College Program = Career Opportunities? (Please answer Candidly!!!)

Hey guys,

Well it looks like I'm close to certain that I will be applying for the WDW College Program for the spring semester. I've asked questions before, I've done the research, I know the hard work it entails, all I have left to do is figure out how much credit I can get from my school ... those really aren't the questions I'm asking this time around ...

What I am asking for is for college program members to come forward and speak honestly about how much this program helped them ... I'd love to just apply for a professional internship with WDW but most of them seem to require the College Program as a pre-req.

I know this program gets some criticism for how it treats the interns in terms of pay and work and whatnot ... but is it worth it?? Did you guys find it really helped when searching for other jobs in TWDC? If you went beyond Disney in your career searches, did having the Disney name on your resume really help?

Please give me honest opinions! I really want to do this (I think :) ), but I don't want to take a whole semester away from my college life if it isn't worth it in terms of pursuing future jobs with TWDC. Thanks!! :D

Hey Dave,

Yea -- I did the college program during the Spring and Summer of 2006 and had the best time of my life.

True, the college program pay is a bit low and at the end of the week the 40 hours you work equal out to about.... around $150... but you can get by on that.

The college program for myself wasn't about making money, it was about living out my dream of finally having the chance to work at Walt Disney World. I'd worked for Disney in the past through the Disney Store but still longed to work at the parks. I was first placed in a merchandise role in Magic Kingdom at the Emporium and then later transferred out and joined the Walt Disney Entertainment department.

I liked the program so much that I'm actually heading back down there in 5 days to do another one where I'll be an operations host in Adventureland.

As to answer your question about having Disney on your resume... it's about one of the greatest things you can have on there. Even the most sought after jobs will say "So tell me about your experiance at Disney".

I really can't say enough great things about the program. It changed me forever -- making me more independent and more happy with myself overall. I've got great friends now all over the world and have had the experiance to network with great leaders all throughout the resort.

I'd definately give it a shot.

Oh and yea... for most of the PI's... it is a pre-req.

Thanks for your response, and good luck with your interview!

I'm pretty sure I'll be going down there in the Spring, it's just a matter of how much credit my school's gonna give me at this point.

I've done the CP 3 times (currently on my third) and plan to either do a 4th or do a PI before going FT at Disney. I think the CP is a great experience, and very helpful.

I'm going to be applying for spring semester as well, and I'm having the same reservations as you...

Maybe I'll see you there!

Thanks, let me know what decision you make!

Thank you for your input, I'm def. leaning more towards doing it. Just a matter of that college credit.

I have a ??? about this. I'm starting my first semester in a few weeks and I really want to do the WDWCP in the Spring, is this possible? (Please say yes! lol)

Yes, that is possible. I did my first CP after my first semester, back in Spring 2005 (Jan to Aug).

Hey just wanted to let you know (just posted this somewhere else on the blogs) but it is also possible to get your credits accepted somewhere else (in my case UNCG) and then transfer those credits to your school of choice (waketech community college for me) I am also checking with my advisor to see any other ways that would make the process easier. I applied and was interviewed over the past two days so now starts the 3 week countdown to see if I get in....good luck to you!
