At least it was a bit better when we got near the building.

50936018258_c09ef655af_z.jpg

At least there’s no fog inside. LOL

50936706226_2cb01a5c54_z.jpg

We checked in and sat in the chairs on the edge of Outer Rim.

50936705736_c877acb0a5_z.jpg

Got my customary pic of this while we waited…

50936705431_829accc82c_z.jpg

I can’t remember how much of a wait there was between app check in and the table being ready, but it wasn’t much of a wait. We had our temps taken, we were complimented on our shirts, and we were taken to our table. We got to see our first monorail of the entire trip right after being seated.

Love me some Mary Blair!

It’s no secret that I love the Contemporary, so it was nice to have some reason to be there. And while I don’t love the meal, we’ve had some nice memories at Chef Mickey’s.

Not sure why I picked all Goofy pics, but those looked fun. LOL

Our server seemed nice, but right away, things were feeling a bit hectic. Not full blown rushed, but like there was a bit of a frenzied sort of vibe to it all. We started with fruit and granola…

50936704591_70b9738248_z.jpg

50936704426_bb804e3d7c_z.jpg

Then some rolls and fritters came out.

50936815802_952f55eb83_z.jpg

So far, nothing bad but nothing great either. I wanted those fritters to be good, but they were really a waste of calories.

Characters started to come out and Daisy came by first.

50936015733_34e5367f42_z.jpg

I don’t know why, but I thought it was fun to focus on the kids while they were taking their pics of her.

50936015078_bb3677ce65_z.jpg

As the kids were reviewing their pics, something came up that was news to me. Kendall HATES Daisy. Like complete and total loathing of the girl duck! Never knew! Apparently, Daisy is for Kendall as what Minnie is for me. Personally, I like Daisy. She’s sassy!

50936702191_591dedc473_z.jpg

I guess I thought the same thing would be fun for all of the characters.

50936812832_dbb6a71dbe_z.jpg

You can also see Kendall’s crazy coffee beverage. Again with the special drinks!

Oh wait, I actually took one of Mickey in focus!

More food...real … well, sort of real, food.

50936811737_e99e61d7b5_z.jpg

These were regular Mickey waffles and while they were good, I’m afraid to say that I actually preferred the gluten free ones I got at Cape May last year. The bacon was typical Disney bacon, the sausage was sausage, but the eggs were disgusting. I know they often use that powdered eggs mixture stuff, and some places get the consistency right of fresh eggs...but this tasted like the Tang or Powdered Milk of egg concoctions.

Next up was a Mickey pancake…

50936011783_e325ba7a8c_z.jpg

I wanted to like this too, but it reminded me of the frozen premade pancakes I used to buy for rushed mornings.

50936011588_0e94c58584_z.jpg

In the blurry pic above, you can kind of make out the two plates of cheesy potatoes and the one plate of some sort of banana bread sort of stuff. David and Sam really enjoyed the potatoes, but they reminded me of the ones from Akershus breakfast. Long story short...I wasn’t a fan. The banana stuff was on the dry side, so not a big fan of that either.

Minnie came by next. I guess K is starting to share my Minnie feelings.

50936698581_5e6f1d8755_z.jpg

50936698116_1d3f4ea6fd_z.jpg

Clearly, K has a lot more respect for Goofy!

50936008813_d240cbdd5d_z.jpg

And now...the MOST important character of the entire meal!

50936007508_f555fa0d97_z.jpg

50936006868_0899bcc1eb_z.jpg

In case you couldn’t tell, he and I are agreeing that Donald Duck is #1!

50936805642_2acec520e7_z.jpg

I had expressed that I was a little embarrassed to be wearing a rival’s shirt when we were there to see him.

50936005233_c7dbe22c8e_z.jpg

50936005058_3ee7895df1_z.jpg

In my mom’s defense, she had two family shirt ideas and one was a Donald shirt. Unfortunately, the Mickey shirt was a much cuter shirt, so I went for style vs. superior character.

Donald had to go be with other adoring fans, so we were back to another round of Daisy. You can see how pleased Kendall is to see her!

50936693056_d8e166c6d7_z.jpg

They did their little dance thingy about making rolls or whatever, and of course we wind up with Minnie and Daisy.

50936692581_034b0a03e2_z.jpg

I swear...we really are Disney fans. Really! We just have some characters that drive us up a wall!

I wound up getting more of the mural and David’s head in these, but Goofy also came by in the dance number to try and get us to clap and get into it.

50936803302_52985da7d5_z.jpg

I also made sure to add a birthday to this at check in...so we got a cupcake.

50936803157_e2599e3932_z.jpg

No autographs, but we got our little cards before leaving.

50936691301_3327b6a2db_z.jpg

50936002883_ac7eeb1d30_z.jpg

Before we left, most of us took a trip to the bathroom. Someone whined about it being downstairs. Whatever! My big issue is that I was pretty concerned about the chaffing. I was in pants, because they felt softer on things than some of my shorts. The area was starting to weep a little, so I was afraid of how bad things might get. Oh well...it was time to head out and hit MK.

Some pics on the way out…

OK...really just ONE pic! We were in a hurry. I also really don’t want to go back to Chef Mickey’s again. Please...nobody make me...love ya mom, but let’s pick a different meal next time!

We waved good-bye to my parents and power walked to the car. My gosh, it would have been so easy to just walk to MK from here and the guard at the gate never said anything about the limit for parking for dining. Still, I know better. I know I’m not supposed to leave my vehicle there all day...and my luck...I would have been towed. So, we got in the car and drove to MK...well, sort of. I mapped us to the TTC, because I know that’s where we would be parking. It sent me to the private bus entrance! So, I had to turn around between the GF and Poly and map us to the MK entrance. David didn’t understand why we had to go through the big gate and all. I tried to explain it, but he still said it was stupid and that onsite guests should have another access point in the MK area. Yeah, I think that would be a disaster. How many non-guests would try and get in that way and gum up the works! So, I wound up in the long line of vehicles trying to get through the MK gate and to the TTC lot. I was so annoyed, but it was a risk I knew we’d be taking with driving. And maybe someone else has a better idea for how we could have done this, but it’s done now. No fixing it for this trip.

We parked in Peter Pan, which was easy enough to remember, but I took a pic of the number just to be sure I didn’t forget.

50930547978_340bc39fdf_z.jpg

Time to make the walk.

50936690891_9d13fb948f_z.jpg

Security was a breeze and we were on our way to the platform.

Our transportation has arrived.

50936002138_65598b94dc_z.jpg

And we have our seats.

I promised another friend I’d video our monorail ride. Once again...having sideways issues.

And is it me, or does the monorail PA audio sound oddly quiet to you guys? It did to us.

Oh, and while I’ve never had a problem with monorail odor in the past, monorail silver was pretty ripe this morning. At least the express is a fairly quick ride, and we’re off for some magic.

50936689986_72040259ce_z.jpg

I know we left Chef Mickey’s before 9am...possibly closer to 8:45, so you can see how much time was lost with our driving escapades.

50936689371_ffce43de3e_z.jpg

And there she is!

I hadn’t made up my mind yet on how I felt about it. I certainly don’t like it nearly as much as the way it previously looked, but I hadn’t decided if I hated it yet. I would need to see it in full sunlight to make that call.

Coming up...we get wild, we get splashed, I have an unfortunate Friends moment, we get haunted, and we split.

We waved hi to Crystal Palace on our way to our first stop.

I know my brother’s family went here around New Year’s, but I just couldn’t bring myself to booking it without Pooh and Friends doing some kind of distanced appearance.

We kept walking…

OK...moving forward.

50935999453_df826facb4_z.jpg

David asked me if I wanted to stop in the Christmas shop, since I am thinking about adding another tree for next year, but it’s not going to be a Disney tree. So I passed.

Getting closer to our first attraction…

50936798572_caeaacf66f_z.jpg

The line started back by the area near Splash where I used to see Woody and Jessie do M&Gs. It wasn’t too bad until we noticed a guy refusing to wear his mask while in line. Sometimes he was actively eating or drinking, sometimes he was on the phone, sometimes he was talking to his family, and sometimes it was like he was just trying to take in the fresh air. They also weren’t paying attention to the ground markers. The woman who was in front of him decided she’d had enough of his idiocy, and let them go ahead of her and her daughter. He passed right in front of a CM who said nothing. In light of that, we all said something to the CMs when we got to the main entrance to the attraction queue. Yeah...nothing was done. We tried.

So, we just tried to appreciate the queue, since we never see it.

50936797317_15c23d9afb_z.jpg

I was back to embarrassing my family with this picture. There’s a door right here, and I really wasn’t expecting it to open. Right as I was taking this picture...which involved me leaning on said door...it flung wide open. The kids were mortified, but it did say Exit.

50936685226_4ae8030508_z.jpg

After staying across the street from an old boothill in MT, the kids totally got this sign.

50936796907_8186bbdf66_z.jpg

I can’t remember how long we actually waited, but I just tried to make the best of it by appreciating all of these little details I probably haven’t seen in decades.

I was really hoping for a pic of the train coming out of the mine shaft, so what do I do when I get the opportunity? I cut off the top of the drip castle!

50936683996_160dc66230_z.jpg

Really hoping we make this summer road trip work and everyone isn’t ready to head home so we can see the inspirations at Bryce in person.

This would have also been cool if there had been a train coming through.

50936683811_49c64bce96_z.jpg

I know I joked with Kendall, wondering about where all of the canaries went. She didn’t get it or find it amusing.

50936795442_9a15c1f542_z.jpg

An ad for Pecos Bill in the queue? Hmmmm…..interesting. Advertising for your own restaurant in the attraction queue.

50935995158_b477aa88d7_z.jpg

Getting close.

50936683261_8069168c2c_z.jpg

We also had a nice trip down memory lane, discussing Kendall’s first ride on BTMRR and how she loudly remarked that she didn’t think anyone was driving the train. Good times!

50936683031_a25123ebff_z.jpg

We tried getting out all of our dancing before boarding. I recall embarrassing the kids with some disco style moves.

50935994603_2c7b72421a_z.jpg

I’m sure everyone around us loved me constantly saying this as we walked through the queue, but it was FINALLY our time to hear it for our ride.

And we’re off!!!

I was afraid of how my back was going to handle this, but I did pretty well. It really wasn’t until the end that I felt a little discomfort and it wasn’t bad. So maybe I was improving?

I insisted that we go here next…

We don’t always ride it because we really don’t like getting wet, but I have no idea when we’re going to return to WDW, and it’s likely it won’t be like this whenever we do return. And while I had the ponchos with me, there's something odd to me about going on a water ride with one...like the whole point is to risk getting wet. So, we were in a must ride situation...even though the wait was more than I would have liked…

50936950532_ea21979f4c_z.jpg

So, we patiently made our way through the queue.

50936839836_da6efbfd7d_z.jpg

50936839556_db44320b6d_z.jpg

I think she’s tall enough to ride the ride. LOL

50936949687_da0815f7d2_z.jpg

She’s nearly my height and she’s not done growing. She’s the younger one, but in the end, she is probably going to max out being about 8-9” taller than her “big” sister.

Poor K...At least she’s tall enough to ride!

50936949362_c169b1ff67_z.jpg

50936838596_7406b2c730_z.jpg

She was being goofy about something. No clue what now.

Getting closer…

50936150998_4e7c1f452d_z.jpg

I put my camera away, but I did something I have never done...I took my phone out and videoed nearly the entire ride. NOTE- this is also where you’re going to see David briefly remove his mask. I’ve already said my piece on this, so I’ll leave it at that. On a funny note, at 0:56 you’ll see a log coming down the big drop and there’s a guy who loses his hat. We all cracked up that I actually caught this. So, sit back and enjoy a ride on Splash...and pardon some of the ridiculous commentary from all of us. Is it the best video...no, but it’s still fun.

Log Jam!

50931354672_72d24969b1_z.jpg

So we get off and we’re probably a bit more wet than we would have liked. I don’t know if this next move was a mistake for me or not, but we went to the restroom. I already knew the wet pants wouldn’t be good for my chaffing, but I hadn’t considered trying to get pants back on that were wet from both sweat and Splash Mountain’s funky water. I’m happy to report that I didn’t have to resort to powder and Vaseline, nor did I have to send my family out to buy me some shorts, but I had about 10 tense minutes of feeling like Ross in this Friends episode. The only difference...I had people in stalls all around me to hear me grunting and struggling with my wet pants. Because this could have been me!!! I guess it would have been a great trip report title...Why I Got Kicked out of Disney and the time I went pantsless in MK.

We had a small discussion about where to next. PotC and HM were both on the table. I suggested HM because it’s more the direction we were looking to go with other plans.

50936948262_677cfc93ba_z.jpg

Ahhh...it wouldn’t be a trip to MK without a castle and crane pic.

It’s not the most exciting of queues, but I really do miss all of the little features that are currently closed off. I never got a chance to try and recreate this Kendall pic!

We had to rush past Leota…

50936835411_1fc31270ac_z.jpg

And the pre-stretched stretching room…

50936148063_dbd108a54a_z.jpg

I wanted to soak it all in, so I didn’t take any pictures this time. Kendall had been commenting the entire trip how it didn’t really feel like we were at Disney, and I think this may have been the moment when I finally felt like I was at Disney. On a side note, parts of the attraction...especially the seance room...felt exceptionally dark. I know it’s a dark ride...one of the darkest...but it felt darker than normal.

After our ride, we popped into Memento Mori to see if they had any better lanyards for Sam. They had the same stuff, but she wound up buying it. I just looked around a little.

This is when we chose to part ways. Kendall and I were all about IASW. David and Sam were willing to ride it, but really wanted to do other things. So, we let them off the hook and they ventured off.

Coming up...Kendall and I do our own thing.

I was going through my YouTube videos last night to make sure some of Kendall's choir concert videos uploaded and found this Chef Mickey's video I forgot to share. For whatever reason, I didn't upload to YouTube in chronological order, so I've had to look for things out of order and in with things prior to the trip. Not the most exciting thing...but this was the little dance thing they did while we were at Chef Mickey's breakfast.

Also kind of funny...the booth/bench seating behind the girls is where we sat back in 2010 for our very first Chef Mickey's meal. It was one of those bench/chair combo tables. Just funny to be right across from where they had their first ever character meal at Disney.
