Classic Underrated Attraction!!!

OMG what is wrong with you??? :ROFLOL:

I love Ellen! She is a very happy and positive person. Have you seen her dance?!? Just to watch her having a good time and being silly - we need more people like her in the world! She embodies Fun to be Free in almost everything she does.

I'm with Matty... not a fan of Ellen.

Great one liners and I agree with the "Stupid ..." comment. Everything at our house is "stupid...something". Even if you don't like Ellen and think the attraction is outdated, etc. you can't argue with the reprieve you get from the hot and humid Florida weather. We vacation during the July/August months. UoE can really be an energizer for the body out of the sun and heat. When my son (now 21) was young, it was a great place for him to take a much needed nap.

I like it better then Mission Space. (I will never go on that ride again). As with everything in Epcot, when it read Epcot Center, all the rides were better save the music version (Jeremy Irons) of Space Ship Earth. BTW: Does anyone know when they started to love Epcot. I remember in 1981, when I went to the preview center on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, I thought that I had to visit this place. Then when I went in 1983, it became my favorite park and I have never looked back. I remember seeing the Monorail pylons in place from MK to Epcot in 1981 but no track. That was all very intriguing to me.

Also not a fan of Ellen, at all.

That said, UoE was my favorite attraction when I was younger. It had dinosaurs! So I still love it just for the nostalgia of the ride. Its not that bad, but those movies can put you to sleep sometimes. The Dinosaur AA scenes are wonderfully done.

After the dinosaurs it starts going down hill i think...

And why don't they tell you the cars are run by the solar panels on top of the building? i think thats the most interesting part.

i havent been on this ride in years mostly because i dont ever feel like waiting for it to start. i actually like the ride, it just always seems to be a 40 minute wait for the next ride to start

Yes its air conditioned very well and out of the summer heat, but the seats are not comfortable at all. Something about that hard plastic, just does wonders for my back...:lookaroun

I absolutely love UoE (in its present form) and I love Ellen - I think she brings a wonderful silliness to the ride.

But I will never, ever get the old Energy song out of my head.

ENERGY YOU ARE PROFOUND.....

:confused::confused::confused:

:lol::lol::lol:

You make the world go round and round...

:)Sorry. I could not resist.

Thanks. Now I have the song stuck in MY head! :lol:

But seriously, I like the ride. To me its a good example of what Epcot should be. Is is cheesy in some parts? Sure, but its fun while still being educational.

My only thing is that it needs to be updated. When ever you are dealing with science and evolving technologies you will have to update constantly.

I thought it was cool, especially when you go through the dinosaur area. However, it could use more information on renewable energy and it seemed like it was really dumbed down, but maybe its just because I'm an engineer. :hammer:

I've always been fascinated by the mechanics of the ride.

And let me also offer my thanks to you clowns who made me think of the Energy song. :fork:

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Is it old? Yes. Could it use one really awesome refurbishment? Yes. Is it high on the priority list? NO.
It's not my favorite attraction, but I rarely get to go to WDW, so I go on it every time. I have to admit, though, the actual ride part is classic, not to mention I'm pretty sure there's no other ride like that in the world.

Though as for Ellen and Bill Nye... I guess we could say that there's no CHEMISTRY there, huh? Yeah? See what I did there?
Gee I'm witty.

What percentage of solar power does it run on? 10%?

From the Imagineering Field Guide to Epcot at Walt Disney World:
"The large theater cars that guests travel in to experience the attraction are mostly powered by electricity. However, the roof of the building is covered with two acres of photovoltaic cells, providing 15% of the power needed to run the ride. There are 80,000 cells, producing a peak output of about 70,000 watts of direct current, which is then converted into alternating current for use inside. The building is placed within the park so that the solar cells get optimal exposure to the sun, which also leads to the wedge shaped profile of the roof, so that the collectors are angled even more directly with it."

I'm curious to know what % they provide now, after all theses years.

I love Universe of Energy in that sort of hokey I love Carousel of Progress sort of way. You know the technology is past it's prime, you know the "future" is 10 years ago, but there's these classic lines and music and stuff that makes you smile.
I love Ellen. I love Bill Nye. I love the smell of sulfur. I love that Imagineering had the idea to make the theater move when they did... but you know, after riding Mission: Space and Everest and Soarin' and all this new stuff it does just seem sort of ho hum to me. It's comforting, but not as exciting as it once was.
Let's see something new happen with this. Don't change the preshow. It's my favorite part of the whole darn thing! Maybe add an expo area with hands on energy "experiments". Maybe race the cars using an energy choice the audience agreed on (what do you think guys, should we pedal, use standard electricity, or use solar/wind power?). I don't know. Just something needs to happen.
