Last year was our first time in WDW at Christmas time. The decorations are magical, but don't just visit the parks. Each resort is decorated with decoration around the theme of the resort, and the security personnel will let you visit them as well. The weather can be warm during the day and chilling at night. Unless you have a unending craving for sugar cookie and hot chocolate I would skip MVMCP. I thought for the extra money to get just wasn't worth it. The free pictures were not the best of quality and there were piles of protein spills through out the park. I am not sure what Disney plans for it but try to visit the Magic Kingdom on December 5th

I went three years ago for xmas and new years and it was PACKED! Other then that, I loved the decorations and such and think everyone should visit at least once during that time period. Osbourne lights are not to be missed.
On a side note, I'm going this year and will be getting there Jan 6th. Does anyone know when the decorations come down? We were hoping on seeing the Osbourne lights and some decorations.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the responses folks ( and the photos lelolai ). It sounds like early December is the time to visit (which isn't a problem for me) but the wife is a teacher and my daughters will still be at school / college so it looks like we'll be visiting for around 12 days from Mid December to early January.
I'm starting to get really excited about the prospect of a Christmas at WDW :xmas:

Simply put, we don't like to go to WDW any other time than Christmas time. Its like they take the magic and turn it up a notch. If you're a Christmas person (like me!) and enjoy the holidays, there's no place better than WDW at Christmas.

I had posted earlier this month about going in september because of the lower prices and free dining deal....we had considered changing our december reservations to september to save money...but when it came down to it, I couldn't make the change. Being in WDW for Christmas is worth that much to me

keep in mind, Disney's Christmas parade is usually filmed around the first week of December...so if you want to get the chance to see yourself on tv on Christmas morning while sitting at home, these are the days to go

Good question. I'd like to know also.

I remember being there till Jan 4th, and the decorations were still up. I'm hoping to get enough people to make another trip there during the first week of Jan 2006 for my birthday (Jan 2nd), and it would be nice to know how long those decorations and holiday parades will go on.

Zz.

P.S. All this talk about Christmas as WDW has probably inspired a slew of pictures in the members photo album of christmas stuff, including mine. :)

Last year the Osborne Christmas light display was until January 2nd (dates have not been released yet for 2005). The last day for MVMCP is December 20th. Holidays around the world in EPCOT are until Decembe 30th.

Christmas In WDW is Awesome! They decorate everything, even the resorts. And everything looks so cool. If you can though, go in early Dec. or before schools start letting out. It is much less crowed. They usually leave all the decorations up until 2 weeks into Jan. and then they start coming down. The parades only stay until the Jan. 1st and then they are gone for another year.

I'd like to address the school constraint issue. We go to WDW at least every other Christmas, but we don't take our boys out of school. I have the car loaded and off we go as soon as school is out for the holiday and we drive most of the way, stop for the night, then get up early and arrive around 9:00 AM. This is usually around Dec 15 - 18. We'll stay 5-6 nights, then drive home around Dec 22 or 23, so that we are home for the holidays. The crowds are not bad at all during this mid-Dec time period and the weather is usually warm enough to swim. Hint: dress in layers. As one member mentioned, you'll start with a light jacket, peel to a t-shirt, then want the jacket again when the sun goes down. We also take convertable zip-off leg pants for this time of the year.

In addition to the decorations, Candlelight Processional, Osbourne Family Lights, and MVMCP, take some time to visit the resorts. The GF builds a gingerbread house in the lobby that is so big they use it as a booth to sell cookies, etc from. There is a smaller one at the American Adventure at Epcot. And one of the resorts (Yacht/Beach I think) does a gingerbread and spun sugar carousal.

This is my family's favorite time of the year to visit WDW and we are looking forward to our trip this Dec.

Christmas Trip 2005

We're going down Dec 8 - 13, staying at Wilderness Lodge (seemed to be the perfect atmosphere for Christmas).

It's been a couple years since I've been during an off-season, what should I expect wait-times to be like at more popular/e-ticket attractions? 20 - 30 minutes?

My daughter and I were there last year when they were filming the parade. It was fun. Alot of stop and go and repeat. Regis (sp?) was there and Raven went through her number a ton of times. We wore Christmas ears and were part of the crowd. You really never get to "see" the whole parade. so we watched it on TV when it aired. Thought I saw my arm!!!!

We love to go at Christmas also! We were there 2001, 2003 and are planning for this December. I have heard a few comments that the MVMCP isn't as good as it was. Any thoughts on whether it is worth the cost?

MVMCP is worth the cost. So much so that we decided to spring for MNSSHP on our trip next month.
It's nice to have limited crowds, special parades, special fireworks viewing (fireworks don't happen for regualr guests on those nights), snow on Main St., special characters, special photo ops, etc.
