Where we are:

Location: Pixar Place

Theme: Luxo's, an art deco, fine dining sit down restaurant.

Also, two things that will help.

1. If you haven't been in the thread in awhile please try start from where you last left off and read up to where we are. That way you'll see if anything's been mentioned yet.
2. When replying to someone's post, please quote it in your post. It make things a lot easier to follow.

Thanks!

I think that it is only fair to tell you all that I am absolutely out of commission on Sunday. It's my birthday party that day, and I'm not missing my own party. Sorry I can't be here.

Okay guys I'm heading into a meeting, but will check back on around 8 Central to send Mater our decision. Please post ideas/thoughts.

Stitchcastle has some great ideas already:

Hollywood Boulevard, - A Chinese restaurant that would pay homage to Hong Kong Disneyland as well as the movie Mulan. The entrance could be similar to the pagoda in Mulan with the talking statues of the chinese zodiac, one of them being Mushu. A great way to have a waiting area for the restaurant proper. Inside there could even be a shadow puppet theater performance, like the abandoned opening to Mulan.

Echo Lake, - 'Bay Side Movie Star's Mansion' themed to a beach side mansion that belongs to someone very famous. I don't know who yet.

Streets of America, - The Watchtower - a restaurant inside a "sky scraper" that would boast roof top views of all the major cities represented in the Streets of America by means of some fancy new projection tehcnology.

Pixar Place, - Luxo's - a fancy art deco inspired sit-down restaurant whose decorations are made up of Pixar concept art.

Sunset Boulevard. - Museum of Oddities - If Ripley's Believe It Or Not was a restaurant. Themed slightly to the Haunted Mansion.

Here's some of my ideas:

Sunset Boulevard- Hollywood Tower Hotel Terrace Restaurant

Pixar Place- Harryhousen's or Gusteau's

Muppets is on Streets of America Right? I had a really cool idea for an interactive Muppets Restaurant. Themed to the Hard Rock Cafe', Muppets Memoribilia and a Muppet themed menu would be part of the restaurant. The main dining area is themed to the Muppet Theater's backstage area (now featuring neon lights, strobe lights, etc.), where the Electric Mayhem is performing while you eat. The restaurant is called The Hard Ruck Cafe.

Echo Lake- Star Wars Cantina Restaurant or a LOST restaurant

Also for Streets of America, a Marvel restaurant.

I'm really digging the Luxo's idea, i quite like Gusteau's too.

The Muppet's idea could be an amzing opertunity to go with a simmilar concept to the new Beauty and the beast idea in MK, sort of like Rainforrest cafe crossed with a dinner show

I like both of the Streets of America ideas the best. But let's remember this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. I think stichcastle's ideas fit that well, and so does figmntal's Sunset Boulevard idea.
EDIT: I'm not actually sure what Harryhousen's or Gusteau's is. So I didn't include that, if it is upscale.

if we want upscale, the the art deco Luxo's idea would work perfectly, serve 5 star dining, possibly fusion cuisine and we have a winner I think

Actually, that and the Sky Scraper idea could work. Both are just so posh. The only real difference is that one is modern and one is old school. Love it! I can't even decide.

if we go with Luxo's each dish on the menu could be inspired by a Pixar movie. Like say a Ratatouille entree that looks exactly like the one in the Rataouille movie, a green tea ice cream concoction called a 'Wazowski', A barbeque pulled pork sandwich themed to Woody, Incredibles inspired cocktails, The 10 Pixar movies = 10 dishes.

For the Skyscraper one, i was thinking also a 50's era big band right in the middle where an actual band would play, and using the lighting and projection effects, various 'moods' can be conveyed according to the song being performed by the singer. say, when they sing 'Under the Sea' the entire restaurant turns an aqua green and bubbles are projected all over. Also, each dish could be based on the different cities repressented in the Streets of America.

The Pixar themed menu is a nice idea, I wasn't going to go in for the whole themed dishes idea, but it fits the brief nicely, if you give me a cuppla days i'd be more than happy to tke the menu writing if we go with Luxo's, everyone cool with that?

It doesn't have to be upscale. Where did it say that in the project description? It just has to be a table service.

Also, Mater said to try and stay away from restaurants on Streets of America, because there's already a ton in there.

Honestly, the two places that need a good restaurant is Sunset Boulevard and the ABC Comissary. I honestly think we should go with The Hollywood Terrace Restaurant (there's gotta be some space around ToT) or a LOST restaurant (put this in the SOunds Dangerous theater or in the ABC Comissary area). Pixar Place could use one too, and I like the Luxo's idea, I just don't see where you'd put it.

The Hollywood Tower Hotel Terrace Restaurant would be an offshoot of the attraction, and it would be sort of an upscale restaurant. We could do something where the decor changes from as it was during the 40's or whatever, then lightning will flash, and it will be how it is today. The lighting will dim, and the waiter's reactions would change to a more, zombie-esque state.

The LOST attraction could be very similar to rainforest cafe, and have a beach room, a jungle room, and a Dharma station room. Each room can have AA's of the show's characters as well.

Sounds like we should decided between Luxo's and the Watchtower. Personally, I LOVE the Luxo's idea and think the general theme being discussed would be perfect.

To get the ball rolling please let me know which of the two you're voting for and I'll PM Mater. Ideally I'd like to get the location picked by 9:30PM ET so we can maybe start dishing out ideas tonight.

Thanks

the director asked that it'd be fancy

I'll have to throw my vote to the Luxo idea as well. Normally I don't like anything to do with Pixar, but this is kind of an exception. I love the casual, yet up scale, atmosphere.

Sounds like Luxo's it is.

I'll PM Mater that we want Pixar Place.

I think this is going to be great!

Okay, so we should probably start with the basics. Where do we want to put it? I asked Mater and we can use any existing space, as long as it is not occupied. My suggestion would be to use the soundstage space next to TSMM. Thoughts?

Also, is anyone opposed to being assigned tasks? There's 8 of us, so in smaller teams of 2 we could each take on a smaller piece of the puzzle. I was thinking:

Menu Creation
Restaurant Design (Interior & Exterior)
Story Design (Theme and Land tie-in)
Visuals

Of course we all help eachother with suggestions. I just figured a little structure was better until we find our groove as a team. Let me know what you'd be interested in.
