1st time to WDW w/ my wife & kids (2 girls, 9 & 7).
Late Jan/early Feb. Staying for 6 nights.
Guessing MK will be visited most.
We like character meals & being near monorail/transportation.

If you want to walk into your resort and have your family say "this is the coolest place we've ever seen" , stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Also, the boat ride to the MK is just wonderful. I think you would have a great time.

The contemporary is in walking distance to MK and has a nice character breakfast and has the monorail in its hotel. But I am not sure where they are with construction.

The Poly is a favorite of mine too, and you have O'Hana's character breakast and the monorail right in your hotel.

1900 Park Fare is a great Character Breakfast in the GF and you can access it by the monorail system.

I don't know you or your family.

I don't know your budget.

Aside from character meals (which you can to a resort to enjoy even if you're not staying there) & monorails, I have no idea of the amenities you'd want, the aesthetics you'd prefer, etc.

I don't know if you plan to have your own transportation, which while never necessary, can be helpful for you, and helpful in determining a good place to stay, as well as whether or not you'd be able to drive yourself to other resorts to dine or shop or explore...

You really want some advice? Go to allearsnet.com & click on "Accomodations." You'll see a fact sheet and scores of photos for each resort, plus a price list (at least through the end of the year). Or, order Disney's free vacation planning video. I don't know if this trip is a surprise or not, but if it's not, maybe get the kids involved. There's a lot of fun to be had in the planning. And no one knows your family better than you (you know, I hope :D )

Happy planning.

It is a tough choice. But I would suggest the Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian (I think this is a good choice for girls especially if they are into Princesses) or the Poly. The Grand Floridian and the Poly are both located on the monorail with quick and easy access to the MK. From the Wilderness Lodge is it just a short boat ride away. All have great resturant choices. The GF offers dinner at 1900 Park Fare with Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother and the Mice. They also have a character breakfast with Alice, the Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, & Tigger. But of course, you don't have to actually stay there to eat there. We have three girls (11,3,5) and we love the GF. They all have great things to offer so I guess it depends on your personal taste.

I suggest Wilderness Lodge... I just got back from my second visit there and cannot wait to return. The little ones will love all the animals they will see, mine are in their teens and had a blast having bunnies and ducks come right up to them and eat out of their hands. They will also enjoy getting wet from the geyser that erupts on one of the wooden path bridges as well as a wonderful boatride to MK. Inside Wilderness is the Whispering Canyon Cafe and they love getting rowdy and having a good time and sure your kids will get a laugh while eating.

My favorite so far is the Beach Club and it arguably has the best pool of any WDW resort.

Truly, though, you should do what others have said and read some reviews and look at locations to see what suits your family the best. Transportation in my eyes should not be an issue because when you are staying at a WDW resort the transportation is included.

Have fun!

If all you need is a bed, a pool, and a food court........All Stars or Pop. If you want all of those things with luxary.........Poly. Good luck and have fun. Keep in mind your going to Disney, for me a carboard box would be just fine.

Oh, what a wonderful, delightful problem to have!

My suggestion is to look at the monorail resorts on the the Diney web-site and TripAdvisor.com....look at the video/pictures, especially the candid pictures....what gives you " a thrill"...which one "feels magical"?

Each resort is awesome and offers something unique and special...they are all wonderful choices, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them...so the question is what catches your eye, what theme appeals to you, what theme feels magical?

For me, whenever I look at the Poly, I feel a rush of beauty and relaxation. This would be my choice but yet they are all wonderful choices, each resort a unique experience.

Have fun with your delightful "problem"!

I prefer the Epcot resorts (especially Beach Club), but Epcot is our favorite park. It is a very quick walk to Epcot from the YC/BC/Boardwalk resorts. Your girls are at an age where they can ride the bigger rides, so you may not be spending as much time at MK as you think.

Do what Slappy said; go to www.allearsnet.com and click on accomodations. Check out all the resorts (fact sheets, photos, etc). I would think you could definitley rule some out this way and make your decision easier.

Good luck finding your perfect resort. I know you will have a blast.

Just out of curiosity, are you booking your stay based on the amount of replies the "winning" resort gets? Or is it like an essay contest, where the resort that's spoken of most eloquently gets the nod?

I'd just feel awful if someone wrote about how much they loved a particular resort, but because nobody else wrote about it, their opinion is ignored in favor of a bunch of people who just type "Oh, yeah, Resort X, definitely."

Just gleaning information.
Budget isn't a big issue for me. Tentative plans are for a deluxe resort w/o concierge service. Location is a factor. We like leaving the park and being in our room shortly after or taking a mid-day siesta.

My initial dilemma was Poly vs Wilderness Lodge. Is Poly $100/night better? Being from the upper Midwest, WL atmosphere is not as unique to us. It seems similar the Great Wolf lodges found around the US.
Is GF too "fancy"? I like wearing shorts and a t-shirt when I'm on vacation with my kids.

Hands down I would say Poly is worth the extra money. The transpertaion to and from the parks is better, and the rooms are much bigger, which makes everything more relaxing.

We stayed at WL and I loved it, my daughter who was 5 at the time said it was a "boyscout" place. She perfered the Poly with the pool and the beach.

We are staying at the GF for the first time in Oct. I'm looking forward to it. It has that extra "princess" feel to it, but it's not too dressy. Remeber... everyone is there on Disney vacations so you will see plenty of people in their park touring outfits.

It all depends on the type of resort you are looking for:

Deluxe: GF, Poly, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club
Moderate: POR, POFQ
Value: these are farther away from the MK & the monorail system
