Smoking is only permitted in designated areas in WDW. Would you agree with a complete ban? The only reason im asking this is because in the UK they are deciding wether or not to ban smoking in public places completely.

Much as I hate smoking, for those hooked on the habit twelve hours away from it may bit a bit much so I'm happy for there to be designated areas. It's the gits who light up where they want that annoy me.

Exactly. I can avoid the smoking areas, and as long as I'm outdoors, I really don't care...as long as their lit cigarettes aren't near me.

I wouldn't necessarily complain if it were banned altogether. While I understand it is nice for the smokers, for some reason it makes certain ignorant guests forget that they aren't allowed to smoke elsewhere, which is simply ridiculous. When I'm standing in line for the Tower of Terror or waiting for Fantasmic! to start, I'd rather not have smoke blown in my face. The simple response would be to have more Cast Members posted to keep this from happening, but it would also be cheaper just to ban it altogether. I wish there were something that could be done, though, because the parks generally smell bad, anyway, in the summer, thanks to all of the people. The smoke that some more inconsiderate guests throw into the mix only makes it worse. For those smokers that only smoke in those designated areas, kudos to you. For the others, ~cough, hack, cough~, there are kids here...

Not being a smoker, I wouldn't care if it were completely banned, however it would probably just cause people to sneak cigarettes in places like washrooms, etc. I would rather smokers have a designated smoking area that I can avoid.

I voted to completely ban it. After all, they don't sell them anywhere on property, why allow them to smoke them anywhere on property? Even though they have the designated areas, those who are smoking are still getting second AND first hand smoke, decreasing their life span even more. I hvae no sympothy for those who smoke and get lung cancer. I know, that's harsh and I'm going to get shot for saying it but it's true. I'm also going to agree that those who feel they are superior to everyone else and can break the rules by smoking whenever and wherever they choose really tick me off. I'm escaping the "real world" and being in the most magical place, I don't want it ruined by smoke. DCA and DL don't allow smoking in public places because smoking isn't allowed anywhere in CA in public. If they can do it there, they can do it at WDW too. (At least last I knew it was still illegal to smoke in public places in CA.)

I think it's okay the way it is - as long as the designated smoking areas are enforced! I am not a smoker, nor do I ever want to smoke. However, I do know many smokers and I know how tough it can be for them to go a long time without a cigarette. I think so long as the CMs are adamant about people only smoking in designated areas, it is fine the way it is.

As for CA's laws, it legal to smoke in public outdoor areas, but not in public buildings. I think there is also a 50-foot radius around buildings where you cannot smoke.

Being an exsmoker I know whats its like not to have a cigarette for a long period of time. So I would not begrudge someone else from doing the same.
But when I was there this month I was more botherd by others smoking any where the pleased. And when they were told that they couldn't smoke only in designated areas they just look at the ppl and laughed. So it only go and shows you how much ppl pay attention to the rules.

EXACTLY :sohappy: :sohappy:
If we completely banned it, matters would be worse. Having designated areas accomadates everyone the best. If smokers were to not have any places to go then they would make their own, without the skilled decision making that went into designating the smoking areas by WDW management. At least with the areas we have a place to send the guests. Without them we'd have a much tougher time with our smoking guests. Smokers do have rights too.

Florida also has a ban on smoking in public buildings.

Actually they do sell them, all of the resorts sell them at the stores, they are not visable but behind the counter. They don't sell them in the parks though. I voted to keep it the way it is, I just don't go in the smoking areas.

Actually that ban pertains to public buildings that serve food. So it's not really all public buildings, but just places that serve food.

Actually it includes all public buildings except bars that have less then 10% of their sales being food. Even office buildings are now no smoking as per the new law, not just places that serve food. Even private workplaces have to be smoke free by law.

Uncle Walt was a smoker like most of his generation. Sadly he died of lung cancer, but I doubt he would be for a complete ban of smoking. In his day they were called "coffin nails." The average man in 1901 lived to be 45. Uncle Walt lived to 65. WWWD? Being a Sagittarius Uncle Walt would do his own thing then and now. Cigs were sold in DL from Day 1 and WDW too until the PC people took over. There are a lot of worse things in this world than smoking. How about a ban on bigotry, prejudice, hate, war, etc. We're all going to die folks whether we like to think about it or not. No one has ever escaped death. I'll drink to that!!!

Hey, Disney has basically forbidden bubble gum in the Orlando area so that there isn't gum stuck to anything in the parks since they don't sell it anywhere on property or at the Orlando International Airport...they can do anything ;)

Amen!! This seems to be increasing and the CM's tend to ignore it. Not only do I hate being exposed to smoke clouds, this also dirties the parks because cig butts are in the landscaping(yuck!!) If smokers stay in the designated areas and dispose of their butts in ashtrays I have no problem what so ever.

The state of New York banned smoking in any place where a person is employed one year and 5 day sago, and since then, hospital visits have declined, underage smoking has declined, and restaurant revenue has actually increased, so ban smoking all over the resort, except in designated guestrooms!

I had a hard time voting, but overall I chose "yes" to ban it altogether. The reason being that while in Disney last week smokers were NOT staying in the designated areas. I had smoke blown in mine and my kids faces several times, mostly by rude teenagers who thought they looked cool with those nasty things in their mouths. If cigarettes weren't allowed, then when security did the bag search they could prevent any from being brought into the park, therefore eliminating the second hand smoke from public air altogether.

But then when I think of that, it's kind of a selfish request because that means I expect people to walk all the way out of the park and out to their cars several times a day just because they have an addiction. I get cravings for soda all the time and I'd be irritated if soda wasn't allowed in the parks.

So I guess the designated smoking areas are a good compromise. I just wish people would actually USE them.

Another argument of mine for the smoking ban is that several times during my vacation I wanted to go to particular spots to take pictures or whatever and when I got there and started coughing from all the smoke I realized my photo spot was actually a smoking area. So that was kind of annoying.

I guess ideally I wish they would have the designated smoking areas be away from the public altogether, in spots where a non smoker would have no interest in going.

I didn't think about that. That is a good point!
