Cinderella Castle - can it be enlarged and expanded

Every historical WDW book and article I've read cites the 2000ft max for a structure without a flashing beacon. Maybe that rule from the 60s(?) doesn't apply anymore, but that stuff doesn't tend to change. In any case, I can't see them building it any higher unless they could somehow mask the beacon from the ground view without disguising it from planes.

I wouldn't be opposed to Disney somehow getting it declared a no fly zone. At least that would keep the Jesus planes away. But I guess there could still be a stray plane flying over illegally, making a beacon necessary.
The 200' rule is an FAA regulation. No way the mouse is getting around it. At best, they could figure out how to incorporate the light into the theme of whatever they are building.

More detail can be found here.

The castle is 189 feet tall. How much are you wanting to add to it?

If any addition would happen, making it wider around the base would make more sense than going taller.

Not going to happen though.

It already is a no fly zone and has been for a number of years and those Religious message planes are not flying over Disney property or at least not over MK. They are miles away they just look close. Next time you see it, observe how small the plane itself is to your vision. Those same messages can be seen at Universal, SeaWorld and probably downtown Orlando. The lights on the top of those heights is in the event of an off course flight, poor visibility, etc. It's a precaution. It must still apply due to the fact that even Everest was built less then 200 ft. high., but, any higher and then maintenance becomes a much more difficult situation as well.

Save for Cinderella Castle not having an attraction inside of it, I really do think we have the best designed castle in the world. It's tall, striking, but still graceful. There's real depth to it.

I love Sleeping Beauty Castle for its charm, and DLP's castle is organic and flowing, but I think WDW's takes the cake for making a visual statement.

There is a lot of nice stuff coming to Disney Shanghai but the castle is the last thing I'd want to see come to either of the stateside parks. Both the WDW and DL castles are iconic and people would lose their minds if they even considered changing them permanently.

The Tron cycle coaster, Pirates area, Tarzan show, etc, etc would be great additions but eliminating the heart of the parks would be ridiculous.

Plus if expanding it jacked with any of the gorgeous walkways on either side of the castle that lead into Fantasyland I'd riot.

For those of you wondering, the flight restriction is within 3 miles and under 3,000 feet. 3,000 feet and 3 miles aren't very large parameters for a plane. a Cessna 172 cruises at about 3,000 along with many other small private planes like that. 3 miles is really not that far away for you to be able to see skywriting., especially when they get to a high altitude. Also, if you don't like the skywriters, just look away, and please don't get offended!

Not sure if there is truth to the FAA restrictions or what not but can the castle be enlarged and expanded? Seeing the Shanghai one makes me jealous.

It looks good to me! If anything rebuild DL, that thing is tiny!

Maybe we need a bigger castle for when they turn the castle into a TV at night

Any higher and it needs a light at the top and I think they don't want that. I think it's a perfect size. Go to DL snow whites castle is like 1/2 the size.
