Was Kurt Russel in that one?

Yes, his 2nd Disney film (or 3rd I forget if Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit was released before it in 1968). It's also where he first em Goldie Hawn.

The Incredible Mr. Limpet.

That's not a Disney film, but it's fun.

I remember it came on AFTER the feature and was several minutes long. It was the same promo after every movie, and it was hawking basically all the live-action, and a few animated, features out on video at the time. I remember a few details, like the "Condorman" theme and the Headless Horseman throwing his head at the camera. I'd love to see that again.

I've seen it on youtube. Search "Walt Disney Video Promo" or something like that. It's cool and very Disney-E.

Not extremely old but I favorite for me as a kid (I'm only 23) was Shipwrecked.

I don't know if it was a Disney made movie or not, but I can remember a movie shown on the Disney Channel in the early 90s about a black lady that starts a school for mentally challenged children in her attic. Anyone else remember this movie? I remember being very extremely touched by it as a child

And that car splitting in two!

If you have any luck, let us know.

I haven't been able to track it down on Youtube, but it sounds like this holy grail of promos is hiding out there, so I'll keep up the quest.

SUCCESS!!!!

Thanks for the inspiration, Animaniacs!

I knew it was there.

This to me is what Disney is. Not this Hanna Bannana, Jonas Brothers High School Crapsicle nonsense that is degrading to children's intelligence (never mind the parents, they don't like Disney right?). The old Disney had real morals, excitment/scares, wonder, whimsy, wit and imagination that was appealing to children on one level and adults on another (the best Disney is the stuff that adults enjoy more tha the kids). They stand the test of time and don't reek of marketing goo that Disney has plastered itself and servierly tarnsihed it's image with. Iger may not give a hoot for the cmopany's past but he could learn a thing or two from it and not approve of wonderfuld ecisons like making Disney Channel only sutiable for girls ages 8-14.

A poster from michechat said that the Jonas Brothers were a gift from man kind because they don't harm thier children. That broad really needs to see this promo and get in tough with what Disney was/is and always should be. Even the Mickey Mouse Club series were more relaitic and appelaing in thier depiction of children and how they should solve thier porblems (hell, Laura in the Annette seriel was quite the b**** and attention w****!). I feel sorry for the kids today who are beign raised in such a shamlessly sheltered way. [/rant over]

Edit, these are also awesome:

The Three Lives of Thomasina
The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh
Swamp Fox
Elfego Baca
Zorro
Annette/Hardy Boys/Spin and Marty
The "Man in Space" series on Disneyland
The Incredible Journey
Grefriyers Bobby (sp? I haven't seen it in a while actually

A favorite at our house was Snowball Express.

I agree that the current offerings are a load of cr*p. At one time, Disney produced things that were really pretty timeless in their appeal. These days, it seems like a fad mentality has taken over. It's all about a quick buck. Forget quality--just make me some money NOW.
If you can deliver a product like Pooh, that keeps drawing people year after year, it HAS to have a better ROI than putting money into HSM junk that will be "worn out" by the next year. Not to mention the reputation your company builds by producing one or the other...
Disney should be setting the standard for family entertainment, and they are instead lowering their standards to become "Nickelodeon 2".

I LOVE the old Disney movies. I always make my list when we head down in March and we always stop at the Virgin Record Store so I can stock up. Guess I'm going to have to start buying them online now. Though I've about got all my favorites bought. Blackbeard, The Ugly Dauchsand (sp), Gus, and The North Avenue Irregulars are my absolute favs!!!

I recently found The Apple Dumpling gang on VHS at Goodwill. :) Not DVD quality, but still a fun find.

The special edition DVD or two pack with the sequel is one of the rare live-action titles to get decent treatment on DVD. It's got lots of bonuses and a good transfer. I'm too lazy right now to bu it but from what I hear it's a good set. (though not as good as the 2-disc Vault Disney ones)

BTW in case anyone cares the single disc special editions for the two Witch Mountain films will be re-released in march with new trivia-track viewing options for each on top of the previously included bonus content.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks was just on TCM or AMC(I forget which) yesterday, as a matter of fact, so it is hardly forgotten!! And 20,000 Leagues was given the Special Edition DVD treatment a few years back, as well as a few remakes(Well, not so much as Disney remakes as Jules Verne re-interpretations, which were nowhere near as good as Kirk Douglas jamming with a seal!!)...

20K has been on TCM a lot lately, too. B&B was on just a few nights ago.

I enjoy the Golden Age classics better than the Renaissance ones because they seem less heavy-handed. TLM, BatB, Aladdin, and TLK are good movies, but the music and storylines are a bit too over-the-top for casual viewing.

Jim Dale is brilliant. And Pete's Dragon was his most amazing performance.

I STILL laugh at every scene of his in that movie.

He is awesome! I watched Pushing Daisies for awhile just to hear his voice. I guess I'll have to stick with HP on cd.

can't believe I forgot about the Gnome Mobile!

I definitely love love love Mary Poppins. I could probably recite that movie. Now I just need to see it on Broadway...somehow! Oh and Bednobs and Broomsticks is always great.

Is the Parent Trap on DVD? I must find it.

Yes it is. A 2-disc set, with disc 1 having the 1961 film and the Disney Channel sequel and disc 2 having bonuses for the original.

Glad to see all the Bedknobs love! it's my favorite Disney film (or at least the 139 min expanded version is) and I hope the new DVD coming later this year will be good (same for Pete's Dragon and Hocus Pocus).

I don't know if you know this, but a British Bank is run with precision...

:)

I just love that song because I (as an American, I suppose) feel like it personifies the perfecty, properly, British guy that the dad is.
