As Expedition 7 comes to close today, let's take one last look back at Expedition 6 and officially declare the winner
It was very close since both teams excelled in different ways. Team Boats absolutely nailed the presentation and plusses, but Team Birds absolutely nailed the actual festival. After going back and forth a lot, OB and I decided to give the victory to Team Birds and the Festival of Stories!

Let's take a little rest
--What you need to know--
The Tangled Restrooms are more than just bathrooms, a photo-op, and a meme. In between them and the nearby Colombia Harbor House restaurant is small sitting area. It isn't much and is probably overlooked by most, but it has some nice shade provided by the trees. There's spots to charge your phone while you sit and unwind a bit. Despite the crowded area, it feels set apart. There's hidden "Pascals" (Rapunzel's chameleon friend) to find scattered about. A simple fun activity for kids to do while parents rest. It is a perfect example of what Disney sometimes refers to as a "D-Zone"
A "D-Zone" is a Disney-fied way of saying "De-Stress Zone" or "De-Compress Zone." An area to relax a bit. A quiet spot for those who need it. An oasis in the middle of all the chaos that comes with theme parks. Rapunzel might be the most well known, but it is far from the only one. The sitting area between Brown Derby and the old bakery at Studios. The quiet side path between Africa and Asia in DAK. Pretty much the entirety of the new World Celebration Gardens at Epcot. There's at least a couple intentional "D-Zones" throughout every Disney Park.
While their amenities can change and some are more bare bones than others, the best of them provide not just a quiet area, but a place to sit, a bathroom nearby, a way to charge your phone, food/water closeby, and some much needed shade.

Design a "D-Zone" for the Disney Park of your choice
It is up to you to decide exactly what it will be like, but you must include at least a place to sit, a bathroom, and a snack and/or drink stand.
No Wilderness Explorer's Guide (didn't feel needed, you all presumably know what benches and bathrooms are), but if you have any questions let me know. Disney does provide a list of quiet areas on their page on "Services for Neurodivergent Guests" and while it is not exactly the same thing, there is a ton of overlap and this can help give you more examples.
There will be no Eliminations or Awards during the Rapid River, but rather at the end of the River (Expeditions 6, 7, and 8) Awards and Eliminations will be based on the River as a whole.

The Great Floam Volcano
Intro
Since the opening of Toy Story Land, complaints rolled in about the layout of the land and lack of shade, quiet spaces, and general places out of the way in those hot summer months. Through the following years, work has been done to improve some aspects of that, including adding more shade to Slinky Dog Dash’s Queue, and a seating around Roundup Rodeo BBQ, and more. While a lot of progress was made on the land since the beginning, certain aspects were still missing, allowing for a small addition to the land in a new Toy Story-themed D-Zone.
Area Description
Located behind Woody’s Roundup, near the exit of Toy Story Midway Mania, guests can find a clearing in the trees. Within this clearing, guests can find a new large sandy, and tropical hideaway has been set up (guests with a keen eye will notice this tropical location is no more than just a large sandpit that has been “remodeled” to the toys vacation destination.
Towards the back of the sandbox, a large dark floam volcano can be found protruding up into a large space, while the area in front of that focuses on the “ocean” (the water element, through the use of a splashpad). Located beside the floam volcano, the small popsicle stand can be found facing out, with the backstage area connecting to the bathrooms service road as well. The last section of the sandbox is the many seating and relaxing options for guests. Sprinkled throughout the sandbox, large lounge chairs can be found large enough for families to share 1 or 2, so that they can sit and charge their devices while the kids play in the splashpad. Large bench/ picnic tables can be found in the “shared cabanas”. The shared cabanas are all located under a large wooden structure to provide shade and a break from the hot summer days.
Sensory-Free Area
Rising high over the D-Zone is a giant Floam volcano. You remember Floam, right? Now, I know many of you may remember Floam because of how heavily it was promoted in the early 2000s, so you're likely wondering how it's supposed to fit in Toy Story Land, since it's supposed to be set in Andy's backyard. Well, as it turns out, Floam was first put on the market in 1994, just one year before the first Toy Story came to theaters, so it'd fit theming like a glove!
Anyways, this Floam volcano serves as the home of the Toy Story Land D-Zone's sensory-safe area. This is an area where people can go to get away from the hustle and bustle of Andy's backyard. Foam soundproof walls line the interior of the volcano -- hence why it's set it in the Floam volcano to begin with -- ensuring that this area is as quiet as quiet can be. Given how overstimulating theme parks can be, we want this area to be as relaxing and as calming as possible. Gentle mood lighting in hues of red and scarlet are all along the ceilings in unique shapes representing the flow of lava. In fact, giant, glittering strands of lava -- covered in real Floam microbeads -- hang along the ceiling as well, providing that extra authentic touch. Calming sounds of rumbling, steam hissing and lava gurgling play on constant loop; offering a nice, ASMR vibe to help bring on the relaxation.
The floor is nice and soft, allowing for guests to lie in comfort; although there are benches along the rim of the volcano, as well. Honestly, I've been here for soft openings, and I actually saw a few people fast asleep on the floor! Definitely a nice place for a midday nap. No more having to go to the Hall of Presidents, am I right?
Splashpad
Located in front of the Floam Volcano, guests can find a splashpad with a large, but shallow body of water for guests to walk through. In the middle of the splashpad, guests can find a retro banzai sprinkler toy, to shoot water all throughout the splashpad.
Poptinction
Nearby the Floam volcano is a small stand in the shape of a cave near its base. However, unlike the hot lava spewing from the science project, this cave is filled with cold frozen ice. It seems like so many kids, Andy didn’t quite understand that the ice age and the age of the dinosaurs weren’t ongoing at the same time, so this small cave stand is home to Poptinction, a cute little stand selling popsicles and slushes to help cool down in the hot Toy Story Land air.
The Floam ice cave blasts cool air at everyone nearby it as workers inside dig through freezers to locate different popsicles and other frozen treats that so many people have grown up with. The popsicle theme ties in with the popsicle sticks used throughout the land showing off where, perhaps, Andy got them all.
The menu is pretty limited yet nostalgic as well, featuring some treats that are returning from a long retirement. The Popsicle branded gumball eye ice creams make an appearance here in the shape of new characters including Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Bo Peep, and the little green men. Other treats include the return of the ever-popular Itzakadoozie (the original one), various fruit flavored popsicles such as grape, cherry, pineapple, blue raspberry, and orange, and ICEE slushes also with various flavors like fruit punch, cola, sour apple, and more. While most of the popsicles are sold in their packaging, ICEE buyers are given the opportunity between classic ICEE cups or a Toy Story Land souvenir cup featuring Rex and Trixie slurping ICEE slushes.
The Poptinction Stand is simple yet serves up classic and nostalgic treats from the 90s and 00s that will appeal both to those growing up in those time periods like Andy, and new visitors who get to experience it all with fresh eyes.
The Bathrooms
Beside the Great Floam Volcano, surrounded by off-brand LEGO palm trees, sit a pair of thatch-roofed huts. Or, rather, a hard plastic evocation of a pair of thatch-roofed huts in similar style to a Fisher-Price playset, melded together and accented by a pair of large hinges where their walls meet. Each hut has a wide opening, with a peeling “mens” and “womens” symbol sticker next to each. Around the side of the women's hut, a bright red plastic door leads into a smaller family bathroom.
The bathrooms are identical, aside from the obvious differences. Passing through the entrance and rounding the corner, guests will find themselves in a jungle themed bathroom. Fake bamboo accents printed sticker jungle landscapes which run the length of the back wall. The floor is covered in brown patterned tiling, broken up occasionally by toy dinosaur footprints which look to have smashed through the tiles.
The stalls are separated floor to ceiling, with doors designed similarly to the rest of the bathrooms’ bamboo accents. Small but very visible lights are hang towards the top of each stall, changing from green to red to easily tell guests if the stall is free or not. The sinks are pretty standard for a modern bathroom, featuring touchless water control and soap dispensers. A massive mirror runs the length of the sink counters. A bay of touchless hand dryers is situated next to the exit.

Come along and sing a song!
--What you need to know--
Back in the 90s, Professor Owl was in a very famous VHS Video series (well, a couple in the early 2000s, but mostly in the 90s)
The Disney Sing Along Songs series hold a special place in the hearts of many Disney fans. These were hosted mostly by Professor Owl (recently featured in the Festival of Melodies at EPCOT) but other characters take up the hosting role from time to time. Though his hosting duties mostly just amounted to singing a theme song for the sing along series at the start of the tape. After that theme song, there would be a series of sing along music videos tied together with some unifying theme (a day at Disneyland, silly songs, beach party, etc) and sometimes a loose simple plot. While for most of the videos these songs would just be clips from movies, sometimes they would do something amazing!
Music Videos filmed inside the theme parks!!!!
Needless to say, a lot of parks fans are nostalgic for these sing along songs VHS tapes that showcased Disneyland and WDW. They were super fun for kids who got to see Mickey & Co sing cover songs and Disney music around the parks. They were great for Disney since they could subtly advertise the parks. And they were great for society since we got to see Maleficent and a group of villains (including Donald dressed as a ghost) dance around to Grim Grinning Ghosts on the front lawn of the Haunted Mansion.
Seems like a new Sing Along Songs video filmed in the parks today would be a great nostalgic throwback for Disney+. PLUS it could be good viral marketing for a recent addition to the parks

Any Disney movie, show, park, resort, attraction, etc. is available for you to use in your video including ones that YOU created earlier in this competition.

Back in the 90s, Professor Owl was in a very famous VHS Video series (well, a couple in the early 2000s, but mostly in the 90s)
The Disney Sing Along Songs series hold a special place in the hearts of many Disney fans. These were hosted mostly by Professor Owl (recently featured in the Festival of Melodies at EPCOT) but other characters take up the hosting role from time to time. Though his hosting duties mostly just amounted to singing a theme song for the sing along series at the start of the tape. After that theme song, there would be a series of sing along music videos tied together with some unifying theme (a day at Disneyland, silly songs, beach party, etc) and sometimes a loose simple plot. While for most of the videos these songs would just be clips from movies, sometimes they would do something amazing!

Needless to say, a lot of parks fans are nostalgic for these sing along songs VHS tapes that showcased Disneyland and WDW. They were super fun for kids who got to see Mickey & Co sing cover songs and Disney music around the parks. They were great for Disney since they could subtly advertise the parks. And they were great for society since we got to see Maleficent and a group of villains (including Donald dressed as a ghost) dance around to Grim Grinning Ghosts on the front lawn of the Haunted Mansion.
Seems like a new Sing Along Songs video filmed in the parks today would be a great nostalgic throwback for Disney+. PLUS it could be good viral marketing for a recent addition to the parks

No Wilderness Explorer's Guide, but here is a great write up on the Disneyland Fun VHS. And the Wikipedia page is surprisingly thorough.
There will be no Eliminations or Awards during the Rapid River, but rather at the end of the River (Expeditions 6, 7, and 8) Awards and Eliminations will be based on the River as a whole.

I'm kind of sad that the “Musical Expedition“ has nothing to do with MUSICAL THEATER! It might be due to the fact that I listen to Wicked too much as of now to the point where my brother knows exactly what song I'm listening to because I’m blaring it from my AirPods!

We’ve definitely done them in the past. They’re a ton of fun, but I’d definitely prefer more than four days to make a musical.

So, the plan was for this to be musical related since i always really enjoy musical prompts. Possibly with the Theater in the Wild (where Nemo is) at DAK or possibly as a dinner theater. But I couldn't think of a good twist on it to make it different from past musical prompts. And, like Jokers said, it felt like a bit much for a short round. Which is why this changed to "The Sing Along Adventure" but the title maker ive been using said that was too long so I just kept the "Musical Adventure" name lol

Apologies for how long the Expedition 7 reviews have taken. I know they don't impact much until the whole river ends, but I still had hoped to have them up sooner. Wound up being a more tiring week at work than expected. BUT I'm hoping to get them up tonight, tomorrow at the latest. And I have Wednesday free so reviews for Expedition 8 should be pretty prompt. With results for the river as a whole, eliminations, rewards, and all that jazz revealed live on the podcast Wednesday night (I belive 9 EST is the plan) and posted here right after

- First Impression
- I do remember Floam!
- Toy Story Land is a great pick for a D Zone as it DESPERATELY needs something like this. An area to relax, escape the heat, avoid the noise, let kids play. It's great! And while it might be a bit busy for a small space (beach plus sprinklers plus ice cave plus volcano plus dinosaurs but only kind of), "busy" works well for Toy Story. I have some concerns about the sand (coarse, rough, gets everywhere, etc, etc) and maybe scaling back very very slightly would've been better, but overall I really enjoy this and it is exactly what Toy Story Land needs!
- One nitpick worth mentioning, but I won't hold it against you because I blame IRL DHS for confusing branding. You say "Located behind Woody’s Roundup, near the exit of Toy Story Midway Mania" but Toy Story Mania is near Galaxy's Edge (I believe iirc this is the intended area) where there are already bathrooms that this would presumably replace. Woody's Roundup Rodeo Barbecue is located near the main entrance by the giant Woody. Woody's Lunchbox is found in between the IRL main bathrooms and the Toy Story Mania Exit. Again, I blame DHS for how needlessly weird and confusing their naming schemes are for this land and I'm assuming the intention is to replace the current restrooms. A small note about that, if I'm right that it is the plan, would've been nice. But not a big deal and really just a nitpick like I said
- Presentation
- Perfect use of a forum post. Adding some more visuals and some different colors in the text helps it feel more dynamic and easier to follow. This is a great scale of project for a forum post. Love the art by @MonorailRed as always. Breathes a lot of life and vibrancy into the project and perfectly demonstrates the vibe. The map by @AceAstro too, very simple but simple is exactly what this needed. Good compliment to Red's concept art having this as a very clear and readable site plan.
- I think moving the splashpad to either before the Floamcano or after Poptinction would've flowed better. The Volcano and the ice cave feel closely linked thematically (and are next to each other on the map) so I think they would've worked better together. BUT the splash pad is just a short bonus so this isn't a big deal.
- Team Dynamic
- Again, ya'll work in sync together very well. I believe Toy Story Land was pitched within 10 minutes of the prompt being posted and the team used their talents to "Yes, and" it together very quickly and smoothly. Great job by @JokersWild as Skipper, though with this team dynamic being what it is and the short nature of these rounds it seems like not much was needed to keep everyone on track lol
- Area Description - @AceAstro
- The tropical vibe is fantastic and a really fun vibe to bring to this section of the park. The sandbox idea is such a great theme and it really does feel like a perfect evolution to Andy's Backyard! I have some concerns about it being sandy though. On one hand, the "beach vibes" is perfect for a D-Zone and relaxing lounge chairs giving parents a chance to sun bathe in the middle of DHS is such a fun idea and feels so magical, unique, and clever. (Plus, SAVII players might remember that I'm a fan of adding a beach to DHS). On the other hand, I can think of few things worse than walking around all day at DHS with sand in my shoes. I think thematically and visually it works incredibly well! But the second I start trying to picture it practically I just see kids covered head to toe in sand after playing in the D Zone tracking that throughout the park on every ride. BUT again I can't call it a complete negative, but it really does fit the theme/visuals so incredibly well
- The layout is great though. Its compact, but doesn't feel cramped. It has a nice "seperated" feeling without feeling entirely removed. Its fun yet relaxing. Big yet not overwhelming. Love it!
- Sensory-Free Area / Floamcano - @DisneyManOne
- A more specific area dedicated to decompression, cooling down, and being sensory safe is very nice. Would be a big win as a part of the Inclusion Key for neurodivergent guests as well as just a nice addition to DHS. There's a few places in the park that can serve this function (One Man's Dream and Muppet*vison being 2 personal favorites), but nothing really in Toy Story Land or Galaxy's Edge where it is needed most. TSL doesn't even have shops or an indoor quick service to cool off in. Little touches like the textured walls and the atmospheric soundtrack are great. It's so relaxing that I don't see it as a stretch at all to imagine guests napping in here lol
- Splashpad - @MonorailRed @AceAstro
- Short sweet and to the point. TSL could use a space for kids to actually play. the giant version of a retro sprinkler toy is super fun. I'm happy ya'll didn't overthink or overexplain this. Sometimes it is tempting to give everything a backstory or a crazy amount of detail or try to make every entry be the E-Ticket of the project. A nice, simple splash pad is all this needed to be. And a picture plus 2 sentences was plenty to communicate what it was
- Poptinction - @PerGron
- Love anything ice themed! This is very fun and cute. I have a bit of trouble picturing it though. Is this cave part of the Floamcano? Because that would make sense but the map has it separate and that does raise the question of why this is ice if it is part of a volcano. Is this its own structure? If so I'm having trouble picturing what a freestanding "small cave shaped stand" would look like.
- That being said, ice caves are cool and fits the loose dino connection the team set up even if it clashes a bit with the tropical vibe (a blizzard? On a beach? a bsurd! ).
- The real stand out here that more than makes up for nitpicky stuff like that is the treats! The nostalgic gumball eye character pops and the icees in the souvenir cups are fantastic! Sure to be an instant fan favorite! I guarantee the ven diagram between people who remember gumball eye popcicles fondly and Disney Adults is a circle. It would've been fine to go the simple route and just do Mickey bars and the usual stuff, but your specialty treats really go above and beyond here!
- Bathrooms - @JokersWild
- Fisher Price Tropical getaway restrooms with peeling sticker decals is fantastic! And the lights to show occupied stalls is really clever. Kind of surprised Disney doesn't do anything like that (also just in general I never fail to be surprised how open and not super private stalls are at Disney restrooms with way too large of gaps between panels. That's kind of just an America as a whole thing, but with it being such an international tourist destination it seems particularly bad at Disney). Its a little touch, but shows the thought put not just into theming but also how to improve how Disney does bathrooms
- Final thoughts
- I have some mixed feelings here and there. The sand looks good, but might not be practical. The splash pad is fun and what TSL could use but doesn't fit tie into the dinosaur theme. The Ice Cave is fun and clever, but doesn't tie into the tropical vibes. But overall beyond some minor issues with bits here or there feeling out of place I really loved this and it would add so much to the land it is in!
