Classic Attractions

Alice in Wonderland is still an attraction in Fantasyland at Disneyland in California and is Mr. Toad. I don't remember Alice at the MK in Florida. As far as classics I miss, hands down Horizons and World of Motion. I love Test Track. I just wish they didn't have to take away old attractions to create the new ones. As I get claustrophic, I'm not a big fan of M:S, tried it, OK, not gonna do it again. I'm not against progress by any means, just wish they could leave the old ones and still make new ones.

I REALLY miss Mr. Toads Wild Ride!!! That one was my favorite! I was so psyched when I went to Disneyland last summer and to my surprise...there it was!! I miss the original Tiki Room and that one was still at Disneyland too...

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was another favorite that just up and disappeared on me. I went to Disney every year from 1978 to 1989 as a kid from Buffalo. THen we went to Bermuda for a few years and by the time I got back to WDW, it was gone!!! That one hurt...

Maybe most of all, I miss the original Main Street USA, before everything was turned into a store. I miss the movie theatre and the Walt Disney Tribute. The Firehouse was a favorite as a kid.

Great now I'm depressed...:(

The Timekeeper and Alien Encounter - When Tommorowland was simply amazing but now its full of rides they didn't know where to place. ie.stitch and Monsters Inc.

I used to spend hours in tommorowland but I can't even say its my favourite land

I really miss those too and the original Figment. The Figment was my absolute favorite growing up. I remember the Figment shirt I got when I was like 6 (1982), I wore it all the time. I know I have a picture of it somewhere. I'll try to find it and post it. It sure brings back memories.

I am watching a home video from '91 at the moment and I just watched horizons cause my dad video taped the whole thing. I do miss it!! I remember most of it cause it closed in 1999. Also I really really really miss the alice in wonderland ride at magic kingdom. It use to be one of my favorites:sohappy:

When did the Alice in Wonderland ride close? I can't remember this ride at all.. I love the show, and probably would have equally enjoyed the ride.

I vote for:
1. Alien Encounter
2. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
3. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (even though I like Winnie the Pooh)
4. Most of the original shops on Mainstreet

I am sure that there are plenty of others that I am not thinking of at this time. Progress & trying to reach the younger generation will lead to the closing of older attractions to make way for the new attractions...

I would have to vote for the Original Journey into Imagination. Just the memories of my lil brother taking his first trip into Imagilation :ROFLOL:
I really miss Mr. Toad, and 20,000 leagues, I remember the first time I rode it, when the squid grabbed the sub, I jumped and hit my head....ahhhh good times.

It definitely wasn't one of my favorites, but the Hunchback show at MGM. I would love to see that again, and Food Rocks too. Soarin's a delightful replacement IMO.

I don't know that this is not a classic attraction by any means, but I really miss Superstar Television. It embodied what I thought MGM Studios were originally supposed to be about. It also had great repeat viewing value, because each time you went, you had a slightly different show since it was so heavily reliant on audience participation. The fact that the theater just sits empty now makes it even more depressing.

Heh, I got to be "Al" on the Home Improvement section. I was there with my first wife, who thought I was too eager to be a ham (probably one of the reasons we're not together anymore...oh, and she's evil. Anywhoo...). She hated if people paid attention to me - whether I was trying to do standup, or in a local play or asked to give a speech or whatever, if I were the center of attention, she hated it. So she made me promise, SWEAR, that I wouldn't volunteer for anything in Superstar Television. In the interest of keeping the peace, I agreed, and IMMEDIATELY, the pre-show warmup CM points at me and says "Sir, would you mind helping me out for a sec?" Well, hey, I didn't VOLUNTEER to do anything, I was asked! Recruited, if you will. He asked me to announce somthing in my hammiest announcer voice, which I did, and then he asked me if I'd be willing to help out in the main room. Well, again, I didn't ASK to be in the show. Didn't put my hand up going 'PICK ME! PICK ME! MISTUH KOTTUH!" I was asked. And since my momma raised me to be polite, I agreed. I wasn't a big Home Improvement fan (and don't think I make a believable handyman in any circimstances, I can cut myself on the instruction manual for a hammer), but apparently I made a pretty good Al. People came up after to tell me I was good and some people insisted I was a "plant," a CM there to help the show look good in case other vilunteers turn out to be stiffs. Aaaaaand then my ex & I fought over how I somehow surreptitiously without-my-knowledge let the CM know I want to be involved in the show. The one thing I volunteered was that, the possibility that she had been practically shouting "DON'T ask to be in the show" may have been a giveaway that I wouldn't mind assisting, but I'm no sleuth or anything. :D

So yeah, THAT'S a show I miss, too, though in a way, it might be harder to do now. You'd want to keep updating the show with some newer, fresher shows (with all the new shows and shows in syndication, we have whole generations who've never seen Home Improvement or Cheers, let alone classics like I Love Lucy, they wouldn't get the references in the scenes and possibly wouldn't enjoy themselves as much), and getting the rights to anything but Disney -produced shows would probably be difficult. Though there must be plenty of Disney-produced shows that would make that fun. Heck, I'd like to be on the island on Lost, making sure Kate knew what a load Sawyer was...what? Coming, honey!

Man, you guys always get me in trouble. :lookaroun

Oh, and put me down for missing the Skyway, and the original AE as well.

I totally forgot about the Kitchen Cabaret!!! I still sing those songs and even tell the corny jokes (and yes they are corny). I also miss the orginal Tiki Room. It's just not the same, now that it's under new management. The old one is classic. I am thankful that at least DL has that version!
I too miss The Main Street Electrical Parade. I can still picture my dad dancing down main street to the music....Oh, yes he was grooving away and many times others would start to dance in their spots! haha! I wish I had a camera for that moment!

I miss Horizons for certain. Brings me back to my senior trip in HighSchool. There must have been 20 of us riding it over and over. Some of my most wonderful Disney memories are from that trip.

I so agree with you! I remember going to that one time when I was quite young, and my Dad was on the Johnny Carson (I believe...) part, and I thought it was just the greatest thing ever! :) Completely agree when you say that it embodied what MGM was originally supposed to be about.

Other than that...as much as I was absoloutely terrified of it when I was younger, I do miss Alien Encounter. Going back NOW and recently, I would absoloutely have liked it a lot more than being a 7 or 8 year old dragged on and terrified! :dazzle:
