Cinderella Castle Suite staying open in 2009
Dec 26, 2008

Scott Powers at the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Disney has confirmed that Disney will continue to operate the suite atop Cinderella Castle at least thru 2009.

The three room suite was refurbished in 2007 as a 'Grand Prize' in the Year of a Million Dreams promotion. Lucky guests who were selected at random won a one night stay in the suite, complete with their own personal concierge (more like 'security' to make sure people didn't go wandering around the Magic Kingdom at 2am).

Disney will continue to operate the suite in 2009, and offer it as a prize for special promotions.

I kinda figured they'd do this. Something like a stay at Cinderella Castle would always sell, way too good to stop, and quite possibly way too expensive to built in the first place to just suddenly stop offering. I'm also glad that it's going to remain a Grand Prize. I had a terrible feeling that they were going to start only offering it at HUUUUUUUGEEEEE prices thus making only Bill Gates level rich people able to afford it. This gives everyone a chance at getting this suite

Does anyone know what someone will have to do to win this "prize"? Is it still going to be a random selection, or will there be some type of contests?

Needed @ mk

WDW will be headed into a rough
patch in 2009, with the economy!

They have featured the castle suite
in many TV spots. KEEP the dream
going! :D

My wish of watching illegals service the park in the wee hours of the morning from my cramped 3 bedroom castle suite may finally come true!

All sarcasm aside, I would be as giddy as a schoolgirl if I won, and I applaud disney for keeping this going.

You'll be needing x-ray vision then. The windows that do exist in the suite have very limited views of the park and they are stained glass. It's hard enough to see through them during the day.

It's value (I'm pretty sure from reading the year of a million dreams rules) is $571, not exactly reserved for bill gates only imo

I'm sure if a "Make a Wish" kid or similar asked for a night in the castle, they would make it happen...

I'm sure they would but personally, I'd rather know a special child like one of the MAW kids is staying there rather than some overly wealthy bride that thinks she's a princess. *shrug* The exclusiveness of that suite will drive the price up to ridiculous proportions (someone mentioned Bill Gates in a previous post) if it's allowed to be booked by just anyone. JMO.

On our Keys tour, we were told that the value was due to taxes you would have to pay as a result of winning.

I really think that the suite's unique value would be cheapened by making it available to the uber rich. Let it stay a prize, but also let a little bit of the magic into the hearts of the MAW and similar organizations children and their families. I have had the privilege of speaking with one of these families (just casual conversations), and I can only imagine the impact it could have on their lives!

Of course that doesn't mean they can't "revalue" it after the YOAMD contest is over...

And as another poster pointed out, the price-point was set under $600 so that winners wouldn't have to deal with tax forms when winning.
Technically, you're still supposed to claim that as income on your taxes. But under $600 it's untraceable. (And hopefully let's not get into the legality of "getting away with it")

The big-ticket prizes like cruises, vacations and the DVC memberships all included a cash portion that was approximately the amount of taxes that the winner would have to pay for that prize.

thats true:goodnevil we won a castle stay this past July, overall an amazing experience, however:veryconfuthe view is severely limited, the stained glass windows' clear panes are antique, wavy glass and very difficult to see through, you can see, its just a little blurry!:wave:but we wouldn't have traded the experience for a better view:sohappy:

Hey Disney, I am going down next week to run the marathon for my 40th birthday! A stay at the castle would really make a great B-day present! Don't ya think? Wink Wink...

yay!!! that would be sooo awesome to win that lol. But that makes sense. After they spent the money to do the refurb on it why would they close it after only a year of service???
