Darby O'gill and the Little People, etc.:)

This would have to be changed to Darby O'Gill and the Vertically Challenged.

What about Song of the South, that keep that one under wraps!!!

Zip a Dee Do Dah, Zip a Dee Ay, this movie you can't get in the USA

In Search Of The Castaways!

I have been slowly but surely collecting every Disney movie ever made, and I recently picked up this old, CLASSIC Disney movie from Best Buy, and it was even better than I remembered.

I was raised on new age Disney (TLM, BatB, etc), but my family made sure that I had a healthy dose of CLASSIC Disney movie too (Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Sword In The Stone, etc).

And one thing they really made sure I got exposure to was those GREAT classic live action movies that Disney used to make.

In Search Of The Castaways, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon, Swiss Family Robinson, 20000 Leagues Under The Sea, etc.

Anyone else here remember those classics? VERY few of my friends have even heard of these movies. I had (and still have) such a love of those wonderful old live action movies. They are brilliant.

My dad recorded both Swiss Family Robinson and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for me when I was a kid. I watched them until they wouldn't play any more(Ahhh good old VHS). I really wish I had them on DVD.

The Davy Crockett movie and series were others that I played over and over!!

Have you checked at Walmart for Swiss Family Robinson? We have it here at our local Walmart. I keep wondering whether or not I should buy it.

Yes you should, it's one of only two Vault Disney sets to still be in print (along with Pollyanna) and that line put most others by Disney to shame.

Does anyone remember Child of Glass? This wasn't a theatre movie, but one that was shown on one of the WW of Disney shows. It was about a family moving into an old antebellum home that was haunted by a little girl. I got a copy on VHS many years ago.

There were some great movies on that series too (Wonderful World of Disney).

And before that... Walt Disney's Wonderful World Of Color.

"The world is a carousel of color, wonderful, wonderful color.
The world is a carousel of color, history, comedy, fantasy,
There's drama and mirth, there's old Mother Earth
With all of her secrets to see."

How about the one with Brian Kieth (I think) where he was trying to protect the geese from the hunters, I think it was called the Calaways? That was a good one.

I don't know if you know this, but a British Bank is run with precision...

:)

I just love that song because I (as an American, I suppose) feel like it personifies the perfecty, properly, British guy that the dad is.

lol agreed!

I remember when my dad first told me the old man was played by ________ Van . I thought he was messing with me for the longest time until I finally watched the credits all the way through and saw his named being unscrambled in the end! What a performance :sohappy:

Those Calaways was the title. Yet to see it, but hear it is good.

Can't mention Child of Glass without thinking of Mr. Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy. All three have sold like crazy thanks to bootleg copies online. Yet Disney still won't release them. Guess they figure the tweens won't like them.

I saw one not too long ago that I had never heard of until I saw it listed on the on screen TV guide. It was called "The World's Greatest Athlete". It had the guy that played the father on "Good Times" and Tim Conway. They had a sucky track team and they went to Africa and performed some scam to get this guy to come back with them to America and join the track team so he could make them a winning team. Anyone seen that one?

What was the one with the field goal kicking mule?

I remember watching it with my class a few years ago and they laughed like loons when one of the bad guys fell in a lobster tank.

I have been trying to remember those lyrics. I couldn't remember carousel. I was thinking of all sorts of other words.

Thank you, thank you Doug. From one "oldie" to another.
